Don’t Leave Gum Disease Untreated Gum disease is a very common health problem that, for most people, is avoidable. Gum disease treatment in Toronto starts with prevention. Flossing once a day and brushing teeth twice a day, along with regular dental cleanings, will prevent the gums from getting sore, puffy, and prone to bleeding.

Gum disease can happen to anyone who does not take care of their teeth and gums properly. It is best to build healthy dental hygiene habits young, so that as adults a proper routine is established. There are several options for gum disease treatment in Toronto. Like many diseases and illnesses, it is easier to treat gum disease in its early stages. When bacterial plaque and other debris are left in your mouth, they can build up around the roots of your teeth, under the gum line. Some people have deeper pockets on their gum lines than others, however buildup can occur in any mouth. Healing and recovering from gingivitis cannot begin until the roots of your teeth are cleaned and clear of buildup. If not cleared, the sticky plaque hardens and becomes tartar, which is more difficult to remove at home and requires dental cleanings. If you think you might have gum disease, start brushing your teeth at least three times a day, for at least two minutes. Flossing once or twice a day, will help get any food or plaque off of the teeth. It is important when brushing and flossing, that the roots of the teeth, below the gum

line are also cleaned. After brushing and flossing, rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash, to kill any bacteria that can make gum disease worse. Gingivitis can be reversed with this routine, or gum disease can be avoided. For more severe cases, gum disease treatment in Toronto will include a cleaning by your dentist or periodontist. During this cleaning, they may do root planing and scaling, which removes plaque and tartar build up below your gum line. Depending on the severity of the buildup, antibiotics may be prescribed to kill the infection. If left untreated, gum disease can turn extreme, and can lead to tooth loss, problems in the jawbone, bone loss and other health problems in your body. If not dealt with quickly, this treatment can be very expensive, and your mouth can become very sore and tender due to the infection.
