Changes at Cygnus in 2024
When we took over running Cygnus we did so with a sense of pride and knowing that we had a responsibility to our members and those who have found the book club to be a source of emotional and spiritual inspiration.
That responsibility is something that we still feel and wish to honour today, nine years on. However, over recent years the financial costs of printing and distributing the Cygnus Review have risen and that has impacted on us as a business.
So, I’m sad to say that this will be the last issue of the Cygnus Review as a standalone physical magazine and moving forward we will be printing the review as an extra section in the Watkins Mind Body Spirit Magazine. This will be sent to our members as normal each quarter. We’ll also be making it easy to find in the magazine so readers can jump straight to the Review, before enjoying the rest of the magazine.
Though how we print the magazine is changing, what will be staying the same are the wonderful reviews and recommendations, all still written by Adam, as well as our fantastic discounts on inspiring books.
For our mailing list and digital supporters, a standalone digital edition of the Cygnus Review will be made available and shared each quarter.
We do recognise that this will be a big change, but we are committed to doing everything we can to keep our Cygnus community and the Cygnus Review alive and able to offer its unique selection of books to our members for as long as we can.

Cygnus Past and Present
This feels like the end of an era with Cygnus, but it’s also the start of a new one. How it pans out is up to all of us. Cygnus has always had a precarious existence. I used to know it from the other side when I worked for various publishers and I would meet with Ann and Geoff about stock levels and discounts. It has never made much money for anybody (and of course it was never, ever about the money) but it’s been love that has kept it alive. That love has expressed itself on a daily basis through dedication, kindness and commitment.
Truthfully people just don’t seem to order so many books and products anymore. There are all sorts of possible reasons and it’s negative in the end to go into all that. No one is perfect! I suspect it’s financial pressure because people don’t have enough money. Memberships have remained strong though and that’s heartening, because it shows that people still believe in the project. That’s the main thing for me.
I have included one of Ann’s last letters in this edition. She was inspirational and special, and I have her as strongly in my heart now as I always have. I have edited her letter ever so slightly, just for space. I want
to stress that she did work hard against the cancer she had and that it was in the end an infection that ended her life here. She really did the work she describes with the cancer to diminish its strength. Ann will always be an inspiration to me and I know to many of us.
On a personal level these last few months have been difficult. I have lost both my parents and been diagnosed with a challenging illness. This has become a major turningpoint and I can’t deny that these new Cygnus changes have had an impact on that as well. Many issues have come home to roost, just as we should expect them to do. I am fortunate, I have the security and time to let everything unfold and I know it will for the best. We all have to put up with bumpy rides from time to time.
This has been a hard letter to write because I feel disappointed and sad to witness this happening. I know how much Cygnus means to a lot of people and right now it’s been pruned back a bit. But that’s all – just pruned back. For example, it used to come out every month. There used to be a Cygnus shop, so there have always been plenty of changes during its long history. It’s up to all of you to attend to it and restore it into a new, different life, and it’s the same for me as well. We all appreciate the important power and significance of Cygnus and that doesn’t have to be affected at all by this fresh reinvention.
I was inspired this morning walking into the office by that great song by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes from 1975 – Wake Up Everybody. It’s a classic call for people to work together and make the world a better place, through individual practical effort. You used to get lots of songs like that in those days when it seemed everyone was more idealistic. The chorus is “The world won’t get no better if we just let it be/ The world won’t get no better we gotta change it yeah, just you and me”.
“We all appreciate the important power and significance of Cygnus and that doesn’t have to be affected at all by this fresh reinvention.”
I wanted William Bloom to write something in this magazine and I am glad he could. He has always been deeply attuned to what Cygnus does and he was a mainstay of the magazine when Ann wasn’t able to write anything. He is someone who has been true to that song I love, who rolls his sleeves up and works to improve things.
There’s little more to say, and it’s been hard for me to say anything today. I just want to give a Namaste from the heart to all the many wonderful people in the Cygnus orbit.

