RIDING IS A SIGN OF LIVING WELL We believe that urban cycling is the most democratic form of riding, with the most diverse needs and inspiration. Sadly, it can also be hindered by the least amount of real innovation. As a brand created to enhance the rider’s experience, we see enormous potential to serve the diversity of urban riders with better products and ideas, and we are compelled to serve those opportunities with the same fervor that made us the world’s performance and market leader. From cruising through parks and pathways, to commuting along streets and racing in the alleyways, riding is a sign of living well and one of the best parts of a good life. And we want to stoke 18
the passion for urban riding in all of it’s forms. The Reverb™ helmet is just one example of how embracing urban riding as an inspiration point can change the form of our products. From simplifying designs while maintaining a connection to cycling forms, to creating features and applying technologies that make sense for a mobile lifestyle, we continue to focus on expanding our range of urban-inspired ride gear that is appropriate, not re-appropriated. We encourage you to learn more about our products and ride along with the friends that inspire us, like artist Chris McNally, at http://www.youtube.com/girosportdesign.

FREE SPEED FOR MORE RIDERS DESIGNING THE NEW AIR ATTACK
You can’t beat the wind. You have to meet it head-on and make it work for you in the most efficicent way possible. In a helmet design, that means using air to cool the body while simultaneously reducing aerodynamic drag in order to enhance a rider’s overall efficiency - in effect getting what we call, “free speed”. Creating helmet designs that can deliver this advantage is a game of subtleties, figuring out how materials and shapes interact with the body and the wind. While conventional timetrial and long-tailed aero helmets are aerodynamic wonders, they are impractical for daily riding and other types of races. So we set out to create a new kind of helmet that was as light, cool and comfortable as our best road helmets, with better aerodynamics and a functional style that could be used for 20
almost any kind of race or ride. A helmet that would be at home hammering off the front, yet not feel out of place when circumstances called for a less aggressive style. Enter the Air Attack™. The Air Attack is a completely new form, with a decidedly clean look and deceptively simple exterior. Its genius lies in what’s hidden: a radically new Roc Loc® Air system that enhances the helmet’s fit, comfort and cooling power to rival our most ventilated designs, without compromising aerodynamic efficiency. With the Air Attack’s unique combination of performance features, road riders, triathletes and even track riders can be faster and more efficient, without compromising on weight, comfort or versatility. It’s a revolution in helmet design, from the leader, Giro. 21

BUILDING A BETTER CYCLING SHOE WE POURED OUR HEART INTO THESE SOLES Contact matters. Your body touches the bike in only three spots. Of these, your feet drive the most power directly into your ride. What you put them in makes a difference.
that eliminated unnecessary compromises. We went through 16 iterations before we arrived at our final design. It’s true: We were a little obsessed.
From the beginning, Giro was not interested in just making another pretty-good shoe. We wanted to make something that redefined the meeting point of fit, materials and performance.
Stiff. Lightweight. Comfortable. Getting two out of three of these is difficult, but not uncommon. Combining all three is the brass ring we reached for. Our relationship with Easton® means our carbon sole takes advantage of industry-leading materials expertise, engineering power and proprietary resources—all under our own roof. And our SuperNatural footbed allows for actual, wearer-friendly customization. No ovens. No machines. Just a super-clean system to ensure your foot is supported in the shoe.
At the core of this effort is our last, the shape from which everything flows. The last determines how a shoe fits, the way materials will be developed around it, and ultimately how all the elements will combine. The last is the shoe’s heart and soul. Starting from scratch meant we could experiment, hone and refine to achieve our goals: a combination of the best elements
22
Giro footwear represents the next step forward in cycling shoes. But don’t take our word for it—step into a pair and see for yourself.

DESIGNING THE WOMENS’ SERIES PERFORMANCE MAY NOT HAVE A GENDER. BUT RIDERS DO. Designing for women is exactly the same as, yet completely different from, designing for men. We know from experience that women riders demand the same level of comfort, performance and attention to detail as men, but that they don’t want it to be dilluted with a simple pink paint job. Whether you’re an aggressive ripper on the trail, a high-cadence road climber, a dedicated commuter—or all of the above—we want you to feel one way when you’re on your bike: like yourself. Our design approach has always been focused on enhancing the rider’s experience, so when our team set its mind to creating a collection specifically for women, that was the point of view. 24
Just like with our mens’ line, nothing is added that doesn’t enhance the experience. Subtle details, from fit to finish materials to styling, are all considered together, with one goal: a sophisticated product that doesn’t sacrifice style for performance. The inspiration for our Womens’ Series™ is all around. The riders work down the hall, live across town, and race around the country and the globe. When they put on our helmets, shoes or gloves, they’re putting on something designed to deliver the highest performance possible, while still telling a story about their personal style. The result is product that feels like it was designed just for them, yet is uniquely and authentically Giro. 25

NEW COLOR SERIES:
HIGHLIGHT YELLOW MOVING BEYOND PRIMARY For years, the peloton was awash in red, black and silver, and we were too. In an effort to move ourselves forward and embrace some bold brightness, we’re offering a selection of styles in a distinctly high-visibility color we’re calling Highlight Yellow. Road, trail or street, there’s no missing it. And that’s the point. Our history is rich with bold graphic statements and strong colors. This year, we’ve focused on delivering a collection of 26
products that tells a story through its embrace of a color we first used as a detail on team helmets in the late ‘80’s. Notably, it feels just as fresh now as it did then, and we’re stoked to see how well it has translated into everything from the Aeon™ road helmet to the Stopwatch™ shoe cover to the Reverb™ helmet. It’s your ride. Make it stand out. 27

HELMETS 101
U.S. . . . . . . . . . . . CPSC and / or ASTM 1952
WHY WEAR A HELMET?
