We’re also here to make the Union look good. We handle all of the signage, wayfinding, and promotional materials for the building. This includes design work for all departments within the Union.
Internally, we work closely with our student staff, overseeing projects, creating educational materials, leading critique sessions, and providing guidance by demonstrating techniques. Externally, our latest endeavor is The Lab, a workshop series focused on creativity and design topics.
Tell me more about The Lab! The Lab is led by a crack team of creative wizards from Marketing & Design. Workshops are chock-full of inspiration, useful knowledge, and hands-on activities. Previous topics have included Personal Branding, Type for the Non-Designer, Résumé Design, and Portfolio Basics. Sessions a re free and open to all Carolina students, but you must register to attend. So what is ActiviTV anyways? ActiviTV is our digital advertising service. Advertisements loop continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ads run on 7 day cycles, on high definition screens throughout the Student Union and SASB. We’re available to design eye-catching ads, so be sure to contact us a few weeks prior to your event! Hey students, we’re looking for employees! Marketing & Design is always looking for talented designers, photographers, and friendly office assistants to work in our office. Designers fall into two categories, Design Interns and Design Assistants. Design Interns may choose to receive class credit or work for the experience, and after working for us for a semester or two, awesome interns often advance to a Design Assistant position. Design Assistants are paid employees, and thus more experienced designers. Photography Assistants are responsible for taking photographs for clients, and capturing the daily hustle and bustle within the Union. Office Assistants handle much of the administrative duties in our office, from greeting customers and visitors, to invoicing clients after a completed project. You’ll get a fairytale ending, provided you speak with us as soon as possible. We’ve set up shop to provide creative services to as many groups and departments on campus as possible, and we hate saying no. An average project takes at least two weeks to design, not including any print or production time. Some projects, such as logos and publications, take upwards of four weeks. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with stellar concepts, and by allowing us ample time to design, we’re able to do just that.
So what goes into that design fee anyways? Blood, sweat, tears, and rainbow sprinkles! All joking aside, we do research, seek out inspirational imagery, brainstorm, and sketch ideas, all before polishing up our best concepts on the computer.
That’s all fine and good, but how much does it cost? The following pages list base costs for our most popular design, photography, and production services. After we’ve met or spoken with a group, we’ll send them an estimate including the design fee and any production costs.
