Ben and Fiona had a special friend. His name was Theo and he was very, very old. Theo lived in a house that was also very, very old.

There were lots of lovely places for Ben and Fiona to play hide and seek. ‘My favourite place to hide is in your cupboard under the stairs,’ Ben told Theo. ‘I like hiding in the big old toy box,’ Fiona whispered into Theo’s ear. ‘But our favourite place in the whole wide world,’ Fiona and Ben told Theo, ‘is in your Extra Special Things Room.’ ‘I love just looking at all your extra special things,’ said Fiona. ‘The beautiful butterfly is my absolutely best thing in that room,’ Ben added. Fiona nodded. ‘I’ve never seen anything so extra special in my whole life.’

Theo took the children into his Extra Special Things Room. Together they looked at the beautiful butterfly. She was made out of very thin glass. The maker had placed some precious, colourful jewels into her. She shone with diamonds and emeralds, rubies and pearls.

Very carefully, Theo picked her up. ‘I agree,’ he said. ‘She is my most beautiful extra special thing. I love her very much.’
