The arena will be transformed with lights, trees, and decorations. Bring your family and enjoy the on-ice activities or warm up around the fire. Santa will stop by for a special visit and bring treats for the little ones. Event is open to ‘children’ of all ages. We’ll have arts and crafts for the kids and tons of exciting activities on the ice, including our always popular crazy carpet slide. Sit down and warm up around our on-ice fireplace. Santa Claus will stop by to say hello and give out treats to the little ones. This event is FREE but tickets are required. Tickets will be available for pick up at the Cowichan Community Centre starting November 14.

Elder College Programs
Elder College is celebrating 20 years in the Cowichan Community Centre. We invite all individuals 50 or better to join us in a program designed by you for you. Share knowledge, learn new skills, and develop yourself in a friendly and welcoming environment. Elder College features an expansive program lineup with opportunities ranging from fitness and computers through to music and outdoors. All of the programs are put on by great instructors and overseen by our committee, of which we give a heartfelt thanks to both. Please note there is an annual membership fee.
Sheila’s Upcycle into Useable Art
The goal of this course is to take items from your home or elsewhere involving fabric, wood, ceramic, metal and outdoor-specific items. Turn these items into amazing and useable art for your home or a gift and save them from being thrown out and contaminating the ‘blue and green marble’ that we live on. The instructor will provide a list of materials and session outline.

Hawk Migration from East Sooke Park
Join this field trip to East Sooke Park on southern Vancouver Island to view the gathering of turkey vultures, hawks, falcons, kestrels, harriers, osprey, and eagles before crossing Juan de Fuca Strait for their annual migration south. Please bring binoculars, warm clothing as lookout can be chilly due to cool onshore winds, water, and snacks/lunch.

Drawing Cats & Dogs
Build confidence while you explore your own style of drawing cats and dogs. Please bring a sketchbook or scrap paper; cheap promotional pens for practice (those running out of ink are ideal); black drawing pen (any smoothly flowing black ink pen will do); and LOTS of cat and dog photos (figurines are also useful). Armchair Travel: Western China
Visit the western end of the Great Wall in Gansu Province and Silk Road oases in Xinjjiang, home of the Uighurs. This presentation includes visits to the ancient Chinese capital of Xi’an, the Mogao caves at Dunhuang, an ancient Uighur capital at Turpan plus Hotan, Urumqi, Kashgar, Jiayuguan and the surrounding countryside.

Armchair Travel: Hiking in Catalonia
This wonderful hike took us from village to village through Catalonia starting in the volcanic landscapes of the Garrotxa and down to the "very" rocky headlands of the Costa Brava overlooking the Mediterranean. It was challenging and spectacular. Doing this hike during the area's separatist referendum made it that much more exciting.
