Academic facilities The Hixson-Lied Student Success Center (pictured) was opened in 2007. It includes space for academic tutors, a resource library, computer labs and study rooms. The Rod & Connie French Athletics Academic Center (second floor of the facility) is dedicated for student-athlete use only. It is conveniently located for easy access.

Centralized location Iowa State is located minutes from an interstate exchange meaning that it is less than a day’s drive from Minneapolis (204 miles), Kansas City (208), Omaha (131), St. Louis (295), Milwaukee (290) or Chicago (307). The state capital -- Des Moines (pictured) -- is 30 minutes from central campus. Located in the heart of the midwest, Ames boasts of a small-town charm with large city amenities nearby.

Postseason Success • Iowa State is just one of seven teams to advance to the NCAA Regional Semifinal in five of the last six seasons. • The Cyclones hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012 and are 6-0 at home in tournament play.

• The Cyclones advanced to the NCAA Regional Final in both 2008 and 2011. • Cyclones Kristen Hahn, Victoria Hurtt and Carly Jenson were all named to the 2011 NCAA Tournament All-Region Team in Minneapolis, Minn.

Hilton Magic • Iowa State’s rapidly growing fan base is among the nation’s best. The Cyclones ranked 11th in the nation in attendance in 2012 with an average crowd of 2,532 at Hilton Coliseum • Against Nebraska in 2009, Iowa State drew a schoolrecord 10,203 fans for the Big 12 match. • Matches against No. 3 Texas (4,396), No. 1 Nebraska (3,385) and Texas Tech (3,311) in 2012 drew crowds ranking in the top-10 all-time for the Cyclones.
Hilton Magic • Iowa State also created a student group in 2009, the CYd-Out Crew. The group has over 800 members and provides great support at ISU home matches. • In 2012, the Cyclones set a record at Hilton, selling 1,074 season tickets. • On Sept. 15, 2012, the Cyclones defeated No. 1 Nebraska for the program’s first-ever win over a top-ranked team.
Elite Competition • A member of the Big 12 Conference, Iowa State faces top-25 teams every year as the league has had three teams finish in the top-25 in each year and a total of 67 top 25 finishes all-time. • The Cyclones have been ranked since Dec. 23, 2008, peaking at No. 5 on Nov. 30, 2009. The team was ranked 14th at the end of the 2012 season.
Elite Competition • Iowa State has played at least seven matches against ranked foes since 2003, including 13 in 2012. • In 2012, the Cyclones set a record with 13 wins over top25 teams. • Since 2005, Iowa State has eight victories against top10 programs, four over top-5 teams and one against the No. 1 team in the country (Nebraska, 2012)
First-Class Facilities • Hilton Coliseum is home to the Cyclone basketball, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling teams and has hosted several NCAA events and countless numbers of memorable moments in Iowa State athletics history. • For volleyball, Hilton has a capacity of 8,524. • The record crowd of 10,203 for the Cyclones’ match against Nebraska in 2009 is a state of Iowa record.
First-Class Facilities • Following the August 2010 flood, Iowa State updated its volleyball facilities, including state-of-the-art locker and team rooms. • The volleyball coaches’ offices have also been revamped, further raising the bar for volleyball athletic facilities.
Academic Success • Since the creation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996, Iowa State volleyball players have earned 76 Academic All-Big 12 awards, including 54 first-team honors. • In program history, 11 players have received 17 academic alldistrict honors. • Kirsten Hugdahl (1994, 1995) and Jamie Straube (2012) are the only Cyclones to earn national academic all-America standing.
The Christy Johnson-Lynch Effect • When Christy Johnson-Lynch arrived in Ames in 2005, she took on a program that was 13-167 in Big 12 play (1996-2004) and had suffered nine-straight losing seasons. Since the 2005 season, Johnson-Lynch has turned Iowa State volleyball into a national powerhouse, racking up wins, awards and top-flight recruits. Here is a short list of the Cyclones’ accomplishments under Johnson-Lynch:: • Seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances • Five NCAA Regional appearances (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012) • Two NCAA Regional Semifinal appearances (2008, 2012) • 11 AVCA All-America honors • 17 All-Big 12 first team members • Five-straight Big 12 Libero of the Year awards • Eight Big 12 individual awards, including 2009 Big 12 Coach of the Year • 29 first team Academic All-Big 12 selections • 11 Academic All-District awards • One Academic All-American
