Morse Beach ends 2012 season early By Stephanie Simpson • editorial@youarecurrent.com Due to the low and receding water levels caused by this summer’s drought, Morse Beach has had to close for the rest of the 2012 season. Normally, the beach would be open daily until Aug. 14 and thereafter would be open on weekends until Labor Day. Lifeguards and season pass holders are greatly affected by early closing. Allen Patterson, director of Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Dept., which runs the beach, said that lifeguards were given the option to stay on staff to help close down the beach. Those who agreed to stay are now working on various projects to get the area ready for next year’s summer season. Such maintenance activities include putting equipment away, repairing ropes and buoys and painting the bathhouse. As for the few summer pass holders, Patterson is still discussing how to best handle the situation. Closing early isn’t something entirely new for Morse Beach. In Patterson’s 20 years in the de-

partment, he recalled the beach having to close due to drought conditions one time before. Additionally, during this previous early closing, there was less water than the beach has now. So for the rest of the summer, residents will have to cool off in local pools and splash parks and look forward to the opening of Morse Beach in 2013.
Logan Street getting repaired – Repair work on brick sections of Logan Street between 10th and 16th streets will commence this week. Certain areas of the roadway have settled over the years into uneven surfaces, and they will be repaired to make the road more level. The bricks on the street will be removed prior to the work and replaced after the work ends. If additional bricks are needed to complete the project, they will be matched as closely as possible to the existing bricks. This project is expected to take approximately six weeks. While through traffic will not be allowed on this section of Logan Street, homeowners have been notified about the project and access to the homes will be maintained. Visitors to Randall and Roberts Funeral Home will need to park on the side streets during a portion of the construction.

Peterson wins best in show in first year By Robert Herrington • robert@youarecurrent.com
For the past two years, Jenna Peterson of Arcadia competed in the mini 4-H program. In her first year as a 4-H member, the 9-yearold daughter of John and Susan Peterson won Grand Champion in Home Environment. “It’s a Grand Champion purple ribbon,” the Husky 4-Hers club member exclaimed to her mother and older sister, Emily, when she saw the results after judging. Each age-based group has a champion and reserve champion. Of those, the top two projects are awarded Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion placing. “It’s exciting because when you are a beginner, it’s hard to win because there are so many older people doing it,” Jenna said of being named best in show. “I was shocked.” Jenna said the Home Environment project teaches 4-H’ers “how to remodel things that are not really useful.” For her project, Jenna transformed an old Navy artillery case into a school supplies trunk. “She was covered in dark paint when she was sanding,” Susan said of her youngest daughter. While it was her first year, Home Environment is nothing new to Jenna. Her older sisters completed projects for many years – Meghan did eight projects and Emily just finished her fourth year.

The first 4-H project occurred before the county fair officially opened. Inside the air conditioned Llama Barn, members of the dog project participated in dog obedience on July 16. This is the fourth year Amy Grace Clark of Carmel has competed with her collie, Sierra. “I just enjoy doing it with my dog and doing stuff with my dog,” she said. Members in the dog project learn about canine care, training, nutrition and health. The dog project also consists of the 4-H Dog Agility contest, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Llama Barn. While all dog
project participants must complete dog obedience, dog agility is optional. Dog obedience focuses on training, commands and hand signals. Dog agility courses include weave poles, hoops, jumps and other obstacles. “I definitely prefer agility,” said Clark. “You get to do a course, your dog enjoys it more because there’s lots of obstacles and more interaction.”

