The words "going green" and "reducing pollution" is repeated like a broken record in today's modern society, but many people know as well that executing these exact words are easier said than done. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, the problem of global warming and pollution have been a rapidly rising problem that has been addressed numerous amounts of times in the past and even the present. In the article, "New environment tax will hit businesses in China hard, say experts" by Maggie Zhang, Zhang describes that China has introduced a new environmental tax that will hopefully limit pollutants manufacturers release into the air. Zhang argues that the new tax may not be favorable yet necessary, not because of the attempt to reduce pollutants into the air is not enough, but the hidden problems that may arise due to this new tax being implemented. Although the new tax is necessary, problems that may arise from this new tax may include companies not being ready for the new tax, and a rise in consumer costs and supply. A major problem with the new proposed bill is that companies may not be ready for the new system, and they will have to find alternatives to counteract possible future funds lost due to the tax. According to Kenneth

Greater China's indirect tax leader, "Many businesses appear to be underprepared to cope with the new taxation and are lagging behind in adapting their operational procedures to factor in the impact from it." The loss of revenue as a

Air and water pollution is one of the biggest problems the environment faces today. It is one of the highest leading cause of death. Air and water pollution has been affecting the environment for many years causing many diseases among people especially children. I will study and examine the early childhood growth between two countries which are Australia and Tanzania. I will discuss how clean and polluted their air and water is for each country. Their access to clean water. I will also explain the effects that can occur when water is contaminated. How children are affected when they don 't have access to primary essentials and how each country and their environment and living condition might threatened a child 's life.

But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently shown that drinking water in some parts of Australia has shown to be contaminated with uranium, faecal bacteria and nitrates. (Schwarzenbach, R., Egli, T., Hofstetter, T., Von Gunten, U., & Wehrli, B. (2010).Meaning those who don 't have access to clean water in Australia will likely become sick or catch a disease affecting not only their growth but a child growth as well. Water is important to the human body. As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who are of high income. (Health, J., & Kim. (2004) found that air pollution can cause chronic effects on the development of a child that can lead to many illnesses like asthma and bronchitis as a result of living in high–ozone country meaning high pollutant than those who live in a low–ozone country.Committee on Environmental Health, J., & Kim. (2004). In Australia, food security is considered to be an important social determinant of health and a significant public health issue at national and state levels. Food insecurity is, however, especially important to child and family

The Effects Of Pollution On The Environment

Our environment nowadays is becoming more polluted by the second. There are several types of pollution in the atmosphere: Air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and many more. It is corroding away our trees and contaminating our water. People take no interest in looking after the environment because they cannot see the effects it is causing the earth. Pollution is becoming dangerously high and it is beginning to affect wildlife. Due to the water being contaminated, they have no safe drinking water. These high levels of pollution in the animals' drinking water are causing the extinction of certain species, and it may be of a species that is already rare or have a scarce number of. Humans make land fill sites that pollute the air we breathe; we are damaging the environment without even realising. Humans also litter smoke, start fires and let off very harmful gases into the atmosphere that are affecting us in our daily life. The gases that are given off by fires etc. is the cause f the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the harmful gases that are given off each day creating a dome over our atmosphere; the sun reflects off the inside of the dome and then gets trapped, causing global warming. More and more heat energy from the sun enters the 'dome' every day. Global warming is the cause of the melting of the polar ice caps, which is home to some of the world's most well–known species: Penguins, polar bears etc. Acid rain is another cause of the

