About your Cambridge National Child Development course and qualification Working in the childcare sector can be very rewarding. The Cambridge National Child Development course will help you to develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills that can be used in real-life situations within the sector. You will learn about what a child needs to thrive from pre-conception, through birth to five years old. You will build confidence and independence in practical skills, such as preparing a feed or meal for a child. You will become alert to potential hazards in a child’s environment, both at home and in a childcare setting. You will learn about development norms and how to support a young child to progress by planning suitable play activities. During your Child Development course, you will also develop learning and skills that can be used in other life or work situations, such as skills in research and communication. Your Cambridge National in Child Development can help you progress on to other related study, such as further qualifications in Childcare, Health and Social Care, Psychology, Sociology and Biology. How you will be assessed You have to complete three mandatory units. Mandatory units • R057: Health and well-being for child development. You will take a written exam for this unit. The exam lasts for 1 hour 15 minutes, and is worth 70 marks. The exam is set and marked by OCR. DRAFT • R058: Create a safe environment and understand the nutritional needs of children from birth to five years. You will be given a set assignment with four practical tasks, which is worth 60 marks. • R059: Understand the development of a child from one to five years.

You will be given a set assignment with two practical tasks, which is worth 60 marks.
