welcome to 2021
I am delighted to present the Bendigo Venues & Events 2021 season program. Along with the Bendigo Venues & Events team, I am looking forward to once again offering our community an outstanding year of entertainment. While the global performing arts industry remains in crisis, Australian venues and arts centres are slowly and cautiously reopening, to invite audiences back to the theatre to experience the joy and enrichment of the performing arts. I would like to congratulate the team at Bendigo Venues & Events for their creativity and resilience during 2020, a truly extraordinary year which forced the complete reimagining of the unit’s work, to allow it to maintain connection and support for the performing arts community and audiences. I am very pleased to see current conditions allowing audiences to return to our wonderful venues, and to see such a rich and diverse range of arts and entertainment on offer in 2021. Whether it is an evening of fine music with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, a dramatic romp with Bell Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the profound beauty and power of Bangarra Dance Theatre, or the latest and greatest comedy or contemporary music concerts, I am thrilled to see such depth and scope in the 2021 Season program – and so many great performances on offer. We extend a warm invitation to our local and regional community, to (safely) join us in our remarkable performing arts spaces, to reconnect and once again delight in local and nationallyproduced art and entertainment. Mayor Cr Jennifer Alden

The Creative Communities team is responsible for cultural development on behalf of the City of Greater Bendigo. We design, develop and implement arts and cultural programs, initiatives and activities both within Bendigo Venues & Events (BV&E) venues and beyond. We support Greater Bendigo’s many and varied creative communities to drive and develop their own arts and cultural outcomes. Contact arts.info@bendigo.vic.gov.au
Our key priorities are: CREATIVE PLACE MAKING
EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT
We oversee Pennyweight Walk Open Air Gallery, Exhibit B Gallery and support the development of art in public place. We can provide advice and assist others seeking to engage and support artists.
We support our region’s youth to access a range of experiences linked to the BV&E touring program. Our aim is to provide local children with opportunities to learn, be entertained and inspired by engaging in meaningful arts experiences. With generous support from the Ulumbarra Foundation, our Education Engagement Officer can assist schools and community groups to make the most of a host of educational opportunities available throughout the year.
COMMUNITY ARTS We support artists, arts organisations, nongovernment organisations and community art groups to create and meet their own arts and cultural outcomes. Our fortnightly Arts eBulletin and regularly updated Facebook page help keep local creatives informed about all the opportunities on offer to them.
NURTURING CREATIVITY We support artists to access our venues and programs. Artists on View, RAW Arts Awards, creative careers events for students and our ever-popular Cushion Concerts are just some of the initiatives we host throughout the year. SEASON 2021 | 23