The environmental issue I choose is pollution. There is different types of pollution. There is water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution, and light pollution. Every type of pollution is bad and it is causing health issues and even worst, deaths. Pollution is A very serious subject that is harmful to people and the environment. It is killing A lot of people. 4.6 million people die each year from pollution. Each year 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, stormwater, and industrial waste are dumped into US water.Pollution is one of the most biggest global killers affecting over 100 million people. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. Approximately 40% of lakes in America are too polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming. Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surroundings. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem. Air Pollution is the most dangerous forms of pollution. It occurs due to many of reasons, excessive burning of fuel, cooking, driving and other types of activities that are similar. They release A huge amount of chemical substances in the air everyday; these pollute the air. Also smoke from chimneys, factories, vehicles or burning basically occurs due to coal burning. Air pollution is breaking down our ozone layer. There is different types of pollution but environmental pollution has been around for centuries and it is affecting the environment. People should care about this topic because pollution is a serious problem and it causes many deaths and illnesses. The worst types of pollution are air pollution and water pollution, they don't only harm our environment but also our health. It's really scary to think about because around 15,000 people in the world each day die because of water pollution and 2.4 million people in the world die each year because of air pollution. So this is a big environmental issue. The causes of water pollution is water and sewage waste. World population is increasing each year. This is causing huge environmental and health damage. Most water pollution doesn't begin in the water it starts with what stuff filters and enters through the water. Get more content

Essay On Environmental Pollution

Abstract NW Indiana is a beautiful region that is a host to many different communities, animals and plants alike. However, we are faced with the issue of environmental pollution, especially soil, water, air and thermal pollution. This has caused some people to leave their homes, animals to die and even children to become sick which is quite disheartening. This paper addresses the environmental pollution problem by looking at the causes, the effects, and some possible remedies or solutions that we can employ. It engages in online research as well as field research.

Peer–reviewed journals and articles that address the topic have been used to establish information regarding the causes, and the effects of water, soil, air and thermal pollution in the region as well. Luckily, I have also found that there are several different organizations and groups who are dedicated to providing environmental protection to the communities of NW Indiana. Furthermore, for the credibility of my research, I engaged a few representatives from environmental organizations that have done extensive research and are currently working with NW Indiana to correct the pollution issues at hand. I messaged back and forth with Jesse Kharbanda, who is the Executive Director of the Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC). I spoke over the phone with Hala Kuss, who is the Director of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for the Northwest Indiana office. Also, I met in–person with a friend, and Park Ranger at the Indiana Dunes State Park, Rick Neville. Each individual that I had spoken with had a different area to talk about. They are all working on something to help reduce pollution, whether it be pushing new legislation through office, maintaining pollution standards/limits, or conducting research on the effect that pollution has played in our communities. Pollutants are impacting aquatic organisms distributed by daily human activities and natural occurrences. An extensive amount of pollutants such as pesticides, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons can result in direct significant damage, e.g. death. However lower levels of these harmful substances can be stored in an organism and increase as it continues and follows up the food chain, a process called biomagnification or bioaccumulation, having the greatest effect on the top predator of that food chain. A common result of the pollutants can lead to stress, changing of the immune system, inhibit lysozyme activity, damage gills, metabolism, and growth. Other factors include an excessive amount of nutrients in the environment. Nitrogen can make its way into aquatic ecosystems when there is an increase in nitrous oxide in the air, allowing eutrophication. Algae and bacteria feed off the nitrogen, so a high number of these organisms appear and use oxygen around them as the feed, causing hypoxic zones, or dead zones. Acidification, an increase in the ecosystem's pH acidity from acid rain, which occurs from an increase in CO2 from air pollution. Aquatic organisms have a range of tolerance, and water with high acidic pH will lead the organism out of the range of tolerance, resulting in stress of the organism, and eventually death. Further studies are being pursuited to see larger impacts of globalized pollution on aquatic species and their ecosystems.

Automobiles like these are around the world everyday, and their exhaust destroys our air everyday.

Our environment is a major aspect of our life today. Many of us don't take our Earth seriously and think that as long as pollution doesn't hurt them they can go ahead and throw garbage on the ground or spill oil down the drain. Well to many people have that theory and they are killing offour Earth and also physically harming themselves from the air they breath and the water they swim in. Our Earth is fragile like a human and people don't know. There are many different types ofenvironmental pollution (e.g. Water, air, atmospheric.)