Our old town parks
Commentary by Don Seal
Whenever someone thinks about parks in Noblesville, usually Forest Park or James A. Dillon Park comes to mind. There are, however, two lovely “pocket” parks in old town Noblesville that not only add to the quality of life for the immediate neighbors, but also host city-wide events that have become traditions for our city. Those parks are Seminary Park, located on South 10th Street between Hannibal and Division streets and Southside Park, located on Pleasant Street between Third and Fourth streets. The Gazebo in Seminary Park has been a focal point for various functions. During the warmer months, numerous weddings are held there. In the summer, the Gazebo has been the home for various Noblesville Cultural Arts Commission performances. It seems like just yesterday when Jane Campbell approached then-Mayor Mary Sue Rowland with the idea for a theater in the park. The mayor contacted me and asked whether I thought such a proposal would work on such a small property. My response was let’s try. A very young NHS drama teacher, Gregg Richards, proposed “Shakespeare in the Park,” and thus a new tradition was born. This year’s production will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Friday and Saturday and Aug. 2, 3 and 4. That was 20 years ago. Since then, the No-
blesville Cultural Arts Commission has added a two-month-long concert series to the Seminary calendar during July and August. The series features a wide range of music from small classical ensemble groups to the Army Jazz Band. This year’s concerts are performed every Sunday in July and August and begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission to all Seminary Park performances is free. Southside Park has been a source of pride for near-south-side residents for many years. The ball diamond has served as a location for both softball and baseball games. The basketball court was a hotbed for Indiana’s favorite game and, one season, the park was the practice site for the Noblesville Football Grinders. A longtime south side resident, Tomasina Anderson, lead the effort to beautify the park by adding flower gardens and, eventually, vegetable gardens. Inspired by these efforts, the Rev. Jay Miller and his congregation decided to bring a huge neighborhood activity to the park and the “Proud Heritage Picnic” was established. But, this year’s picnic will be Sept. 29 and will be hosted at Seminary Park, so that they can increase their reach and celebrate their heritage. The final 4-H fair for any 10-year member is always memorable, but for Arcadia’s Sarah Huber, it was “shocking.” Huber was crowned the 2012 Hamilton County 4-H Fair Queen, beating out 22 other contestants. “When they first called my name I was really surprised and incredibly excited,” she said. “It’s such an incredible moment – it’s overwhelming.” Huber, the daughter of Doug and Bernie Huber, said the fact she was the newest county queen didn’t hit her until the following day when she thought about the gallery of Hamilton County 4-H queen photos hanging inside the fair office. “What an honor it is to be queen and have your picture up there,” she said. “It’s the crowning moment of my 4-H career.” Looking back at her 10 years as a member of the Huskey 4-H’ers 4-H Club, Huber said she’s really grown and knows how hard volunteers have helped her and other 4-H’ers. “I appreciate how much 4-H has taught me,” she said. Noblesville’s David Boudia is a favorite to end USA’s diving medal drought at 2012 Olympics By Robert Herrington • robert@youarecurrent.com David Boudia’s name and diving prowess is well known in Noblesville and the Big Ten, but in just days the former NHS Miller will hopefully capture the nation’s attention as he competes in two 10-meter diving events at the Summer Olympics in London. Four years ago, Boudia competed in the 2008 Beijing games as a 19 year old. He finished fifth in the 10-meter synchronized event with Thomas Finchum of Indianapolis and 10th in the 10-meter individual platform. Last month, Boudia placed first in both those events at the Olympic Trials in Federal Way, Wash. “In 2008, I was a kid,” he said. “2012 looks a lot different. . . Coming off the 2008 Olympic Games and going straight into the college season was definitely a huge preparation. I’ve been growing and learning from being at Purdue University. Faith is in my life. I have a different approach for 2012.” Now just 23 years old, Boudia has spent the time between Olympics filling his mantle with awards and national titles. He earned silver in the 2009 World Championships, has 17 career national titles, is a six time NCAA national champion, and was named the NCAA Diver of the Year three times. He is also the American record holder for six-dive platform and most points on a single dive and won the Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year in the Big Ten. “It’s a tremendous honor,” said Boudia. “It’s not just diver of the year, you are beating out football players and future NBA players.” Despite being in the upper echelon of divers in the world, Boudia remains humble and focused. “There’s always goals and expectations,” he said. “I’m taking it one step at a time – trusting the work put in – and gaining perspective to why I am doing this, something I did not have going into 2008.” Helping to make his second Olympics easier, Boudia will compete in the same events as 2008. “It’s the same scenario. I know what to expect in the Olympic Games,” he said. “I know what to do and what not to do.” One big difference is his synchronized partner – Duke University’s Nick McCrory. The two were partnered together in 2010 and McCrory’s skill set allows the duo to attempt higher point dives than Boudia was previously able to do with