THE AWAKENED WAY
by Suzanne Giesemann
This is a gripping account. Giesemann, a former high-powered naval officer, discovered her gift as a Medium on losing her pregnant stepdaughter to a lightning strike. Now she has daily conversations across the veil, and is a firm proponent that we are all part of an intelligent, creative, benevolent Universe and that we are lovingly guided at every moment. Her book tells the story of her transformation and also provides an uplifting, positive, exciting guide to understanding the nature of consciousness and how we are all connected at a level beyond this earthly realm. We are invited to live the Awakened Way, a path that embraces ancient wisdom and integrates it with the latest scientific discoveries about the nature of consciousness and the underlying reality, and it sounds amazing. With glowing reviews from Anita Moorjani and Gordon Smith amongst many others, this is destined to become a classic.

MEDITATIONS FOR A POWERFUL YOU
by Clare Connolly
Like all Cico books, this one is beautiful to look at. It has lots of illustrations that enhance the reading experience and the chapters are each defined by a different overall colour. Of course, on the other hand it isn’t incredibly in-depth or esoteric, but Cico books are generally broad introductions to a subject for people who are beginners or want to make a fresh start. This book is about meditation but not really in a Buddhist sense. It includes meditations for creativity, confidence, grief and relaxation, and they use breathwork, visualisation and relaxation. There are scripts in the book that you can follow and then memorise, or make recordings for yourself. There are also QR codes at the back that you can use to download the meditations. So it’s going to help you create a routine where you use a host of different scripts and meditation techniques to tackle your day and create a new way of life.
MAKE GOOD TROUBLE
by Briana Pegado
The author is a trained Theta Healer, a psychic intuitive and a student of astrology, and she’s young too, so she brings not only knowledge but zest to this guide. Using various energy workings, including Theta Healing, tarot, astrology, goddess energy and more, her book shows us how to channel restlessness and disruption to make powerful change and teaches us how disruption of the status quo releases energy and what that energy can do. It also offers us many practical ways of bringing about change, from the smallest steps of improving personal relationships, to whistleblowing and challenging big systems of power. There are many interesting tools such as navigating by the archetypes of the Tarot and astrology, using the Values Compass tool to unearth our true values and how to use the disruption toolkit to understand when to speak up, when to be silent and when to act.

THE SEVEN GATEWAYS OF SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE
by Jonathan H. Ellerby
We all have unexpected moments that take us out of our ordinary lives and into a sense of the extraordinary, but it’s so easy in life’s chaos to brush them off and forget them. Jonathan Ellerby here reminds us that these beautiful moments, when added up, can provide stepping stones on the path to spiritual growth. He uses firsthand accounts, some of them his own experiences and others that were related to him, to unfold a seven stage guide on how to recognise and integrate these spiritual moments, exploring the non-ordinary modes of perception and consciousness and reminding us how spiritual experiences happen, what they mean, and how they can help us. It’s easy to read: Ellerby is a good storyteller, and he includes bullet point lists of experiences and things to look out for along with exercises to help us get the most out of them.

SPIRITUALITY IS FOR EVERY BODY
by Allison V. Thompkins
This is an excellent addition to the spirituality genre. The author, who suffers from cerebral palsy, addresses essential spiritual themes in a way that speaks to the particular life challenges of disabled readers. She weaves her own experiences and personal spiritual journey into teachings and wisdom, inviting the reader to see themselves in her story and encouraging them to create a strong relationship with Spirit, supported by regular practice. The exercises at the end of each chapter include extensive access notes to allow readers who are blind, deaf, deafblind, or mobility restricted to build a personalised practice that works for them in the body they live in.

THE SACRED CLUTTER-CLEARING JOURNAL by Denise Linn
In this new title, Cygnus favourite Denise Linn tackles clutter and the effect it can have on our lives. She describes clutter - what is it, why we keep it, and why it’s important to clear it and its energy - advising us that “Your health, relationships, and level of abundance all benefit from thoughtfully deciding what you want to keep and what it’s time to release.”
The practical steps are really useful, starting small and then taking us on a guide through each room of the house so we can assess its contents and get rid of those things that we don’t need, then moving on to the non-physical things such as time clutter, relationship clutter, and even thoughts. This is a journal, so it has spaces to make notes on items that should go and why.