If this depletion opens up dangerous and deadly UV Rays from the sun will come into Earth. Air pollution causes global warming which scientist believe is making the Earth warmer and melting ice up in the South and North Pole. The country Holland has had water from the ocean got too high for them and flooded into towns. Holland spent millions of dollars to put up "dikes" which are big barriers in the water to prevent their town to be completely submerged. With the ocean getting deeper coastal cites all around the world could flood, billions of dollars would be spent to try to prevent it, but in a while it could not be stopped. Instead of waiting and having to spend all this money why don't we put it together today and try different ways of preventing air pollution, it would be much easier than all the trouble of stopping flooding. Water pollution is another major aspect ofenvironmental pollution. Water pollution is scary because over 75% of our Earth is covered by the ocean. Water pollution comes from many different sources around the world. One major pollutant that destroys the ocean is oil spills. The oil from an oil spill kills hundreds of sea animals from fish, to whales, to birds. Below is a small list of just some of the major oil spills. Notice how many tons were spilled into our ocean... Global warming is caused by human activity. This global warming in turn, causes hurricanes. The hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having less important resources such as: food, shelter and water. Having less resources could lead to poverty, which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti . There are also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean over flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on the environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people are burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath.

To avoid the problem of deforestation, people should stop cutting down the trees in the forest. The cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment. According to an article by Struck states, "Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in which forests act as Earth's lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide – the biggest contributor to climate change – and expelling oxygen" (29). This effect is causing more of the air to become contaminated by carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The trees helps keep down the carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so we can breathe clean air. As the trees are being cut in the forest it releases

People are likely to deny all the information, which they do not want to hear and to believe that it can concern anybody else but not him or her directly. The problem of climate change is not the issue that can affect the humanity in one moment in the same way smoking does not kill the smoker from the first day of addiction. However, the fact of the existence of the phenomenon remains undeniable, and every human makes his or her contribution to the development of the issue, which can be both adverse and beneficial. Although it is reasonably believed thatclimate change is affected by the use of cars, emissions from factories and the growing amount of garbage, there are hidden factors that encourage pollution and hurt the planet, including people's growing passion for traveling, and even their diets on a par with the way of life. With the flow of life, people affect the planet, which does not remain the same as it was hundreds of years ago. Different periods of history influence climate change in different ways and while sometimes it happens faster like it was with the invention of machines and their implementation to the industrial production, the other timespan demonstrates a slowed down pace. However, the fact of the influence of different kinds of pollution on the planet should be nearly the most significant concern of the humanity since it is the reason for which the future life on the

Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources. Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140 million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and...show more content... Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump freshoxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.

Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content... American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.

The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. "Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be dispersed because we have been ignorant of their value."– R. Buckminster Fuller. A bus company in Great Britain has taken this quote into full effect. The Bath Bus Company has created a first ever "Bio–Bus" and will transfer its passengers between the Bath and Bristol Airport. This 40–seat bus runs completely on biomethane gas which is generated through food waste and human waste. This bus fills two needs: transporting passengers and improving air quality. Byrecycling an undesirable product, this bus company has created something that improves their society (Pollution Control). There are many more examples of countries and communities developing a product or plan to improve the quality of their life. In fact, environmental protection has dated back to the beginning of ancient civilizations and has continued to be an important concept in today's society. George Perkins Marsh, an American diplomat and philologist, drafted a book titled Man and Nature. In his writings, he explained the downfall of many ancient civilizations was caused by environmental abuse. From deforesting hillsides to eroding their soils, many of the early civilizations destroyed their natural fertility. As we look back in history, it is important that we learn from our mistakes. The Civilian Conservation Corps, created in 1933, was developed as a public relief group, targeted for single, unemployed men. As part of FDR's

The environmental pollution history is as old as life itself. At life's beginning on Earth, man discovered the use of fire and burnt food for cooking food with the emitted smoke from it being the earliest environmental pollutants of this world. First forward to the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century and that was when the Earth experienced the highest rates of environmental pollution. After the machine invention from printing press and later motor vehicles, the pollution menace started enveloping the environment and negative effects began to be seen. The unplanned industrialization, mostly in the developed nations, stimulated its spread. Many Americans rely on ground water for drinking and, up to the few decades ago, there was careless release of industrial wastes into rivers and streams. The congress of the US passed the Clean Water Act in the 70's so as to cut down on water pollution (Library of Congress., United States., & United States, 1973).

