Historically, Korea has been destroyed several times. It had to face a lot of difficulties, rebuild itself countless times and hence overcome many psychological traumas. Despite all these hardships, Korea and its inhabitants always succeeded at recovering and keeping unity through their belief in humanistic values, which has thus become part of their shared identity. We can connect this to the characteristic collective Korean feeling of 한 (Han). It represents both a silent melancholia and the power to overcome this desperation. With the following work I try to show modern Korea as a patchwork of trauma, an urbanised Korea that is endlessly recovering, looking for the right way to exist, as an independant country.
Each time I see something that makes me think of overcomsumption, gentrification, junk modernism I stop and 3D scan it. The process is simple, I take my phone and take pictures around the object I want to save. Then, the computer process them to make 3D objects.