- THE INTERIOR LINER
(ASTM 1952 is specific to helmets for downhill MTB riding)
Progress. Helmets are now so light, cool and comfortable that they practically disappear when you put one on, and they are available in a variety of colors and styles for every type of rider. And since a helmet is the single most effective means of preventing and reducing the severity of cycling-related head injuries (anywhere from 45-85% of cyclist’s brain injuries) there is no good argument against wearing a helmet.
Giro helmets feature EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam liners because gram for gram, EPS is the most efficient material when it comes to absorbing impact energy and it’s relatively unaffected by temperature. The purpose of the EPS liner is to help prevent or reduce brain injury by absorbing the energy of an impact through its own compression or destruction (similar to an airbag in automobiles).
E.U. . . . . . . . . . . . CE EN-1078 AUS / NZ . . . . . . . AS / NZS 2063
HOW ARE HELMETS MADE? Most cycling helmets are made with three basic components: 1. A tough outer shell 2. An impact absorbing interior liner 3. An adjustable fit/stability system with straps
- THE STRAPS AND FIT SYSTEM Giro helmets feature tough Nylon straps and adjustable fit / stability systems that are designed to fit the helmet comfortably and securely to the wearer’s head and prevent the helmet from coming off the wearer’s head during a crash. ®
HOW DO HELMETS WORK?
- THE OUTER SHELL
OVERVIEW OF SAFETY STANDARDS
Some models use a lightweight In-Molded shell made of polycarbonate plastic; some use a hand-made fiberglass or carbon fiber shell; some use a combination of materials. But all helmet shells have the same basic mission:
Helmet standards help to govern the design and integrity of helmets so that riders get products that are well designed for the type of riding they enjoy. While the detail and methodology of helmet testing is interesting, it’s also very extensive. In general, the most important things to know are:
42
No standard is superior to the others. They all cover many aspects of a helmet’s design, performance and certification and they all have relative merit.
Continued on next page.
Proper fit is essential to a helmet’s performance. If a helmet doesn’t fit properly, it’s less effective, regardless of the standard the helmet is designed to.
WHY DOESN’T GIRO OFFER “MULTI-IMPACT” HELMETS?
With In-Mold™ helmets, like the Aeon™ and Xar™ for instance, the shell and the EPS liner are fused together with pressure and steam in a mold. With injection-molded helmets, like the Remedy™ full-face and Flak™, the shell and liner are formed separately then bonded together with adhesives. Regardless of how a helmet is made, each part of the helmet contributes to the overall effectiveness of the helmet.
- Help distribute impact energy. - Help protect against penetration by sharp objects. - Help protect the liner from abrasions and knocks during day-to-day use.
You can determine which standard a Giro helmet meets by looking at the box label and inside the helmet.
When measuring men and women’s heads, there is no significant difference in the skull shape, location of skull features or the scale of the ears, eyes and nose between men and women. Based on this finding, we do not create a unique “women’s fit” helmet. Instead, we offer a range of Womens’ Series™ helmets in multiple sizes that provide every bit of the performance and value you expect from a Giro helmet, with attention to styling and detail that women appreciate. The result is that every female rider gets a wider choice of sizes, styles and colors to choose from, so that they can get a helmet that fits, looks and feels like it was made just for them.
HELMETS
HELMETS 101
All cycling helmets should be certified to the most relevant standards for the type of riding the wearer is engaged in, and must be certified for the market they’re sold in, including:
During impact, the helmet’s EPS foam liner compresses, like an airbag, to absorb energy so that the brain doesn’t move around the inside of the skull with as much force. By absorbing this energy, a helmet reduces the likelihood of the most common brain injuries, such as concussions and hemorrhaging.
There are two reasons why we do not claim that Giro helmets are “multi-impact”: - No helmet, regardless of the liner material used, can offer unlimited multiple-accident protection. - There is no way to predict how hard you might hit your head the next time you fall. The bottom line is that if a helmet is involved in any serious impact, the chances are that any liner, including EPS, has given a part of its life to protect the wearer. That’s why it should be replaced, even if it appears undamaged.
WHAT ABOUT FIT FOR WOMEN? While it is obvious that anatomical differences between men and women can dictate different patterning and fit for many items worn on the body, the head and skull are somewhat unique.

2013 GIRO CYCLING HELMETS
HELMETS 101
A helmet must fit right and be worn properly in order to be effective. To offer the best value and fit possible, Giro makes helmets in a wide range of sizes and styles as follows: Adult Super Fit™ Sizes XL . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . L............................ M........................... S............................
