It’s All About the Glass Curiousa & Curiousa provide bespoke hand-blown glass lighting from our Derbyshire studio and can be seen in our London showroom, nestled between Islington and Clerkenwell. Esther Patterson, Curiousa’s designer and founder, has a real passion for traditional British manufacturing and a true love of craftsmanship which is reflected in every light she designs. Our pendants and chandeliers can be seen hanging proudly in prestigious establishments in London, including Harvey Nichols, Liberty London, the Royal Albert Hall and London Hilton Bankside as well as many international locations. Every order placed is personal - from single pendants for the home to largescale chandeliers; customers, designers and architects alike receive the same, intimate level of service from our small, close-knit team.

Made by Hand, Crafted with Passion Every single piece of Curiousa glass is crafted by hand. No moulds, no machines, just the skill, understanding and the age-old technique of free-blowing glass. No two pieces are alike: shape, colour, curves, bubbles and swirls, every piece of glass tells its own unique story. The art of free-blowing glass is a magical process. Formed by fire, molten sand, and simple time-honoured tools, it is a technique that dates back to the first century. Care and time are evident. Our glass blowers have over 50 years experience between them, time dedicated to perfecting their craft. Working at temperatures above 1000°C molten glass is stretched, formed and manipulated, re-heating and blowing to bring it into a shape, formed first by hand and breath, and then by callipers, pliers and pincers, constantly rolling, constantly evolving, until the final shape is achieved. The pendant is then cooled overnight, before being drilled, ground and finished. Only then is it assembled in our workshop, tested, packaged and dispatched. 6

The Caravaggio Collection Taking inspiration from the Italian 16th Century Baroque painter, our Caravaggio Collection combine deep, sensuous shades with shimmers of light cast through Swarovski crystals. The Collection uses hand-made tassels from Jessica Light, all made to order in her East London Photogrpahy by Simon Bevan

workshop using methods dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Her skill and attention to detail shine through every shimmering Swarovski crystal woven meticulously into the tassel. Available in black or clear Swarovski crystals, the Caravaggio Collection provides a classical design for our modern tastes.

Bringing Colour to Your Bathroom Having worked closely with the Lighting Industry Association, Curiousa & Curiousa have now launched our new IP44 accredited bathroom lighting range, suitable for Zone 2 use. For years bathroom lighting has been clinical, white and lifeless. Now, with a wide range of our pendants and colourways to choose from, bathrooms can enjoy stylish mood lighting and beautiful pops of colour. The Curiousa & Curiousa Bathroom Collection brings with it not just colour but quality. Having invested over 3 years of research and trials into gaining our IP44 rating we may be the first in the industry to be able to offer fabric coated flex with a pendant light. The soft touches and high quality finishes can now be brought to every room in the house.

Suspension Bar
AT HAARLEM MILL Located in the Derbyshire market town of Wirksworth, Haarlem Mill, was built in 1777 by the famed industrialist, Sir Richard Arkwright. It played a significant role in the birth of the Industrial Revolution as it was the very first mill in the world to use the power of steam. At its peak it employed over 200 workers, making cotton and silks and is said to be the inspiration behind George Eliott’s classic novel ‘The Mill on the Floss’. Any Small, Medium or Large pendants can be used with this Suspension Bar, which can be made up to 2m in length. Finishers available are Aged Brass, Chrome, Dark Bronze, Brushed Steel, Walnut, Oak and Powdercoat.
Triptych Stacks
The Mill is still in the process of being restored and we’re proud to be part of that regeneration, bringing traditional British manufacturing back to this beautiful building. We’re always open to visitors, so why not make an appointment to visit our Derbyshire studio and lose yourself in our Curiousa world.
