INTRODUCTION As an organization, Culture Talk represents the integrity of preserving, educating, and the honoring of a variety of cultures. The month of January (2021) marks a historical one. It has been a long, tiring journey of fighting against societal prejudices and social injustices. And still, the fight is ongoing. It isn't about winning or losing when lives and livelihoods are caught in the our

organization: the platform to share how much a community and their contributions have made parts of the world what they are today. For the month of January and February, we have decided to pay homage to members of the Black community all over the world. It is important to acknowledge that their pain and the hardships that they have endured will not be overlooked. They have consistently advocated for education, an abundance of freedoms, and voting rights for other minority communities. Their influences in music genres, food flavors, and languages have shaped the cultures that intersect with our own. Now, it is time to be responsible and informed. Taking the time to learn about the history and the Black figures who have given us these freedoms/ opportunities are only the tip of the iceberg. Ridding of the ignorance and passing our understandings on is a good start. Still, there is more work that must be done. This is only the beginning. Sincerely, The members of Culture Talk

ISSUE 06: HONORING BLACK HISTORY As a collective, we have chosen the topic of Black history for our February issue. The next issue will be the 6th one. It will cover a variety of topics from interviews to articles written by our members, and pieces of culture that are not often taught in history text books. We will also be including more resources through our Black History 360 project alongside useful ways to stay educated. It is true that the world is diverse. It is so vast. But it also remains true that certain communities often overshadowed by misinformation, political conflicts, and more. Regardless, we shouldn't let these things get in the way of staying informed. In order to combat such problems, sharing information with the people around you -- having conversations with them is the start of it. It has been a long journey of triumphs , hardships, and endless effort from the Black community. Moving into 2021, it is important to do better. It is important to recognize the meaning of privilege and how privilege can be utilized to help others. It is essential to acknowledge where our freedoms come from. It is crucial to ask: who fought for these freedoms? what if we lived in a world that is segregated by race today? from the foods we eat to the music we listen to, who created it? And these are only questions that barely skim the surface of what we should know, what we should share in our environments. There is no excuse for what in 2020. But, it means that there needs to be growth. There needs to be an improvement in how we approach topics. We must practice respect, humility, and the volume of Black voices rather than speaking over them. Therefore, we hope that you will enjoy the content we create but that you gain knowledge out of what we build. Our purpose is to design digestible but specific information regarding cultures around the world. This time, we encourage you to take the time to learn more about Black history, prominent figures, and media that is created by Black artists. We will do our best to convey the stories told by Black folks, though, it is even more inspiring to hear it from themselves.

Thank you for reading and supporting, The members of Culture Talk
