AUGUST 2018
The Ark For The Animals Hello fellow wolf pack members!! Due to past and more frequent wildfires, the need for an onsite evacuation building idea has been planted, and now we are going to make it bloom. We are building a fireproof/smoke proof building for our animals. This building will be constructed of fire grade concrete block and be able to contain all of our exhibit animals, (wolves, coyote, fox and our small animals that we rehabilitate). Our domestics such as our dogs, cat, chickens, ferrets and love birds will also be included. CERTIFIED BY THE

The building will be 70’x 50’ and have 10x10 pens, a freezer for animal food operated by a generator. It will also be equipped with a medical/staff room and a section for storage. The design has been coordinated with the Teller county fire chief and our construction contractor. “The Ark” is designed with fresh oxygen and compressed air that will exit the interior building. The building will be able to sustain not only our animals from fire and smoke, but some of our key staff who will stay with the animals until the danger has passed. The purpose of this building is to save all of our animals in the event of a fire and by having it on site, it will help to eliminate the stress of moving them to another facility or our current evacuation location where the road could be closed if the fire is in the west. This project will be close to $300,000, so we need your help. We have started a Go Fund Me campaign where you can help us to pay for this much needed building. Your donation will be recognized by adding your name to “The Ark for Animals” on a name plaque.
If you make a donation to the Wolf Center, please put in the subject line: THE ARK FUND To get your name on the plaque, you will need a minimum of $25 donation. Send to: Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center PO BOX 713 Divide, CO. 80814
Construction will begin this fall. Thank you, Darlene Kobobel Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center

Sakara
We will miss you and everything about you. I will miss how when I called your name, how you would come over to me and plop over on your back and smile. You would kiss me so hard where I sometimes had to shield my teeth, but I felt honored every time.
I love you Sakara and I still see you every morning. I will never forget you and I feel blessed that I had 11 years with you. You was a strong alpha yet a kind heart. I am sure you will be a great leader in your heaven of angels.
Forever in my heart, Darlene | 4 | COLORADO WOLF AND WILDLIFE CENTER

“Celebrate Diversity”
I just want to thank everyone for giving me the experience of a lifetime and helping me with my bucket list. Please tell Navi and Tala, Thank you, for letting ME into their enclosure. They are truly beautiful majestic animals. I have been in love with wolves my whole life and it is so heart warming to know that there are others who love them just as much as myself. Thank you for all you do. Knowing that others care enough to protect them and educate others is very encouraging. You do so much good in a world that sees so little good. THANK YOU!!!!!! DUDLEY
SWEET SADIE
AGE: 5 y 3 m 3 d Male/Neutered Black/White Hound/Mix
Hello there my name is Dudley Do Right, or Dudley for short. I am new to the Colorado area and would love to go and explore the mountains with you. I have a heart of gold, and want a person to share it with. I am on my way to learning my manners but will need someone to teach me what I need to know. If you think that you would be my new adventure buddy please come into the shelter to meet me.
HOLLY BERRY AGE: 2 y 2 m Female/Spayed Black Domestic Medium Hair/Mix Hello. My name is Holly Berry. I was dropped off at a local vet’s office in pretty scary shape. They were kind enough to get me warm and then asked TCRAS if they would help me find a new home. When I first meet people I am scared and will hiss, but I am not a mean cat...I just need an adjustment period. Please come and meet me...I am looking for a patient friend.
A deputy found me in September, 2017, and brought me to the shelter. I love people but am not fond of other dogs. Once I have my human, I will be quick to please and will thrive on all that attention and positive reinforcements. I haven’t been around cats. Spayed, current on vaccinations. ~ 55 lbs. Estimated DOB 2/15/16.
BUDDY
I am Buddy, a 4 year-old shepherd mix. I was my owner’s best buddy until he died. I love to ride in the car. I watch for that open car door and jump in. I get along with other dogs, including little dogs. House trained, neutered, all vacc’s, ~ 60 pounds.
BENNY
My name is Benny and I am a one year old heeler mix but still a pup. I love to play with other dogs of my choosing. I would love to go hiking with you in the mountains and play all day. Neutered, all vacc’s.

Otto’s Story from the San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society

Otto lived at our at our shelter a long long time waiting for a home. When we rescued him he was starving and couldn’t eat because his head was covered with hundreds of porcupine quills. Dr. Deal and Carla vets who have helped the Society for years operated on him and managed to save both of his eyes - one eye was nearly pierced by quills. He recovered quickly and soon became the shelter mascot - everyone loved his enthusiasm and loving nature. He got to run loose at the shelter every day and received lots of attention, but a shelter is still not a home. We drove Otto with his shelter mates on the 3 hour trip to our Petco adoption fairs every Saturday (Otto rode in the cab with us). He loved the adoption fair Saturdays but week after week turned into month after month and no one adopted Otto. People loved him, played with him, but no one took him home. Otto doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He is a lover and so playful. Finally the best day in Otto’s life happened a couple weeks ago when Kay and her family took him home. Kay sent us pictures which brought tears to our eyes - we all miss Otto. At the same time we are overjoyed that Otto at last has a family. Kay and her family adopted Dougel, another “bully dog” from us 3 years ago. Sadly he developed heart disease and died of a stroke a few weeks ago. Kay and family were heartbroken but they said Dougel would have wanted them to save another dog. Otto is now helping them to fill the void. We thank Kay and family for all they have done for two loving Pit Bulls.
