LET US WORSHIP Third Sunday after Pentecost • June 13, 2021

THE COMMUNITY GATHERS VOLUNTARY

Come, God, Creator, Holy Spirit — Johann Sebastian Bach

GREETING INTROIT Psalm 96

All That Hath Life and Breath Praise Ye the Lord! — René Clausen All that hath life and breath praise ye the Lord, shout to the Lord, Alleluia! Praise Him, laud Him, Alleluia!

† CALL TO WORSHIP (The Book of Worship, 1965, Alt.)

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. The hour is coming, and now is, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless his name!

#88 Maker, in Whom We Live — DIADEMATA

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM

Do you as Christ's body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ? We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include Cal, now before you, in your care? With God's help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround Cal with a community of love and forgiveness, that he may grow in his service to others. We will pray for him, that he may be a true disciple who walks in the way that leads to life. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE †

Please stand as you are able.

After each prayer, the leader may conclude: Lord, in your mercy. All may respond: Hear our prayer. 3

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED SCRIPTURE Joshua 6:2-5

Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” (NIV) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT INVITATION TO OFFERING OFFERTORY

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise — Eric H. Thiman Immortal, invisible, God only wise, in light inaccessible hid from our eyes, most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might; Thy Justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. To all, life Thou givest to both great and small; in all life Thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish but nought changeth Thee. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light, Thine Angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render: O help us to see 'tis only the splendour of light hideth Thee. Amen.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Almighty God, giver of every good and perfect gift, teach us to render to you all that we have and all that we are, that we may praise you, not with our lips only, but with our whole lives, turning the duties, the sorrows, and the joys of all our days into a living sacrifice to you; through our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