Finchum. “We were placed together by High Performance Diving,” explained Boudia. “We were both at the top of our games that year. We’ve grown as synchronized partners the last two years. Nick is capable of being at the top.” The two took fourth at the 2012 FINA World Cup earlier this year and dominated the U.S. Olympic Trials last month. Despite their different school locations, the USOC has helped pay travel and expenses so the two could work together preparing for London. “In March and April we had four weeks of straight competition,” said Boudia. “That could not have been a more perfect scenario.” Entering the Olympics, Boudia is on a roll professionally and personally – he became engaged in May. “The past year has been amazing,” he said. Prior to his departure, Boudia’s family and community hosted a send-off which reminded him that Boudia performs a back pike. no matter the outcome, he was a success in everyone’s eye. Photo courtesy of PMG Sports “Lots of people have come out to support me,” said Boudia. “An athlete is only as good as their support system. It’s an absolute blessing to have them. Whether I win or lose they’ll always be behind me and love me.” Boudia began diving in the fall of 2010. Prior to then, he competed in different sports including gymnastics. While watching the Atlanta games in 1996, Boudia Family: Son of Jim and Sheilagh Boudia and brother of Shaila and Shauni first realized his goal of being an Olympian. Brightpoint HQ
It is our position that the pending sale of locally-based cell phone distributor Brightpoint is a significant concern for the entire Central Indiana region. Certainly protection of jobs for the 1,300 workers in Plainfield is paramount, but even if headcount remains steady the loss will be felt throughout the community. Corporate headquarters provide much more than just a sense of local pride. Support of local philanthropy and leadership in community activities are concentrated around a company’s decision makers. When those decisions are being made in other states, as will happen when the Brightpoint sale is completed, corporate engagement will inevitably diminish. Even if most local jobs are initially preserved, the longer-term trend can be expected to disfavor Central Indiana. No doubt this area offers a competitive location for distribution hubs, but just as certainly Brightpoint CEO Bob Laikin wanted his facilities to be close to him and to benefit his community. Our home-court advantage will be absent when future decisions of this sort are being made in California. Mr. Laikin and his team are to be commended for the business they built and the local support they’ve shown. We hope that they continue to be involved and advocate on behalf of Central Indiana while other entrepreneurs fill any voids left by Brightpoint’s HQ relocation.

City residents take heed of burn ban
Negative space Commentary by Terry Anker Decorators refer to it as negative space – the absence of something, often clutter, which in its void makes apparent the more sublime elements of the arrangement. The point is that the deficiency of distraction allows one to focus on the essential elements of our environs with greatest clarity. Such is the case with the emerging understanding of my eldest. Now participating in a program through his school that arranges and chaperones an annual exchange program with its sister school in Japan, he finds himself 16 years old and now residing with a host family half way around the globe. Yet thanks to the wonders of Internet communication and ubiquitous Wi-Fi, we are able to solicit a daily update on his travails. Food is first on his list of daily observations – for anyone who has experience with teenage boys this comes as no surprise. Then comes comment on architecture, culture and people. But this week, he Tweeted something to the world (a Tweet is
an Internet-posted comment that is visible to all of his followers and to millions more who prowl these locales) that highlights the lucidity that only comes from great distance. He discovered, as many have before him, that one travels to learn about other countries, but instead learns as much or more about their own. I am anxious to discover what he’s garnered. Did he find a new understanding of American exceptionalism; or instead, did he find an ancient culture more refined and transcendent than our own? Perhaps the depth of his insight will be limited to noticing that the Japanese eat more fish and less beef. Regardless, he is learning that much is gained from perspective. It inspires me to get outside of myself and try to gain a little distance from my own beliefs. Wish me luck. Terry Anker is an associate editor of Current Publishing, LLC. Citizens of Noblesville, take a bow! Your compliance with the Common Council’s ban on open burning and use of consumer fireworks has had fantastic results. According to the city, “…, the Noblesville Fire Department has responded to four outside fires since the ban took effect on June 29 as opposed to over 40 outside fires from June 1 - 28.” We suspect the ban will be in effect for quite some time. We’re no weather experts, but even a few downpours wouldn’t do much to stanch the existing fire risk. If you see anyone in violation, call the city’s non-emergency dispatcher at 773-1300. ••• Through our untrained political eyes, we view President Barack Obama actually defining what challenger Mitt Romney represents for and to the American people. If that truly is the case, Romney had best assert himself, or it’ll be lights out before the game ever begins. It’s something for all of us to watch. Tell us if you disagree. ••• A friend recently told us his daughter is fired up for school, which, for her, begins next Monday. She attends a