61-65 cm 59-63 cm 55-59 cm 51-55 cm

Simply wrap a measuring tape around your head, keeping the tape just above your ears and keeping the tape level front to back. Once you’ve determined the proper size, you can check to make sure the helmet fits correctly. If the helmet you own now doesn’t fit on your head with just a little room between your head and the headband when the fit system is loose, you should replace it with one that does. You should always wear the helmet positioned low enough in the front to protect your forehead, but not so low that it hinders your vision. Once you’ve got a helmet that is the right size, and positioned it properly, you can adjust the fit as follows: Step 2: (Adjusting the straps) – Open the Tri Loc™ adjusters on the straps. Put the helmet on and slide the straps through the adjusters until they are located comfortably under the ears, making sure there is no slack in any of the straps. Close and lock the Tri Loc™ adjusters. The front and rear straps should now join at a point slightly below your ears.
44
Step 3: (Adjusting the chinstraps and buckle) – Fasten the chinstrap buckle and tighten the straps until the helmet fits snugly. How snugly? You should be able to open your mouth wide enough to eat. Make sure the chinstrap is well back against the throat, NOT on the point of the chin. Make sure the loose ends of the strap pass through the rubber O-ring near the buckle. If it does not, the strap may slide loose and the helmet can come off accidentally. Step 4: (Adjusting the tension of the fit and stabilizing system) – To adjust the fit and stability system while the helmet is on the wearer’s head, rotate the dial adjuster on the back of the system to tighten or loosen the fit as needed. You can adjust the fit even more on systems that use the “snap-fit” anchors by removing the helmet from the wearer’s head, unsnapping the headband from the liner and moving the arms forward to tighten the fit or backward to loosen the fit (Acu Dial™ equipped helmets do not offer this adjustment). For safety reasons, we recommend that you do not attempt to adjust the systems while you are riding. Step 5: (Adjusting the height of the fit and stabilizing system) – In addition to tension adjustment, Roc Loc™5 and Roc Loc™Air systems allow you to adjust the height of the system for optimum comfort. To adjust the height, simply slide the Roc Loc™ mechanism up or down. Experiment until you get a fit that is most comfortable.
Step 6: (Checking the fit) – Once you think a proper fit has been achieved, grab the helmet with both hands and twist lightly it to the left and right. If the helmet fits properly, the skin on the forehead will move as the helmet moves. If it does not, the helmet is too loose. Also, grab the helmet with both hands and try to remove it by rolling the helmet forward and backward. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you can roll it off the head completely, roll it forward so far that it blocks vision, or backward far enough to expose the forehead, it doesn’t fit correctly. If you cannot adjust the helmet to fit properly according to these instructions, DO NOT USE THIS HELMET. Replace it with a different size or model. Once you are satisfied that the helmet fits correctly and that all straps are properly adjusted and tightened, take a short test ride. Pay attention to overall comfort and helmet stability while riding. Make any minor adjustments to improve comfort and stability. If you have questions about fit, call our Consumer Service group at (800) 456-2355 or e-mail us at feedback@giro.com.
HELMET CARE GUIDELINES - CLEANING HELMETS Helmets are made of materials that can be damaged by many common cleaners. Petroleum-based solvents or cleaners are especially dangerous. For best results, clean the helmet using a soft cloth or sponge, warm water and mild soap (such as a mild dish soap). - STORING HELMETS Excessive heat can damage the helmet (Heat damaged helmets will appear to have uneven or bubbly surfaces). After each use allow the helmet to air dry and then store in a cool, dry place. If you have any questions as to the condition of a helmet please call us for information or to set up a free inspection.
HELMET REPLACEMENT & WARRANTY - WHAT IF A HELMET BECOMES DAMAGED? Helmets don’t last forever. If the helmet is visibly damaged (cracked outer shell, crushed or cracked foam liner or any other damage) don’t use it. Some or all of the helmet’s protective capacity is used up when impacted. Damage to a helmet is not always visible. If you have any questions about the condition of a helmet call us for information.
HELMETS
HOW TO GET A GREAT FIT
- HOW OFTEN SHOULD A HELMET BE REPLACED UNDER NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR? Giro has a general recommendation of replacing a helmet every three (3) years. SUPER FIT ENGINEERING
WOMENS’ SERIES
Our proprietary Super Fit™ sizing system is based on “human scale factors” data and over 20 years of handcrafting helmets to fit the best bike riders in the world. By creating helmets in up to 4 sizes to fit snugly and securely while also matching the human body’s form, our Super Fit™ sizes comfortably fit up to 98% of riders, yet look (and fit) like they are custom made just for you.
The Womens’ Series™ is a diverse collection of helmet styles, fits and prices tailored to the demands of female riders. While the level of detail and range of colors is unique within the Womens’ Series helmets, they do not feature a unique “women’s fit”. That’s because there is no anatomic difference between women and men’s heads except for the average skull diameter measurement. And since Giro helmet sizes cover 98% of the human population, we believe the Womens’ Series offers more options to women than any other brand.
