This month in worship, the Centenary Chancel Choir reminds us of the ways that darkness, mourning, and s@llness are integral to the Chris@an faith: from the Brahms Requiem on All Saints Sunday, a promise that those who sow tears of joy will reap ines@mable joy; from Stephen Paulus' Pilgrims' Hymn, the assurance of unceasing love and endless grace in overwhelming darkness; from Howard Helvey's Comfort, Comfort Ye My People, the Advent prophecy of rough places made plain and God's unbroken word; and in Clausen's Hymn of Praise, the psalmist's vision of an everlas@ng dwelling place, a home for our restless and res@ve spirits.
May we take heart and courage as we rest in these promises. May the approaching darkness remind us to be s@ll, to wait. May we speak to our own souls as T. S. Elliot did:
"I said to my soul, be s8ll, and wait... So the darkness shall be the light, and the s8llness the dancing."
Out of the darkness and the s@llness, may we dance in the dazzling light.

Winston-Salem Girls Chorus (WSGC), now celebrating our 24 th season, is a community organization of auditioned young singers from Winston-Salem and surrounding areas. Our mission is to offer a joyful and empowering experience for girls and young women through vocal music education and artistic excellence in choral music performance. We teach our singers proper vocal technique and musicianship skills. Additionally, each singer learns the importance of presentation, both individually and in a group. These tools, however, are just the beginning when working towards the goal of transcendence with collective singing. In rehearsal, we delve deeply into the meaning of the text; how it is enhanced by the notes on the page and how it connects to our lives. When our singers relate emotionally to a piece, the performance becomes more personal and powerful and, therefore, more impactful for our audience. When we stand before others and collectively share our music, great power, honor, strength, and love are created. As we learn and refine the skills of making both beautiful and meaningful sounds, artistry is created and "goose bumps” follow!
We invite you to come and experience our music.
During the month of December, we are excited to display the work of Centenary’s youngest artists! Created during our weekly Children’s Music & Art Night, their art will delight and amaze you!