private school, but still, whatever happened to summer? Back in the day, which is how it should be today, we were out the first Friday in June, back the day after Labor Day. If this kid we know wanted to go to summer camp, for instance, she would have barely made it to the fourth of the traditional eight weeks – given most camps’ calendars. There is too much time off during the year. We believe 180 days can be achieved and still give the kids a full summer. ••• The Department of Energy, which was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil, has beefed up to 16,000 employees and an annual budget of $29.5 billion. Resident thankful for first responders’ actions Editor, On July 4, I suffered a full cardiac arrest at the Noblesville Fireworks Festival and Car Show. Due to the quick and professional actions of our Noblesville Fire Dept. and paramedics, I am able to send this letter of appreciation. I do not know all the paramedics’ names, but I want to thank paramedic James Macky for his expert actions at the scene. Special thanks to Division
Chief Rick Russell! He was on the scene immediately and began his relentless lifesaving CPR even before the EMT arrival. Thanks also to Riverview Hospital ER and its expert team of cardiologists for their immediate lifesaving procedures. Noblesville should be very proud of the dedicated group of first responders, and I know I am alive only because of them. Ron Francis, 46060
Wilson is a bully, not comical Editor, First of all, WE live in the United States of America, with freedom to make choices for our own well being. The fact this article was on a page titled VIEWS laughs is kind of stupid in itself. This is not a funny column. Parents are not stupid or idiots because they don’t make the same decisions you do. Many feel threatened and are scared to make their own decisions for their children because of people like you who speak
without knowing all the facts. If vaccinations really work, why are you worried? If your children are vaccinated, then they shouldn’t get a disease. Really? Maybe you should check out the real facts and threats. I find this column a form of bullying. It is written for public viewing, making fun of decisions made for children’s health. Give me a break. Dr. Betty Clark, 46038
Reader appreciated Scoles’ insight Editor, I am not a fanatic on doing our families research, but I have been searching for various relatives and families since the 1990’s. Your last article recommending the “Genealogy in Five Minutes” was terrific. I have spent most of the last week learning and using this tool, especially in the early morning hours
when my wife is still sleeping, researching at www. FamilySearch.com. I have found new information and also verified old information on both of our families. Thank you for such a great column! Ed Turk, 46062
Sorry for the name calling, not stance Commentary by Danielle Wilson Wow. I just returned from vacation where I was thankfully unable to access my e-mail, or should I say “hate mail.” I knew I’d upset some folks when I wrote a column on immunizations, I just didn’t think the response would be quite so intense. I haven’t received this much backlash since my controversial articles on homeschooling in 2009. [See Current archives for some fun reads!] I suppose when I attack parenting choices, however, I deserve it. That being said, I won’t apologize for my opinions on immunizations, though I will say I’m sorry for branding people who choose not to immunize as “idiots.” That was an unprofessional comment based purely on emotion. You certainly have the right to choose what’s best for your children, and like I said in the article, I support you 100 percent in that capacity. I don’t agree with your choice at all, but that doesn’t give me the right to call you an idiot, at least not in public. Most of the hate mail was from parents of autistic children, so let me address them first. I personally know several families with an autistic child. It is a devastating diagnosis and can drastically alter the lives of everyone involved. I don’t blame you for looking for a reason for why your child is
different. And although most of the physicians and nurses who wrote in agreed with me, I did receive some negative comments from medical professionals, saying I knew nothing of science. “Why do you even care if your kids are vaccinated?” I care because even vaccinated children can get sick (that much I do know), and I really don’t want my household to be quarantined for a month because some unvaccinated kid brought measles to the local elementary school. Finally, let me remind all of you who constantly complain about my lack of professional journalism that I’M NOT A PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST, nor do I claim to be! My column is posted under opinion or humor, not hard news. I write about what I think as a resident of Indianapolis suburbia. And contrary to what several readers believe, I don’t wear Prada or drive a Cadi, nor do I channel Hitler in my free time. I’m just an average working mom who frequently suffers from word vomit, the content of which occasionally warrants some hate mail. Peace out. Danielle Wilson is a contributing columnist. Getting that green thumb
By Robert Herrington • robert@youarecurrent.com For six years, Jeremiah Witek of Noblesville has participated in the 4-H gardening project. Witek said this year’s weather conditions have made the project a little more difficult and time consuming. “I kept on watering – almost every night, but at least every other,” said the Friends Forever 4-H Club member. “Because of the heat, some www.currentnoblesville.com