UNIVERSAL FIT SIZING
HELMETS
2013 CYCLING HELMET TECHNOLOGY
X-STATIC® PADDING
Our Universal Fit™ helmets are sculpted to look good and fit great for almost anyone on the first try. By developing proprietary shell sizes based on specific customer groups, and combining them with an easily-adjustable fit system, it’s easy for you get the right fit, straight out of the box, without the hassle or expense of trying multiple sizes.
X-Static padding contains a fiber made with layers of pure silver that is permanently woven into the fabric. Silver has 100% natural antimicrobial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your helmet stays fresh and comfortable, naturally.
ROC LOC AIR FIT SYSTEM
ONE STEP FIT SYSTEM
This revolutionary fit system adds a new dimension to helmet performance by enhancing cooling, as well as fit comfort and stability. Using a patented design that suspends the helmet just slightly off the top of the skull, Roc Loc® allows cool airflow to pass directly over your head, further enhancing the performance of vents and internal channeling that exhaust heat out of the helmet. Fit and feel adjustments mimic the Roc Loc® 5, allowing you to easily custom tune fit tension and fore-aft tilt of the helmet in seconds using a single hand. It’s the new standard in cool comfort.
One-Step™ is a self-adjusting fit system developed with years of research into anatomic data, and designed to take the hassle out of fitting kids’ helmets. By combining a supple, elastic fit band with fixed-position straps, it automatically adjusts to fit the child, and helps to keep the helmet positioned properly. Flashing LED taillights are integrated into the rear of the system for enhanced visibility, too!
FIT KIT ROC LOC 5 FIT SYSTEM The industry benchmark in comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. In addition to enhancing the fit and comfort of helmets, Roc Loc® 5 allows you to easily custom tune the fit tension and the fore-aft tilt of the helmet in seconds using a single hand. And it’s almost 40% lighter than comparable systems too, making it the ultimate in skull-hugging luxury.
ROC LOC TT FIT SYSTEM When every second counts, Roc Loc® TT system offers a faster fit to speed you through transitions. The set-and-forget positioning feature creates a self-adjusting fit with secure feel, and helps to improve aerodynamics by allowing back of the helmet to be closed off to the wind. So you go faster without any hassles or compromises.
ACU DIAL FIT SYSTEM The original Acu Dial™ system combines the ease of single-handed fit tension adjustment with a full 360° fit band for a quick, stable fit in our line of Universal Fit™ helmets. It’s also ponytail-compatible, for riders with longer hair.
Our Fit Kit™ pad system allows you to adjust the fit of your helmet in just a few seconds, without any tools. Simply choose the best combination of fit pads from the assortment supplied with the helmet, and swap them out to optimize comfort and stability. It’s fast, easy and allows you to customize the fit of the helmet without hassles.
IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION The In-Mold construction process permanently fuses a light-yet-durable outer shell with the helmet’s impact-absorbing EPS foam liner, enhancing the strength of both parts. This fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, creating a one-piece ‘exoskeleton’ that allows the helmet to be lighter, more durable, and better ventilated than helmets with shells that are fastened or adhered to the liner.
HARD SHELL CONSTRUCTION Hard shell construction is the traditional method of combining a durable, molded outer shell with an impact-absorbing EPS foam liner. By molding the shell separately from the helmet’s liner we can optimize the shell material, thickness and finish to create helmets that are tough yet stylish, and ideally suited to the style of riding they’re built for.
P.O.V. VISOR Point Of View™ visors are anchored by a patented internal clutch mechanism that allows 15-degrees of tool-free, on-the-fly vertical adjustment while preventing the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough and technical terrain. They’re also easily removed without tools.
ACU DIAL 2 FIT SYSTEM The Acu Dial™ 2 system combines the convenience of single-handed fit tension adjustment with vertical positioning adjustment and multiple fit belt anchor points, providing a wider, and finer range of adjustment for maximum comfort. It’s also ponytailcompatible, for riders with longer hair.
IN FORM FIT SYSTEM The In Form™ system is a low-profile fit and stability system that makes it easy to dial-in the fit and feel of your helmet in seconds – even with gloves on. An ergo-friendly dial at the base of the helmet provides up to 6 cm of fit adjustment, and the system also includes a separate vertical turning feature that adjusts the fore / aft tilt of the helmet on your head to enhance peripheral vision and optimize the fit of the helmet with goggles.
AUTO LOC FIT SYSTEM Auto Loc™ is a simple, durable self-adjusting fit system designed to take the hassle out of fitting and wearing a helmet. By combining a supple elastic fit band at the back of the helmet with fixed-position straps, it automatically adjusts to cradle your head once you set the system to one of the three different circumference settings.
46
WIND TUNNEL VENTILATION Giro helmets are developed utilizing our proprietary Wind Tunnel™ ventilation system. This elaborate design combines active vents in the helmet’s shell with exhaust channels inside the helmet that thrust fresh, cool air over and around the rider’s head while forcing heat and stale air out. It’s the most effective cooling system available, and a difference you can feel every time you ride.
ROLL CAGE REINFORCEMENT Roll Cage™ is a light-yet-tough web of reinforcement invisibly molded inside a helmet’s EPS foam liner. It helps the helmet to hold together under impact, and provides an extra measure of strength and integrity that you’ll never notice…unless you need it.