History of Green Energy

By the 20th century, the effects environmental pollution had been felt in most countries throughout the world. This made the world's leaders to see the need of eradicating and reducing the enormous levels of pollutants flowing into Earth's eco systems. This saw the need for green energy. One of the earliest green energy (geothermal energy) is traced to the first decade of the 20th century when the idea of placing turbines over stream was discovered so as to generate electricity. Such principle has, over the years, been expanded and today there are several geothermal plants across the world which creates clean energy. Similarly, hydrokinetics has a very long history as a green energy source. It was first used in the year 200 BCE when watermills and water wheels were created. Presently, hydrokinetics is used for generation of clean energy from river and ocean currents with any harm on the natural life of aquatic animals. Wind energy also has

Earth's 2016 surface temperature was recorded as the warmest year since 1880, and 2017 is on track to be one of the three warmest years on record (NASA). The rate of climate change has been growing at alarming rates in recent years, and it is projected to continue increasing at higher rates in the near future. The negative effects of climate change are seen in the decline of human health and wildlife. While the United States government is attempting to diminish the effects of climate change, more regulations must be passed by Congress in order to minimize the pollution in the environment, decrease damage to wildlife and lower the average temperature on Earth.

The concentration of pollution on Earth is rising at alarming rates as the burning of fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase from human activities. Fossil fuels are burned to heat homes, power cars, provide electricity and in manufacturing. The high dependency on fossil fuels is increasing the rate of climate change "the industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years" (NASA). Environmental Problems: Air Pollution Essay

Introduction:

Air pollution is among the critical challenges facing modern societies and is one of the most pressing environing mental problems. Air pollution is accountable for major harmful effects on human strength, animal survives, natural ecosystems and the man–made environment. It is also responsible for climate change due to the improved greenhouse effect, acid rain, and the reduction of the ozone layer that inaugurate important global environmental problems. Air pollution occurs both outdoors and indoors and is caused by human activities and natural mechanisms. Although air quality degradation because of air pollution is a global problem that threatens humanity's wellbeing overall, it is largely associated with environmental bias....show more content...

Indoor air pollution:

Indoor air pollution mentions to the amount of chemical, biological and physical pollutants in the air confidential a building. Indoor air pollution can often be inferior to outdoor air pollution. There is a extensive range of indoor air pollutant causes in houses including building resources, hard–pressed wood goods and equipment, dominant heating and cooling systems, several individual care or household cleaning products, painting colors, solvents, heating or cooking applications (stoves, wood and gas burning fireplaces, gas fires), tobacco burn, office machineries and a diversity of other crops used in daily events. (Anastasia

In addition, outdoor pollutants are also found in indoor places, such as radon (a natural trace component of soil and ground). The main foundation of indoor air pollution is household burning of coal or biomass for cooking and warming. It is projected that more than half of the world's population trusts on animal dung, wood, crop waste, or coal to meet their most elementary energy needs. The main indoor pollutants that can almost be drawn in any home are between others formaldehyde, asbestos,

1) Introduction Nowadays there are two major problems in the world one is environmental pollution and second one is energy crisis. Global warming is one of the main anxiety of environmental pollution. Fossil fuels play main role in global warming; so we need renewable clean energy to deal with this issue. Second major issue is the energy crisis. Biological CO2 fixation and energy production are expected to be potential measures that will diminish the increase of atmospheric CO2 and help to evade future energy crises So to overcome the environmental problems we must taken following steps: Sinking the use of fossil fuels. Removing excess CO2 from the atmosphere. Capturing and sequestering the CO2 emitted by fossil fuel combustion before it enters the atmosphere. For executing these points in our life we must need biofuels. The production of fuel from photosynthetic organisms like plants and algae is a renewable process using solar energy; therefore, biofuel is a capable resource and biomass is obtained for its production is from harvesting forestry and other plant residues. Even garbage from domestic houses and food industries can also be used as starting material of oil production by thermochemical liquefaction. We focus on Get more content

