Acai is a purple plant that grows from an acai palm tree originating from Central and South America. This fruit was a staple in the Brazilian diet. The common smoothie bowl we see today began being popularized in Rio de Janeiro by one of the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Carlos Gracie, according to Tambor.
Purple bowls are all the rage
This superfruit has a taste similar to berries and chocolates. It is rich in antioxidants, protein, minerals, fiber and fats that fill you and keep you full. Here is how to bring the flavor from Brazil to your home.
ADD THESE TO THE BLENDER:
After blended, pour into a bowl and put your toppings on.
VEGAN: SWEET ACAI • Just Juice • 1 Banana sliced and frozen • 2 packets of Acai Puree • ¾ cup of Apple Juice • ½ cup Blueberries - frozen • ½ cup Strawberries - frozen NON-VEGAN: BLUEBERRY DELIGHT • 1 Banana sliced and frozen • 2 packets of Acai Puree • ½ cup of Milk • ½ cup of Yogurt • ½ cup Blueberries - frozen • ½ cup Strawberries - frozen
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS TO ADD INTO BLENDER: • 1 tablespoon of Lime Juice for a zesty zing • 2 tablespoons of Peanut Butter for some protein • ⅓ cup of Pineapple for some added sweetness
TOPPINGS: • Honey (skip if vegan) • Granola • Fresh Fruit (Strawberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Bananas, etc.) • Chia Seeds • Shredded Coconut • Chopped Dark Chocolate, or Miniature Chocolate Chips.