THERMOFORMED SL ROLL CAGE The Thermoformed SL Roll Cage™ is an ultra light polycarbonate skeleton fused into a helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. Visible on the bridges between vents, this layer of armor acts like a second shell, enhancing structural support, impact dispersion and penetration resistance while allowing us to carve the biggest vents possible without compromising the helmet’s strength or integrity.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT GIRO GLOVES? Every rider benefits when equipment fits and feels like a part of them. With innovations like our unique 3-panel palm design and better materials like Technogel®, Pittards® leathers and Poron® XRD™ armoring, Giro’s range of road, dirt, winter and recreational gloves provides enhanced comfort and control that you can feel, every time you ride. Giro gloves are based on our proprietary Super Fit™ Engineering process that combines research data on human anatomy with hand-crafted refinements and a “tailored” construction. The result is a snug, near-custom feel with the support of modern materials that improve comfort and control on the bike. We offer gloves in a full range of up to 6 unisex sizes, women’s sizes, and sizes for kids under 12, so that almost any rider can find a glove that fits and feels like a part of them.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S HANDS? Women’s hands typically have a smaller palm girth and width, smaller wrist diameter and narrower fingers when compared to men’s hands.
HOW DOES GIRO’S FIT COMPARE TO OTHER BRANDS? Giro cycling gloves offer a more precise fit–one that is snug and supportive without excess material that can bunch or wrinkle. Therefore, some riders will size up in a Giro glove compared to other brands.
HOW TO GET THE CORRECT GLOVE SIZE. Giro Gloves are available in unisex and women’s sizes that are tailored to the needs of cyclists. To determine your glove size, wrap a measuring tape around your dominant hand, just below your knuckles (excluding your thumb), and make a fist. This measurement is your “hand width” glove size. Since every hand is unique, use the chart below as a guide, but allow for some variance based on how the glove fits!
132
Also note that some Giro glove models have a slightly more “snug” fit when new, so you may need to size up from the size you usually wear or allow them some time to “break-in” for a perfect fit. DO ALL GIRO GLOVES FIT THE SAME? Since our full glove line covers so many different needs and conditions, we may make adjustments to some patterns in order to create the best glove possible for each type of use or conditions. While we strive for the most consistent feel possible, this means that certain gloves may feel different than others. For instance, leather gloves will stretch and “break-in” with time and use, so they may feel snug when new compared to similar synthetic glove designs. Also, winter gloves are designed to have a little more interior volume in order to trap heat, so they may feel roomier than a comparable mountain bike or long-finger road glove.
HOW SHOULD I CLEAN GLOVES?
The human hand is an amazingly dynamic instrument, with strength and dexterity that is essential to a rider’s control of a bike’s handling, shifting and braking. Our 3-panel design tailors the palm of the glove to better fit the contours and articulation of the hand, and optimizes the location of padding, material and seams to enhance your comfort, grip and control of the bike.
Giro gloves are made of high-performance materials that can be damaged by many common cleaners, especially petroleum-based solvents or cleaners and washing equipment. So we recommend the following methods for cleaning, storing and caring for your gloves:
FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF GIRO 3-PANEL PALM:
CLEANING SYNTHETIC GLOVES
- Proprietary unisex, women’s and kids’ sizes are designed specifically for cycling, to conform to the hand naturally when gripping a handlebar without binding or excess bunching. - Tailored 3-panel palm construction orients fabric and padding more precisely, optimizing comfort and performance for maximum control.
For best results, clean the gloves using lukewarm water and a mild liquid soap or cleaner, and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. When almost dry, you can put the gloves on to give them shape.
CLEANING LEATHER / LEATHER PALM GLOVES WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN LEATHER AND SYNTHETIC GLOVES? Giro makes gloves in many configurations including classic all-leather designs, modern synthetic/natural hybrids and all-synthetic designs. Each glove is designed as a system to provide the best fit, comfort and performance from the materials used, and to provide the best coverage and control for the type of riding. - Natural leathers provide a very supple feel and aesthetic, with the ability to break-in and form to the rider’s body. With proper care, they can also be durable enough to last several seasons. - Synthetic gloves provide a supple feel and modern aesthetic, with the ability to breathe, stretch and conform to the rider’s body across a wide range of conditions. They are very durable, and require less attentive care than natural leathers. - Hybrid designs, with a natural leather palm and synthetic upper, combine the best attributes of both materials. They are light, supple and breathable, with the ability to break-in and conform to the body. - Winter gloves generally use synthetic materials to resist the elements and harsh conditions of winter riding, while insulating the body from cold and wet. We use modern insulating materials, including synthetic insulation and wool-blend removable liners where appropriate, to provide the best comfort and performance possible.
For gloves with leather, extra care will help to extend the life of the glove, and a good leather conditioner can help to keep the leather supple since washing can damage it. STEP1: Use lukewarm water and mild soap to gently wash the glove (you can wear the glove while washing to help maintain the glove’s shape) STEP 2: Gently pat dry with a towel to remove excess water STEP 3: You can put the gloves on to give them shape, and then gently remove them. Make sure they are laid flat. STEP 4: Hang to air dry away from heat or direct sunlight STEP 5: When almost dry, you can put the gloves on to give them shape. You can also gently rub a good leather conditioner into the leather to help keep it supple Note: Never dry clean, bleach or tumble dry!
