Recent changes to UK immigration and European regulations on cross-border migration have resulted in a considerable increase in immigrant communities throughout the UK. Since 2004 Lincolnshire has been one of the areas most affected by an influx of populations, especially from areas of Eastern Europe including Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
Although most reports on immigration focus on economic and social impact, this project seeks to explore how immigration has influenced cultural activities for migrant communities and the local population in destination areas, and how emigration has influenced cultural activities for populations in origin areas. In particular, it explores the ways in which music is used and consumed by communities directly engaged in migration.
The IMPACT/INSIGHT/INTEGRATION Symposium brought partners together from the UK and Lithuania to discuss and explore notions of cultural impact.