Environmental pollution is described to be the contamination of the physical and biological components of the earth /atmosphere system to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected according to Kemp (1998). Wikipedia (2008) defined Pollution to be an introduction of contaminants into the environment that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or that damage the environment which can come in the form of chemical substances, or energy such as noise, heat or light. Improper handling of solid waste and indiscriminate disposal in open spaces, road margins, tank beds, and etcetera, give rise to numerous potential risks to the environment and to human health. Direct health risks mainly concern those working in the field without using proper gloves, uniforms, and etcetera; a high percentage of waste workers and individuals who live near or on disposal sites are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, worms, and related organisms (SWMM, 2000).

For the public, the main risks to health are indirect and related to poor water, land, and air quality. In addition, infrequent collection of waste provides an attractive breeding ground for flies and rats (SWMM, 2000).

The most obvious environmental damage caused by solid waste is aesthetic, i.e. waste that litter public areas is ugly and smelly. A more serious risk is the transfer of pollution to ground water and land as well as the pollution of air from improper burning of waste. Many waste activities generate greenhouse gases; e.g., landfills generate methane and refuse fleets are significant sources of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Open burning dumpsites produce volatilised heavy metals (e.g. mercury and lead), dioxins, and furan. Leachate from unlined and uncovered dumpsites contaminates surface and ground waters (Cointreau, 2006).

Pollution is the introduction of harmful or poisonous effects of a substance into the environment. It disrupts the balance of people's lifestyle when they are contaminate. Pollution balance in the environment and ecosystem. The environment is in the process of becoming unsafe or unsuitable to use. Pollution can come in many different form, such as air, water, soil can have pollutant that can wreak havoc on the environment. Pollution can be a form of anything and cause so much harm. It can take the form of chemical substances or energy. When chemicals are released by spill or underground leakage, the soil can become contaminated, which is soil pollution. The release of chemicals and particulates into the atmosphere, is the product of air pollution. The industrial wastes dumped into the rivers and other cause an imbalance in the water leading to its severe contamination and death of aquatic species. The most dangerous form of pollution is air pollution, there are many cause for it. The depletion of the ozone is due to air pollution, which is a threat to human health. Pollution has become a prevalent issue worldwide and has begun to affect the air used to breathe, the soil used to grow food, and the water used to drink. All of these effects result in commonly occurring destruction of health and wildlife that one may have seen on the news or heard from peers. In order to live, one needs food, water, clothing, and shelter. If the water and food that society consumes gets contaminated, a major component of life has been eradicated, which can only have negative consequences. If more people are educated as to what effects the environment, the world has a chance to counteract the effects of pollution. The main causes of pollution are the burning of fossil fuels such as with car exhausts, littering as a result of societal norms and laziness, and factory waste as a result of lax waste regulation, and can result in mass destruction of the environment and catastrophic effects on the everyday lives of contemporary people.

The amount of factories and industries has grown immensely through the previous years which has resulted in an expansion in the consumption of petroleum products. Innovation has begun to increase and has promoted the expansion of the production of cars. In today's society when something gets the slightest bit old, it must be thrown away and a new one replaces it. The citizens blame the government for their trash problem. The over consumers must take the blame for this situation. The last major source of pollution is in the businesses. In a few rare instances, businesses dumped their waste products into streams, lakes, or rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that does not affect most people. However, horrible consequences result every time a company pollutes a water system. Mutations and human death have occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. Illegal dumping contaminates our drinking water and soil. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem.

Despite the severity of the pollution problem, it can be solved. Individuals can do a lot to save the environment. Instead of driving, carpool with a friend or take a bus. This will not only cut down on the pollution due to cars each year, but will also save money on gas. Taking the time to sort your trash and placing it in the appropriate recycling bins can also do a lot for the environment. Recycling reduces the amount of waste piled into landfills. Also, pay attention to the products you buy and how they are packaged. Do not buyitems that will be thrown away due to lack of use.
