PRELUDE GREETING

CALL TO WORSHIP

Listen!

The one who bore God’s heart, The one who spoke God’s peace, The one in whom God agonized is now the Risen Lord.

Death was no prison for him.

Jesus is raised and among us.

All that you see and hear comes from the One was freed. Listen!

Hear, O people of God, that Jesus Christ is Lord. Alleluia!

†HYMN OF PROCESSION (Stanzas 1-4)

#302 Christ the Lord Is Risen Today — EASTER HYMN

†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

BAPTISM

BAPTISMAL RESPONSE

Do you as Christ’s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ? We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include Easton and Wren, now before you, in your care?

With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround Easton and Wren with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their service to others. We will pray for them, that they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life.

HYMN

#191 Jesus Loves Me — JESUS LOVES ME

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

†HYMN

#308 Thine Be the Glory — JUDAS MACCABEUS

SCRIPTURE — John 20:1-18

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON — “Images of Jesus”

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

OFFERTORY HYMN

#327 Crown Him With Many Crowns — arr. Dan Forrest (The congregation is invited to sing stanza 4)

†DOXOLOGY

#95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

†PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

God of all creation, source of every blessing: you have given us so much. As we bring our tithes and gifts to you this day, these seem so small by comparison, unless we see that we are truly called to give ourselves back to the world. May we be the ones who bring value in relationship with those around us. May we be the ones who show your light to the world. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, who came to help us see all we could be. Amen.

WE GO AS GOD’S PEOPLE INTO THE WORLD

†BENEDICTION

†BENEDICTION RESPONSE

Hallelujah (from Messiah) — George Frideric Handel

Hallelujah, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth! The Kingdom of this world is become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever, King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Hallelujah! (Revelation 19:6, 11:15, 19:16)

Our Pathfinders class lovingly packs all kinds of goodies and reminds them that as they go into final exams, we are praying for them.

If you have a college student or a boarding school student, please contact Tammy Pollock, Director of Youth Ministry tpollock@centenary-ws.org with their address. The deadline to request a package for your student is April 18.

YOU CAN HELP FEED HUNGRY STUDENTS IN OUR AREA

Did you know that we partner with Brunson Elementary, Wiley Middle School, Reynolds High School and the Winston Salem Street School to help fill their food pantries? At Reynolds and the Winston Salem Street School, we help stock food pantries where students can “go shopping” for food at school to take home. At Brunson and Wiley, we partner with them through the BackPack Program. The school administration identifies students in need of food and enrolls them in the program. We purchase “backpacks” through Second Harvest Food Bank – each one has two breakfasts and two lunches. If you’d like to partner with us in helping these students gain access to food over the weekends, you can do so through prayer, financial support, and volunteering to transport backpacks to schools! For more information, please contact Anna Thomas (athomas@centenary-ws.org/ext 1332).

SIGN UP NOW FOR CHILDREN’S MUSIC & ART CAMP 2024

July 15 - 18, 2024

Beginning April 7, join us for a brand-new series in Youth Sunday school, “Faith Face to Face”. This new series is all about exploring your questions of faith. We asked you what your questions are; you told us what you’re wondering about, and together we will find the answers! In 1 Corinthians 14: 33 we are reminded that “God is a God not of confusion, but of peace”. We can’t wait for you to be part of this great opportunity to take one question of faith each week and seek God’s wisdom so that we might more grow in the likeness and love of Jesus.

CMA Camp is offered for infants through rising 5th graders. Offerings include singing, handbells, handchimes, creative movement, art, Kindermusik, and more! Snacks are provided daily. The week ends with a camper-led worship service on Thursday at 12:30 PM followed by a reception to celebrate the accomplishments of each child during camp. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled week!