of my tomato plants didn’t do too good.” Witek said his favorite vegetable to eat is sweet peppers. He puts them on sandwiches and “basically everything.” His favorite vegetable to grow is cucumbers “because we get so many on our vine.” During his time in the project, Witek said gardening has taught him patience. “It’s hard to be patient though; rough weather and different things that happen to plants – like bugs,” he said. Compression of realities Commentary by David Cain
Here’s a stunning reality, the iPhone is only five years old. The first version, now considered a relic, was introduced on January 9, 2007, and offered for sale on June 29, 2007. That little smart phone that now boasts sales in excess of 146 million units just turned five. In March of 2012, Encyclopedia Britannica announced it would not produce any new print editions. The 2010 edition is the last to be printed, ending a legacy that had continued since the first edition made its way to an information-starved world in 1768. Did Google replace Britannica’s print version or is it actually Wikipedia that stepped in the way? Regardless, the encyclopedias that graced the shelves of my childhood are now dusty artifacts for garage sales and antique malls perched next to the rotary dial phone. It’s hard to believe how quickly ‘normal’ gets Old standby – Wells Fargo (WFC) is unique among bank stocks, as it’s been a steady grower for decades. redefined. It is like raising kids, when you are around them you don’t realize how big they are getting. Before you know it, they are adults. Our realities are compressing to the point where we’ve lost all perspective of the past. Our reality is evolving at the speed of technology, creating an elusive normality that once provided comfort. The key is to stay in the today. The fundamentals haven’t changed. People must still have meaningful relationships and establish connections. People still rely on other people. People still need products and services that add value. People still need to have human connections. People still need you but they are just expecting you to offer yourself faster and better than before. David Cain works at Magnitude, a sales and marketing company. Honoring our ancestors through story chains Commentary by Kristen Boice The release of the 1940 Census has created some interesting buzz – and one very worthwhile endeavor in the world of family history. Since many of those listed in this particular census are still alive or at least well-remembered by family members who are, the stories of their lives can now be shared along with the details the census provides. FamilySearch.org recently launched an effort to do just that. By visiting www.familysearch.org/1940census/ ancestor-stories, anyone can submit stories, facts and photos about family members who were a part of that census – and invite others to add to what they have posted. Entire story “chains” can be built around individuals, places and events from this important time in our country’s history. FamilySearch.org explains it this way: Our mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors found in the 1940 Census are known as the “The Greatest Generation.” We all have special memories of those found in this important historical collection – now it’s time to record and archive those stories. FamilySearch is providing everyone the unique opportunity to remember and share with the world just
what it is that made these people great to them. On this site visitors can submit photos, scrapbook pages, stories, or links to videos and Facebook pages in their honor under the “Who’s In It” tab. Information can also be posted about “How It Was” living where they lived, and stories telling “Where They Were” during major events in the late 1930s and early 1940s. The power of this online experience is that anyone can start a family and friend “Story Chain” and invite others to join in the conversation! A YouTube video explains the process at www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceP8XTQ61k0 and a map allows users to browse stories already shared along the timeline. By posting our own family experiences, we can help paint a picture of a special time and the special people who made it that way. What a wonderful way to honor those who hold such a special place in our hearts and in our history. Darla Kinney Scoles is a freelance journalist living in Noblesville. Her most recent work involves the creation of “Stories”, an individualized writing service helping people get their personal histories down on paper. Contact her at darlakinneyscoles@gmail.com.
Suits you – Getting married this summer? You may be tempted to break out the bells and whistles, but despite your best instincts, your energy and hard earned money is better spent on tailoring. An inexpensive but impeccably cut suit will look like a million bucks. The same can’t be said for a pricey, ill-fitting one. - www.askmen.com

Illuminated Skin
Sometimes a slight change in your beauty routine can make all the difference. While many opt to smooth on foundation before applying concealer, the trick to achieving Kim Kardashian’s illuminated skin is to reverse the formula. Be sure to choose a concealer that is half a shade lighter than your natural skin tone, as anything too fair will look chalky. Dab the product right under your eyes and blend downward in a v-formation that lines up with the sides of your nose. You can also swipe a touch of the concealer along the bridge of your nose to give it a more contoured appearance. Then, fill in the rest of your face with a tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation to blend any harsh edges and even out the rest of your skin. Call to schedule your personal makeup consultation session here at Salon 01. Our highly skilled estheticians can put together a formula that is ideal for your skin tone.

