October 9 (11am) in worship. And, as we seek to open our arms wide to the community, we welcome the WinstonSalem Girls' Chorus and the Winston-Salem State University Singing Rams as they present a 30-minute concert prelude (October 8, 6:30pm). Invite your friends, family, and colleagues to this weekend, which seeks to build community and to bind us together.

In these pages, you'll nd further evidence of a music and arts ministry seeking to widen its welcome. As we celebrate a successful grand opening of our Atrium Gallery, which a racted nearly 70 community members in September, we welcome in October and November the pain ngs, photographs, and sculptures from an ever-growing group of ar2sts whom Centenary is proud to call our own. Read on to learn about the cri cal work of our Community Kindermusik Collabora2ve, a Centenary crea on which uses the Kindermusik curriculum to enrich the lives of the youngest among us while also cul2va2ng rela2

The JMF Singers will conclude 11am worship on October 9 with these words from Nathan Carter's arrangement of Someday:

"But this I know, if Jesus leads me, I shall get home someday."

In par2cular moments of transcendent beauty, we o nd ourselves transported to places of peace and inspira2on. Perhaps this is a glimpse of home. Perhaps, as we create expressions of relief and experience glimmers of hope, we are on our way. Perhaps, together, we are already homeward bound.

“The Kindermusik Collabora4ve has given me tools and techniques to use at home to assist my children in their development through musical play. It has also given my children opportuni4es to socialize with other children of a wide diverse group.”

– Laura C., parent

Moms, Dads, Grandmas, Grandpas, AunEes, and Nannies from diverse ethniciEes, generaEons, and socio-economic backgrounds come together with their precious young children to enjoy music and movement acEviEes alongside the principles of our faith - love, kindness, grace, and community.

In partnership with the Child Care Resource Center Of Winston-Salem and with parEcipaEon of the LaEno Community Services organizaEon, we offer these Kindermusik classes free of charge. Kindermusik has been providing developmentally appropriate curricula for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers for more than 40 years and is based on the researched premise that music is the best vehicle for enhancing the total development of young children.

In addiEon to being an enrichment for church and community families, we give new Kindermusik educators and those in training an opportunity to gain teaching experience. Under the guidance of Carol Penney, a 45-year member of Centenary and former Director of EducaEon, trainer and curriculum developer for Kindermusik InternaEonal, Centenary is sharing God’s love each week as we welcome one and all to join us in making a joyful noise!

In our difference is blessing, from diversity we praise one Giver. (Hymn 114, United Methodist Hymnal)
