As well as the full programme of events being delivered in Derry/Londonderry, the programme also incorporates outreach events in the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh, the Alley Arts Centre in Strabane and the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny. This event is aimed at raising awareness around issues such as racism, discrimination and harassment - including racist bullying. It seeks to educate children, young people, and the wider public, to accept, value, and embrace diversity in all its forms - whether race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, the poor, migrants, minorities, those with physical disabilities - as well as encouraging awareness of local and global issues like war, human rights abuses, and the environment. The long-term objectives and outcomes of the Intercultural & Anti-Racism Programme are to promote tolerance and inclusion. The programme showcases feature films, short films and documentaries from around the world in an effort to bring different landscapes, languages, beliefs, and cultures into the classroom. The objectives of this diverse programme of educational events are to broaden childrenšs and young people’s cultural awareness, literacy skills and cine-literacy abilities. The Nerve Centre’s annual Intercultural & Anti-Racism Festival, now in its eighth consecutive year, offers primary, postprimary schools, colleges, universities, community groups, and the general public, a programme of international films, documentaries, presentations, workshops, and outreach screenings, exploring the themes and issues involved. The programme launches on March 21, the official UN International Day Against Racial Discrimination, a date chosen to mark the anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa in 1960.

This workshop will challenge pupils to explore the themes and issues involved, such as racism, prejudice, difference, acceptance, bullying, etc., by designing and printing their own special T-shirts. T-shirts will be provided for this workshop. A Fab Lab is a fully kitted, high tech fabrication laboratory in which practically anything can be designed and prototyped, using state of the art machines including a 3D printer, laser cutter, CNC router, vinyl cutter and milling machine. If schools want to stimulate creativity and spark innovation, then a visit to Fab Lab can help pupils to realise their potential and go beyond the classroom boundaries. THIS IS NOT A FILM In film nist Renowned Iranian director, Jafar Panahi (Offside, The Circle, The White Balloon) received a 6 year prison sentence and a 20 year ban from filmmaking, and talking to the foreign media, due to his open support of the opposition party in Iran’s 2009 election. This clandestine documentary was shot partially on an iPhone and a modest DV camera by Panahi’s friend Mojtaba Mirtahmasb, and smuggled out of Iran on a USB stick and hidden in a cake for a last-minute submission to Cannes. Panahi shares his day-to-day life (talking to his family and lawyer on the phone, and reflecting on the art of filmmaking) as he waits for a decision on his appeal.
