WELCOME TO WORSHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION All things come from you, O God, and with gratitude we return to you what is yours. You created all that is, and with love formed us in your image. When our love failed, your love remained steadfast. You gave your only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you. And so, in gratitude for all your gifts, we offer you ourselves, and all that we have, in union with Christ’s offering for us. By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

Please stand as you are able

PRELUDE GREETING INTROIT

CANTICLE Simple Gifts — arr. Stephen Leek It’s the gift to be simple, it’s the gift to be free, it’s the gift to come down where you ought to be, and when we find ourselves in the place just right, will be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained, to bow and to bend we shall not be ashamed to turn, turn, will be our delight, ‘til by turning, turning, we come round right.

Now I Walk in Beauty — arr. Gregg Smith Now I walk in beauty, beauty is before me, beauty is behind me, above and below me.

CALL TO WORSHIP Almighty and everlasting God: increase in us your gift of faith that, forsaking what lies behind, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SCRIPTURE — 1 Timothy 6:3-10 (pew Bible New Testament page 256) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God. SERMON — “Cultivating Contentment”

HYMN OF PROCESSION #160 Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart — MARION

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare:

We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen. GLORIA PATRI #71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

HYMN

OFFERTORY Nearer, My God, to Thee — arr. Dan Forrest Nearer, my God, to Thee; nearer to Thee, even though it be a cross that raiseth me. Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God to Thee, nearer to Thee. Oh, let the way appear, leading to heaven, all that Thou sendest me, in mercy given. Thy Spirit beckons me, nearer, my God to Thee, nearer to Thee. There in my Father’s home, safe and at rest, there in my Savior’s love, perfectly blest. Age after age to be nearer, my God to Thee, nearer to Thee. DOXOLOGY #95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