PROPERLY STORING GLOVES After each use remove the gloves carefully, lay them flat, and allow the gloves to air dry in an open area. Then store in a cool, dry place. Note: We strongly discourage leaving used gloves in damp, enclosed spaces (like the bottom of a gear bag) since that can inhibit proper drying and cause the leathers or other materials to become stiff or brittle.

WHY DOES GIRO USE A 3-PANEL PALM?
2013 CYCLING GLOVE TECHNOLOGY
SUPER FIT ENGINEERING Super Fit™ Engineering is a proprietary process that guides the fit, design and patterning of every Giro glove for maximum comfort and performance. By carefully tailoring the palm, fingers and padding zones to match the shape and size of the hand, Super Fit™ reduces bunching and discomfort while enhancing grip, bar feel and the effectiveness of the padding.
THREE-PIECE PALM CONSTRUCTION Our unique 3-piece palm construction tailors the fit of our gloves to reduce bunching, and allows your hands to move naturally for enhanced control that doesn’t compromise bar feel. By designing each part of the palm to mimic a hand’s features and articulation, Giro gloves increase grip and provide a superior level of protection for the entire hand.
HIPORA HIPORA® barriers are made of a waterproof film with polyurethane coating and numerous micro pores which block water from the outside, yet allow the moisture generated by the body to exit. Glove liners made with HIPORA® are waterproof, windproof and breathable all at the same time, and will keep hands dry and comfortable when the weather demands it.
PERTEX Pertex© Shield provides the perfect balance of waterproofness and breathability, with wind- and water- repellency and flexibility in a light weight material. The fabric combines advanced face fabric technology with a proprietary polyurethane film laminate that reduces internal condensation and increases comfort range. It’s also durable, making it a great choice for riding when the weather turns tough.
MERINO PERFORM Select Giro gloves feature Pittards® leathers, including Cabretta (hairsheep) leather chosen for its thin-but-tough structure. Pittards® leathers undergo a special tanning process that helps the leather to absorb less water and resist sweat better than other leathers and synthetics. In addition to outstanding performance, no other material provides the fit and comfort of natural leather; it is a difference you will feel the moment you try on a pair of Giro gloves.
Merino Perform™ Advantage combines the unique, high-performance structure of Australian Merino with synthetics to create modern, lightweight fabrics. The performance benefits of this bi-component structure are enhanced moisture wicking, enhanced cooling, and greater durability with higher tension strength. The unique combination of wool and synthetics in Merino Perform™ Advantage helps to regulate body temperature and enhance comfort, so you can perform at your best.
GLOVES
PITTARDS LEATHER
TECHNOGEL CLARINO MICROFIBER Select Giro gloves feature Clarino™ microfiber which mimics the complex structure of natural leather’s supple feel with enhanced weather resistance and everyday durability. In addition to outstanding performance, Clarino™ is easy to care for, breathable, and remains soft and flexible even in cold and wet conditions, which makes it a great value as well.
Technogel® is a proprietary polyurethane cushioning material originally designed for medical applications. It is unique because it molds itself to the body along all three axes to distribute pressure, while traditional gel padding materials tend to deform along only one axis, which causes pressure to accumulate. In addition to superior pressure distribution (up to 300% better than standard gel) it also absorbs up to 30% more impact energy, and it does not harden or break down over time.
PORON XRD
AX SUEDE Giro gloves feature AX Suede™ microfiber with a supple feel and the durability to be worn every day. In addition to great feel and comfort that mimics natural suede, AX Suede™ is easy to care for, breathable, and remains soft and flexible even in cold and wet conditions, which makes it a great value as well.
COOLSKIN MICROFIBER “CoolSkin” is an exceptionally lightweight, vented fabric used in the palm of our LTZ and Rivet cloves. Along with unsurpassed airflow and breathability, it retains good structure and durability to make a lighter, cooler glove with great feel. It’s the closest you can get to a true “second skin”.
Poron® XRD™ is a soft, shock-absorbing material specifically engineered to absorb up to 90% of impact energy, without a loss of performance from repeated impacts. Using “intelligent molecules”, Poron® XRD™ remains supple and flexible until impacted, when the molecules lock together immediately to deflect and help absorb shock. Other benefits include “open cell, breathable” performance with antifungal properties, and no latex, PVCs, VOCs, or heavy metals.
TOUCHSCREEN TECHNOLOGY Capacitive touchscreens found on most mobile devices like iPhone react to natural bioelectricity in your skin. By combining a conductive fiber into the fingertips of select Giro gloves, you can stay connected to your mobile device without removing your gloves.
WOMEN’S SERIES The Women’s Series™ is a diverse collection of styles, fits and prices tailored to the tastes and needs of female riders. Not only is the level of detail and range of colors unique within the Women’s Series gloves, but they also feature female-specific sizing and patterning. That’s because most women’s hands have less volume, a narrower palm and finger lengths that differ from men’s hands.
