WELCOME TO CELL CITY!
Our 7th graders became "cell engineers" and recreated the "Cell City" , an analogy about the cell as the basic unit of life and how a city works.
Let's imagine a bit: The nucleus of the cell represents the city government office. The mitochondrion is the powerhouse.
The Golgi apparatus is the post office that distributes available resources through the highway that is the endoplasmic reticulum. While ribosomes and lysosomes are respectively responsible for building and recycling resources.
With creativity, recycled materials, 3D printing, laser cutting, carpentry skills, modeling, creation of electrical circuits, imagination and collaborative work, they all managed to complete the representation of the cellular organelle that was assigned to them to finally integrate all the parts to create a functional city, just as the cell is shaped and works perfectly.
Finally, to anchor their knowledge, they presented their 3D model together and explained to the class the main functions of cell organelles and why they resemble the different parts of a city.
TECHNOLOGY & JOBS
Children discovered that all jobs use technology. Wearing creative costumes, children talked about what they want to be when they grow up. Some of the professions they picked up were: doctors, architect, pilots, engineers and chefs. Together they discover that computers are a must to work in every day life.
