tudents accepted into the program will be enrolled as Curtin University students, receive a $1107 scholarship1, and be involved in technical and professional development training delivered by a team of national award-winning CBS academics and industry professionals. Student Opportunities and Benefits The CBS Excelerate program opens doors for students before they complete high school. Some of the benefits of the program include: • A deeper conceptual understanding of Accounting, Economics or Information Systems and the practical application of these concepts in the business world. • Training in state-of-the-art facilities including the Future Technologies Learning Space, simulated stock market trading room and professional development precinct. • A two-day professional development retreat involving training from industry experts. • Immersion within professional business environments. • The opportunity to network with senior industry professionals. • The chance to attain employment positions. • Credit towards a Curtin business degree.

Information systems The Competitive Edge Participants in each of the CBS Excelerate streams will learn how to apply their conceptual knowledge to resolve real business problems and add value to an organisation. As importantly, the program will develop within participants the skills required to attain a professional employment position and progress rapidly in their chosen career. Training is provided on interview technique, business etiquette, effective communication, productive teamwork and leadership. A significant focus is placed on developing a mature, commercial way of thinking with particular emphasis on developing the ability to think critically, creatively and laterally. As a consequence, graduates of the CBS Excelerate program think and act differently to their peers. They stand out from the crowd and possess a competitive advantage when applying for professional opportunities.

I am proud to support the exceptional CBS Excelerate prog ram. The confidence and maturity of students who have graduated from the program is very impressive and it is clear the majority have outstand ing careers in business ahead of them . Mr Denis Horgan Chairman, Leeuwin Estate Win ery

Industry Engagement CBS has very strong links with industry and these relationships strongly influence the way in which CBS students are trained and developed. The CBS Advisory Boards, comprising 72 of Perth’s most senior business leaders, provide guidance on curriculum design and content while industry partnerships offer real-life case studies and training to ensure CBS graduates transition seamlessly to any professional workplace and add value from day one. The CBS relationship with industry begins with Excelerate. PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the largest professional services firms in the world, has provided ongoing training and job opportunities since 2003. The program also enjoys the strong support of Leeuwin Estate Winery, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bunnings, IKEA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. Traineeship Opportunities In the Accounting stream, our partnerships with industry offer outstanding students the opportunity to achieve either a traineeship or a paid internship position. A traineeship offers students part-time employment in some of the world’s top accounting firms during their degree and a full-time position after graduation. An internship provides students with two weeks of paid work experience.

of past participants claim that their self-confidence has improved significantly as a result of participating in the Excelerate program.²

I obtained a professional traineeship position at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as a result of my participation in the CBS Excelerate (Accounting) program at Curtin. I applied for a two year, full-time, paid traineeship within the organisation, went through the interview process and was deemed a successful candidate. I am now working in the International Tax Division at the Perth office. It has been fantastic to be able to put my uni study into practice whilst learning it and PwC have been very accommodating of my study schedule - “work, life, balance” is their motto! I love the fact that I was not treated like a trainee but was thrown into the deep end and expected to work like every other member of the tax team. My thoughts and decisions were put into practice and used on client accounts - it is great to think you are having a small impact in the running of a huge multinational company! In February of next year I will be working full-time as a Tax Consultant at PwC and will be looking to complete my professional studies in Chartered Accountancy. The involvement of big businesses with the Excelerate program provided me with an invaluable insight into the reality which exists outside of the classroom.
