Holiday Sports & Activity Programme

Monday 6th July – Friday 28th August New for this year! Extended summer to include weeks commencing 6th and 13th July, available subject to demand. To register your interest in these weeks, please email jason.goodall@culford.co.uk with the days you are interested in by Monday 29th June. What is the Holiday Programme? The Holiday Activity Programme provides recreational sports and activities for all children aged 5 to 14 years. The children will take part in tennis, rounders, arts & crafts and lots more. Children will have the opportunity to swim every day and all abilities will be catered for. The scheme is led by an enthusiastic team of qualified Sports Centre Staff and runs every weekday from Monday 6th July to Friday 28th August.

You can book anything from a half day to a full day or even a whole week. We allow a 30 minute drop off and pick up window: 8:30am to 9:00am and 5:00pm to 5:30pm. Session Times

What will my child need? Children will need to bring a packed lunch, whether attending a morning or afternoon session and swimming kit with them each day. Drinks and small snacks will be provided throughout the day. On hot days a hat and sunscreen are also recommended; your child must be able to apply this themselves. Children will be supervised at all times by Culford Sports and Tennis Centre Staff who are DBS checked.

The camps aim to introduce children to playing fun matches with help from coaches to explain the rules and scoring. LTA Tennis and Mini Starter Competitions Aimed at children aged 5-16 years who are keen on developing their tennis. Children are required to be able to play rallies and serve balls regularly into the appropriate service box. Starter Mini Tennis Competitions are suitable for children developing rallies and starting to serve balls into court who are new to competition. Tennis coaches will be on hand to assist throughout. All competitions are played in our championship standard Indoor Tennis Centre. Advanced booking is essential. Closing date for bookings is two days before each event. No entries on the day.

Combat Battle Survival School

For Boys & Girls aged 7-16

The Sergeant Major (Ex British Army Combat and Survival Instructor) will be running 2 separate days of army themed fun and activities. There are two action packed days: Combat Battle School on 18th August and Survival School training on 19th August. BATTLE SCHOOL DAY: The Sergeant Major will teach you all you need to know to succeed on the Battlefield, skills such as basic battle, camouflage, team work, communication and patrol drills. Then you will be launched into battle using the latest in outdoor laser gaming guns. Use all the skills and drills you have learnt to help lead your team to victory in a series of mock battles.

SURVIVAL SCHOOL DAY: The Sergeant Major will show you how to build a shelter, find water, teach you tracking skills, hunting and how to build and start a fire. Later you will utilise what you have learnt to become a master survival expert in a laser game based scenario. The day is crammed full of fun things to do in a safe and friendly environment. For Boys & Girls aged 8-16

Come and learn Archery or improve your existing skills. These sessions are taken by Sean Fox, an Archery GB (level 2) coach who has coached at international, county and club level as well as extensively in schools. These sessions will be instructive but the emphasis will also be on having fun. All equipment is provided, including different types of bow. •

For Boys and Girls aged 9-12

Delivered by Suffolk County Council Bikeability training for children is held over two days. It consists of two levels, held over four sessions, each lasting two hours. LEVEL 1 Day One: 1 x 2 hour session Held in Culford School’s private roads and playgrounds, the course will give children the necessary bike handling skills they need prior to cycling on the road. The course includes: Bike safety checks, getting on and off the bike safely, starting off and pedalling without help stopping safely, riding without wobbling, steering where the rider wants to go, using gears effectively, stopping quickly under control, steering to avoid objects, looking behind without wobbling and signalling left and right without wobbling. LEVEL 2 Day Two: 3 x 2 hour session Road skills for beginners. This training will take place on nearby roads that have been pre risk assessed allowing the children to experience and learn the manoeuvres necessary for the majority of their cycling needs. The course includes: Starting from side of the road, stopping at the side of the road, looking all around including behind, understanding road positioning and where to signal, passing a parked car or slower moving vehicles, passing side roads safely, turning left into a major road from a minor road and right from a minor road into a major road, turning left into a minor road from a major road and right from a major road into a minor road, correct and safe use of a ‘stop’ U turn, use of cycle lanes and adequate understanding of the Highway Code. Times: 4 x 2 hour sessions 10:00–12:00pm & 12:30-2:30pm both days

Culford Football Course this year will be for children of all abilities aged 8 to 16. The course has been put together and will be run by former Norwich City FC Academy Coach Ricky Cornish on behalf of Culford School. It has been created for the children’s enjoyment so that they learn in a fun, dynamic and energetic environment, testing their football abilities during the 3 days. The days will be made up of a combination of skills, techniques and games and will allow the children to express themselves.

The Culford Cricket Camp is ideal for a broad range of abilities, from school to club cricketers. Children will be grouped according to age and ability. The three day programme includes: Batting principles, specialist bowling, fielding, fitness for cricket and tactical sessions. If the children wish to use a hard ball, protective equipment such as a helmet, a box and pads are advised. Please bring a packed lunch. The programme is led by Martin Eeles who is an ECB Level 3 coach. He has worked internationally at School, Club and County level. Make a day of it across 3 days!

Learn to be a Puppeteer

For Boys & Girls aged 5-10

During these workshops, the children will be making and performing with their own puppets ranging from string and glove to rod and shadow. They will learn to make and use the different types of puppets and will put on a live performance, using Culford’s very own Studio Theatre. Leader of the sessions, Odette Tattersall, has always had a great love for puppets from her first Saturday job working for The Continental Puppet Playhouse, through to her work with The Puppet Barge in London. Children will need to be appropriately dressed for each session. Long trousers, long sleeved tops and closed shoes are required (no sandals or open toed shoes please). Please bring waterproof trousers and a coat just in case!

Children will take part in a host of activities including bug hunting, den building, natural arts and crafts, forest school games and tracking. The sessions are designed to help children to develop personal, social and technical skills in a fun way, using forest or woodland settings.

The Ann Holland School of Theatre Dance is an established school which opened in 1990 and is now based at Culford School utilising their exceptional dance and theatre facilities. The holiday camp is a three day course running 10:00am-4:00pm, offering classes in drama, singing and dance. The themes of this years dance, singing and acting workshops will be inspired by the musicals Oliver and Annie. Skills in technique, performance and musicality will be studied enabling the development of musical appreciation and confidence in this fun and energetic environment. Students will be asked to arrive at 9:45am on day 1 for registration and parents should arrive at 3:30pm on the final day for the showcase. Dates:
