Lowering your appraised value will not affect the amount you can sale your home for. The selling market value of your home is determined by recent sales in your area, not by the appraisal district’s value. The assessed value appraisals are prepared exclusively for property tax purposes.

CRITICAL DATES TO WATCH 

April 1st: Last day for chief appraiser to mail notices of appraised value for single home residence homestead properties.

 May 31st: Last day for property owners to protest with Appraisal Review Board (or by 30th day after the date of the notice of appraised value is delivered, whichever is later).  October 1st: Date tax assessor mails tax bills for the year.