Metallic Shadow
A full smoky eye can look too heavy for the summer months, so opt for a single color in a deep bronze instead. This simple eye makeup can have a sultry feel, thanks to the shadow’s antiqued hue. When working with powder shadows, be sure to smooth on an eye primer before blending on the shade. This will add extra staying power, and make the product’s color really pop. Stop by Salon 01 and visit us to see the latest selection of Jane Iredale and our own Salon 01 brand makeup. Our eye shadows are light and contain SPF, which can help keep your skin safe all summer long.

The West is worth it Commentary by Tracy Line
It happened out of the blue: I fell in love… With the state of Montana! My family has just returned from a fabulous vacation to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. It’s a trip we’ve been trying to make for five years. But as we all know life (read: time, commitments, money) sometimes gets in the way. The trip did not disappoint. We all enjoyed the beauty the parks have to offer: mountains, waterfalls, geysers galore and of course lots and lots of wildlife. Yet as glorious as the Tetons are, as thrilling as it is to see a mama bear and her cub playing in a meadow, or bison grazing just outside our cabin, my heart now belongs to state of Montana. I loved the people; they reminded me of Hoosiers. I loved the towns; friendly and quaint with a backdrop of the Absaroka Mountains. I loved the wide, open spaces. But most of all, I loved Beartooth Highway. Charles Kuralt once called it “the most beautiful highway in America” and I’d have to agree. Built in 1936, Beartooth is a section of highway 212 that runs between the cities of Cooke City and Red Lodge, Montana. To be fair, a good stretch of it zigzags into Wyoming; so I guess I love both states. It is one of the highest and most rugged areas in our country, and not for
Yellowstone National Park the faint of heart. The highway is full of curves and switchbacks, which allow it the most wonderful views imaginable. Along this drive you’ll wander through the Custer, Gallatin and Shoshone National Forests. The elevation rises from 5,000 to 8,000 feet. There are 20 mountain peaks that reach over 12,000 feet. Beautiful lakes, green meadows and snowcapped mountains galore; I was in heaven. My advice? Visit Yellowstone, see the Grand Tetons, but add the Beartooth Highway to your travel plans. New cosmetic kitchen remodel Commentary by Larry Greene ORIGINAL KITCHEN: This home is located in the Huntington Chase subdivision on the west side of Carmel. The current owners built the home in 1996 as a spec home with the current kitchen as is. REASONS FOR REMODELING: According to the owner, “We remodeled the kitchen for three reasons: the lighting, the flooring and the storage space. The original lighting was not adequate, as there was no lighting over the peninsula or under cabinet lighting, so it was very hard to work in the kitchen. The original tile floors were cracking and the grout was coming out. It turns out that one side of the kitchen was 5/8” lower than the other side. The subflooring was installed incorrectly and making the tile crack. Finally, the existing kitchen storage was minimal, so I had to store many of my kitchen items in the basement. There was a pantry, but there was no space for pots and pans etc.” MORE STORAGE WITH CABINETRY: The homeowner is thrilled with the additional storage space. “My favorite part of the remodel is the cabinets we had built. I wanted more storage in the kitchen, but I did not want to have another piece of furniture that did not fit with the kitchen. Having the cabinetry built to be cohesive with the other cabinets gave me the look and storage that I wanted. We also really like the addition of the bench, coat hooks and shelves
in the entryway to the kitchen. It has made a big impact on the way we live in the house, as we have a place for coats, gloves, family calendar and papers. All of the additional storage now allows me to keep kitchen essentials in the kitchen, rather than the basement.
FINISH DETAILS: The homeowner also enjoys the new functionality. “The granite countertops give me additional serving space, while allowing me the peninsula for prep space. We added many electrical outlets to the new cabinet areas too, which help a great deal when we are entertaining. The new peninsula and under-cabinet lighting has greatly improved the kitchen as well. It is much easier to work in there, and the area is much less dreary.” Larry Greene is the president of Case Design/Remodeling, a full-service design/build firm serving Hamilton County.
