LET US WORSHIP Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost • 11:00 am • October 18, 2020
THE COMMUNITY GATHERS VOLUNTARY GREETING INTROIT
Love Is Moving — Audrey Assad The hem of Your robe is where our healing lies. The wounds in Your hands are where our life resides. The faith in our hearts is how we welcome You. The joy in our lives is Your love breaking through. Your love is moving, moving among us.
CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 122 (In Unison)
I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem. Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. That is where the tribes go up— the tribes of the Lord— to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel. There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.

#57 O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing — AZMON (stanzas 1-5, 7)
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
After each prayer, the leader may conclude: Lord, in your mercy. All may respond: Hear our prayer.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED CANTICLE
How Great Is This Love! — Vicki Tucker Courtney O love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in thee. I give thee back the life I owe, that in thine ocean depths, it's flow may richer, fuller be. How great is this love, this love of the Father. How great is this love He has lavished on me, that we should be called the children of God, that we should be called God's children. A love beyond all understanding, a love that will not let me go, a love requiring nothing, can this love be so?
SCRIPTURE Matthew 22:34-40
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (NIV) This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

"Love Is More Than an Emotion"
WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT INVITATION TO OFFERING OFFERTORY
They'll Know We are Christians by Our Love — arr. Lloyd Larson We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord, and we pray that our unity may one day be restored, and they'll know we are Christians by our love. We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand, and together we'll spread the news that God is in our land, and they'll know we are Christians by our love. We will work with each other, we will work side by side, and we'll guard each one's dignity and save each one's pride, and they'll know we are Christians by our love. Praise to the Father from whom all things come, and praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son. Praise to the Spirit who makes us one. God's Spirit makes us one.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
All things come from you, O God, and with gratitude we return to you what is yours. You created all that is, and with love formed us in your image. When our love failed, your love remained steadfast. You gave your only Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. All that we are, and all that we have, is a trust from you. And so, in gratitude for all your gifts, we offer you ourselves, and all that we have, in union with Christ's offering for us. By your Holy Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