THINSULATE XT-S Select Giro winter gloves feature Thinsulate™ XT-S insulation for exceptional warmth and comfort, with X-Static® anti-microbial properties that help to control bacteria and odor. We use more insulation in the top of the gloves to provide warmth from the elements, and a little less in the palm to maintain grip and bar feel without compromising comfort.
134
FLEX ZONES Flex Zones™ are carefully integrated into select Giro full-finger glove patterns in order to allow the glove to mimic the hand’s natural articulation without bunching or binding. The result is a glove with a lighter, more natural feel that enhances comfort and control.

If you are experiencing any lateral (on the outside edge of your feet away from the center) discomfort or pain, try a lower arch support. If you are experiencing cramping or hot spots under the feet, try a higher arch support. Once you’ve set the arches to your preferred level of support, we recommend that you take the extra arch supports along on a test ride, just in case you want to make changes once you’re on the bike. Of course, you should always consult with your local bicycle fit expert to tune your fit for maximum comfort and performance, especially if you experience any significant or consistent pain while riding.
WHAT ARE VALGUS (PRONATION) AND VARUS (SUPINATION), AND HOW DO THEY AFFECT PEDALING COMFORT AND EFFICIENCY? Valgus is the tendency of the foot to lean inward at the ankle. Varus is the tendency of the foot to roll outward at the ankle. Either of these tendencies can cause aches and pain in the forefoot and arch, and in some cases negatively affect a rider’s pedaling comfort and efficiency. All Giro footwear provides the capability for you to adjust or replace footbeds, and to work with a properly-trained fitter to make adjustments that will enhance your comfort and performance if needed.
ARE GIRO SHOES HEAT-MOLDABLE? No. Every Giro shoe is made with a premium quality microfiber upper that hugs the foot naturally and is supple enough to wrap to the contours of your foot for a supportive, precise fit without heating.
WILL GIRO SHOES WORK WITH CUSTOM ORTHOTICS? Every Giro shoe is made to accommodate a wide variety of footbeds, as well as internal and external wedge adjustments and many custom needs including some custom orthotics. That said, orthotics vary widely, and we cannot guarantee a good fit. We recommend that you consult with your orthopedist or a fit expert to evaluate the fit and options.

OUTSOLE TECHNOLOGY - WHY DOES GIRO USE EASTON® COMPOSITE OUTSOLE PLATES? The outsole is where human power is transformed to forward motion through the pedal. With the foot acting as a lever during the pedal stroke, it is important to have a stiff plate to maximize power transfer and minimize energy loss. The engineers at Easton have unique capabilities to design, engineer and test materials, including their own proprietary composites, at their industry-leading facilities. By working closely with Easton, we were able to create proprietary outsoles that maintain an optimal stiffness profile while minimizing weight and stack height, which can improve performance and efficiency without compromising comfort.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF GIRO’S EXCLUSIVE EASTON OUTSOLES -
Proprietary design is optimized to match our last, for a better fit to the shoe and your foot
-
Engineered to enhance stiffness exactly where you need it, while minimizing weight where you don’t want it
-
A “flat edge” profile doesn’t wrap up against the foot, so the supple shoe upper can contour to the foot with a precise, natural feel that doesn’t pinch or bind.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE OUTSOLES? -
-
-
-
EC90 SLX is 100% unidirectional carbon with highmodulus fibers. It is our lightest, highest level of perfor mance and also features titanium cleat hardware inserts. EC90 is made of 100% unidirectional carbon. It is very light, with superb performance that benefits racers and enthusiast riders. EC70 carbon composite outsoles are a blend of carbon and fiberglass. They are light and stiff with performance and value that exceeds many carbon outsoles. DuPont® Zytel™ is made of a special nylon composite that is stiffer and more durable that traditional nylons used in shoes. Our Zytel soles are not as stiff as our premium composite outsoles, but they offer class-leading performance and weight compared to other nylon soles.
DOES GIRO OFFER A SPEEDPLAY™-SPECIFIC OUTSOLE DRILLING? No, but Speedplay’s adapters are compatible with Giro shoes. Our road shoes feature a standard 3-hole drilling, while our mountain shoes utilize the standard 2-bolt drilling for mountain bike cleats..
DOES GIRO OFFER REPLACEMENT LUGS OR WALKING PADS FOR THEIR SHOES? No, at this time we do not have a replaceable lug or walking pad design for Giro shoes.
DOES GIRO OFFER REPLACEMENT TOE SPIKES? Yes. The Code™ model shoe ships with toe spikes, and they are replaceable as well. All Giro shoes that are toe-spike compatible use the same toe spike.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE - WHAT IS RECOMMENDED TO CARE AND MAINTAIN GIRO FOOTWEAR? When properly cared for, your new Giro cycling shoes will offer many miles of performance. -
To clean shoes, hand wash with mild soap and hang dry.
-
Do not wash shoes in a washing machine.
-
Optimized materials and layups provide best-in-class performance and durability
-
Do not clean shoes using strong detergents or abrasive pads or brushes.
-
Very thin 6.5 mm stack height maintains a natural feel with the bike, and a direct connection with the pedal for maximum efficiency
-
Do not expose shoes to extreme heat. Using a heater, radiator, campfire, blow dryer or other heat source to dry your shoes can damage them and void warranty.
-
If shoes become wet, you can stuff them with newspaper to help absorb moisture and maintain shape.
In most cases newspaper will dry wet shoes overnight.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING COMFORT
FOOTWEAR 101
2013 CYCLING HELMET TECHNOLOGY
PRECISION FIT Giro footwear is built on proprietary cycling-specific lasts to create a fit that hugs the foot closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. Our lasts are hand-crafted specifically for cycling footwear in whole and half-sizes that are differentiated between men’s and women’s shoes, in order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible in a production shoe.
HIGH-VOLUME FIT Giro “HV” footwear is built on proprietary, cycling-specific lasts that are specially designed to create a fit that hugs wider or higher-volume feet closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. In order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible, our HV lasts are hand-crafted in whole and half-sizes too, so you get the best fit possible in a production shoe. Giro HV fit is recommended for widths from D-EE, and is an option for feet with very high instep.
NEUTRAL PLATFORM The term Neutral Platform means that there is no tilt or permanent adjustment built-in to our shoes. By maintaining a neutral platform, riders who require wedges or other adjustments are free to choose from a variety of systems that best meet their needs over time, without having to compensate for unnecessary or improper adjustments that can compromise the fit or performance of their shoes, or cause stress to muscles or joints.
WOMEN’S SERIES The Women’s Series™ is a complete collection of fits, styles and prices that are uniquely tailored to female riders. Each Women’s Series shoe is available with a level of detail that is unique within the line, and also features specific sizing and patterning in order to support the lower volume and narrower heel of a woman’s foot. The one thing that isn’t different is the level of performance since we use the same top-quality materials and technologies found in our premium men’s shoes. All together, we believe the Women’s Series offers a range of options that suit nearly any need, and with more compelling styles than competing brands.
TEIJIN® MICROFIBER Teijin microfiber is widely considered to be the world’s finest synthetic leather. Made in Japan and engineered to provide the same supple feel of the finest natural leathers, it is durable and breathable yet resists moisture, stretching and discoloration that can degrade the fit and feel of shoes over time. It is also available in a wide range of thicknesses and densities that can be optimized to enhance the feel and performance of premium shoes.
DUPONT® The Giro SuperNatural Fit System combines a cycling-specific footbed with an adjustable arch support kit. The system was developed with input from riders and cycling biomechanics experts, including Retül, the fitter of choice for teams like GarminCervelo® and RadioShack®, among others. By simply choosing from any of the Low, Medium and High arch supports included in the kit, riders and fitters can independently adjust arch support to enhance fit and pedaling efficiency while reducing or eliminating common discomforts like hotspots, numbness and cramping. The system is available in men’s and women’s sizes, and incorporates X-Static® fibers in the footbed to fight odors and other bacteria.
CARBON FIBER We use carbon fiber and carbon composites in Giro footwear because they provide exceptional performance that can be tuned to maximize stiffness, tensile strength, weight and form. While many companies utilize this cutting-edge material, we have the added advantage of having Easton® engineering expertise to further enhance the capabilities of this wonder material, allowing us to create thinner, lighter and stronger components.
SONIC WELDED ARMOR Sonic welding is a process that uses sonic waves and pressure to fuse two elements together permanently. Utilizing this process to add a layer of armor to soft fabrics results in a more durable bond that is also cleaner and more accurate than traditional adhesives, and lighter too.
EASTON® ENGINEERED OUTSOLE PLATES
AEGIS® MICROBE SHIELD The Aegis Microbe Shield is an anti-microbial barrier that permanently bonded with the fabric. It uses the power of a tiny positive electrical charge to inhibit the presence of odor-causing microbes that can cause odor, discoloring or fading, so your shoes stay fresh and odor-free.
X-STATIC® FIBERS X-Static fibers are made with layers of pure silver that are permanently bonded to the surface of the fabric. Silver offers 100% natural anti-microbial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your feet stay fresh and comfortable, naturally.
PORON® XRD™
We worked closely with the engineering staff at Easton to develop proprietary outsoles that provide the most direct, powerful connection to the pedals without compromising comfort. Using advanced modeling and proprietary fixturing in our extensive test lab, every outsole is engineered to provide ideal stiffness in 3 zones: Toe, Arch, and Heel, while maintaining the lowest possible weight and stack-height (as low as 6.5mm). Additionally, the flatter edges of our outsoles allow the shoe upper material to conform to larger or wider feet (what we call the “spillover” effect) without uncomfortable pinching or binding.
Poron XRD is a soft, shock-absorbing material specifically engineered to absorb up to 90% of impact energy, without a loss of performance from repeated impacts.
RETÜL™
VIBRAM®
Retül is the bike fit system of choice for many elite riders, amateur racers and cycling enthusiasts because it utilizes complete 3-D data analysis to optimize a riders’ biomechanics. Retül’s data-driven approach provides fit technicians with important information that ensures proper positioning of the connection points to the bicycle: shoes, saddle, and handlebars. This type of fit provides riders with the confidence that their equipment is set-up to provide optimal performance, with minimal risk of injury. That’s why we recommend Retül for bike fit and biomechanics advice.