– Spiritual Living
BOOK REVIEWS
William Bloom
When we open up to Source, we inevitably become more sensitive.
This is one of the great risks of spiritual development that is rarely discussed. Why a risk? Because when we open to Spirit, we also open to all the vibrations and subtle energies that are out there, good and bad.
It is probable that everyone reading this article in Cygnus Magazine has at some point in their lives experienced a sense of energetic overwhelm from all the terrible news and suffering on our planet. You have also probably experienced oversensitivity to other people’s negative vibrations, perhaps to the point of needing to avoid certain situations.
This is normal on the spiritual path. It comes from being more open and connected. No wonder that historically so many spiritual folk retreated into abbeys, monasteries and convents. No wonder that shamans, pagans and tribal medicine people have spent so much time alone in nature.
Because we all open up and necessarily become sensitive, I often think that at the very beginning of everyone’s spiritual journey, we should be taught two foundation practices.
The first is the skill of being able to distinguish between good and bad energies. It does not matter how beautiful an angel or spirit looks. What matters is its vibration. Supposing it is something evil that comes in cunning disguise. We need to be able to discern. Early on in my own training as a youngster, I was taught something very simple. Will the new energy say the Lord’s Prayer with you? Decades on, I still use that technique as a guideline when I meet something new and am not certain what it is.
The second practice I believe everyone should learn at the very beginning of their spiritual journey, is how to open and close. Open to the energies you want. Close to the energies you want nowhere near you.
Once I was training a group of Christian clergy, showing them how they might open more fully to God and Christ in their worship. During
Sensitivity & Compassion
the discussion afterwards several of them shared that they were concerned about opening fully to Spirit during a public service. I asked why that was so. They replied that they would then feel overwhelmed by the vibrations of the people in their congregation, especially greeting them at the church door after worship. Too many people! Too many vibrations!
I showed them how to open like flowers opening their petals to the sun and to then close their petals as nighttime came.
Managing your energy field and boundaries is also crucial for containing your own bad moods and negative thoughts. We do not want to create karma and harm other people with our bad vibes.
PSYCHIC PROTECTION by William
Bloom
I remember once working with a very intense spiritual seeker who was tormented by the idea that she was casting evil spells on other people because of her negative thinking. We discussed this very carefully and lovingly. During the conversation, she had a crucial insight. She realised that her ethical concern about radiating bad energy, in fact, created a boundary. Her soulful sense of responsibility kept her bad energy strictly in her own bubble. She was not radiating negativity.
This insight was a real blessing for her. It relieved her of the worry that she was polluting her psychic environment. It also made her realise that she had a depressive mental pattern of shaming herself. Understanding this was enough of a shift that she was able to liberate herself from the self-harming thought pattern. More than that, she could see that her concern about psychically polluting the atmosphere was in fact a sign that she was aligned with her soul and seeking to live a meaningful life of compassion and service.
Often people on the spiritual path think that their spiritual development will make their lives easier, but the further along the path we are, the more open we are, the more we are able to recognise and feel suffering. It is part of being sensitive and connected.
The greatest spiritual teachers are profound souls, aware of suffering, always developing more love, more connection, more compassion.
Wishing you waves of love and grace. William

ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE
by Dr. Sam Carr
Loneliness isn’t a subject you’d think could be inspiring and uplifting, but this book is. Dr. Carr is a psychologist and was the director of The Loneliness Project which gave him the opportunity to meet and interview people from all walks of life about the loneliness they were experiencing. His book tells these stories, stories of love and loss, of trauma and hope, told from care homes, living rooms, classrooms and kitchens and reveals what they tell us. He discovered that while each of their stories is utterly unique, they are all born out of the same desire for human connection. He interweaves these touching and powerful tales with his own personal narrative, and opens a window onto the inner lives of regular people – the forgotten, misplaced or misjudged – who all feel isolated in some way.

HEALING THROUGH SOUND
by Vickie Dodd
I know from listening to certain music how sound can calm and balance my mind, but here the author claims even more. She points out that we are made of sound and by listening deeply, we can hear the rhythms and stories of our audible body. In this guide to sound as bodywork, Vickie shares her system for addressing trauma that is locked into our body. It’s full of practical exercises and examples based on the sessions she has conducted with clients across five decades. She shows us how to listen deeply and precisely to the body’s stories and discover the rhythms of the areas to be treated as well as how to intuit the sounds required for healing - your unique soundprint. The theory is amazing but above all it’s practical and each of us can learn I hope to dialogue with our own body for release, restoration and vitality.

THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE
by Bessel van der Kolk
As many of you know, this isn’t a new book, but surprisingly it’s one that we have never carried before, despite the fact that it has sold over 3 million copies. It’s a book that changed the world. The author was born in the Netherlands but has taught in the United States for many decades. He is a pioneer in trauma and this book recounts all the work he has done shining a light on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, leading to all sorts of breakthroughs in helping people live with it and even put it behind them. He offers a bold new paradigm for treatment, moving away from standard talking and drug therapies and towards an alternative approach that heals mind, brain and body. The author Tara Westover writes “I cannot recommend it enough for anyone struggling with, well, anything”. It’s full of stories and case histories and, even though the author is a world-renowned scientist, it is very readable and engrossing.

THE HEART AND ITS HEALING PLANTS
by Wolf D. Storl
This is a wonderful weighty book, printed with plentiful full-colour illustrations on heavy paper. It’s not just an overview of plants that are good for heart health but a survey of all the lore around the heart and the possibilities - that often reside in myth and legend - for a healthier heart function. It’s not just a vigorous and sophisticated pump but it also has significant endocrine and nervous system functions. In ways - to echo how it is seen poetically - it is a major centre for the emotions and the author speculates that the current epidemic of heart disease is partly a sign that we are disconnected from natural cycles. He delivers many insights into psychological and spiritual aspects of these ailments.

Healing
Since the beginning of human history, humanity has not only roamed the earth in need of finding ways of surviving and living, but also explored the way of the soul towards the sacred.
Every culture through time and space has made its own endeavour on the path for the spiritual. Some of these paths have remained tribal and local, while others have expanded across the earth, forming an institute with theological dogmas and creeds. The first category was directed and led by the local shaman or priest (a person with any title that corresponds to that function) while the second category involved a priestly figure who often became involved in the ways of politics, economics and power. Some of these forms have died and vanished through the ages, while others have endured and stood the test of time.
Another way of looking at these different expressions of the human soul is through the definitions called exoteric and esoteric. This means that some paths have remained or transformed into organizations that keep the rituals, creeds and customs alive (exoteric) with others who put emphasis on the spiritual dimension of the soul’s exploration and the direct, mystical experience (esoteric).
Both these ways should provide the human soul with a clear link to the Divine source. The teachings of any of these traditions are formed and made to aid the human soul on its spiritual quest for the sacred. History has also shown that the human being is full of corruption on every level, expressed at any time and in every culture or place. There are many pitfalls along the way for the spiritual group and the individual seeker.
However, there are a few guidelines and safeguards that may help to keep the group and individual pure and out of trouble. Kabbalah has had its own fate and destiny through history, going through high peaks and sometimes low valleys. Whatever it went through as a tradition, it always kept fascinating the minds and hearts of the world, inspiring many other religions and spiritual lineages.
The Importance of Kabbalah
It is difficult to trace back the real beginning of Kabbalah, but it definitely has a Jewish origin and probably goes back a few thousand years. Be that as it may, the name Kabbalah was not known in those early days, and even the famous diagrams of the Tree of Life and the extended Tree or Jacob’s Ladder were not known then or were depicted in other forms than we see today. It was only around the 12th and 13th century CE that the name Kabbalah was used. The root of this name contains the word “Kibel” which means “to receive or to be receptive” and is also explained as “tradition”. Being a purely mystical tradition (which
implies having a direct experience of Spirit) it was simultaneously adopted by Hermetic philosophy, Christianity, magical lodges and many other streams of thought, temples and traditions.
There are classical writings like the Sefer Yezirah, the Zohar and the Bahir which are for some Kabbalists still the main authority in this tradition. The rabbis who embrace the Kabbalah often use these texts in their teachings. Others see the Kabbalah as a universal teaching and do not put emphasis on its Jewish background. Like in any other tradition, there are people who “claim” the tradition, identifying with it and trying to own it. The Kabbalist who has understood the mystical and transpersonal part of the teachings knows that wisdom cannot be owned or possessed, and that the true knowledge does only come through deep inner work and through the Grace that befalls us through providence.
At the same time, the Kabbalist is a person of common sense and practicality, making the teachings a part of daily life, integrating it in their actions, feelings and thoughts. Kabbalah does not move us away from our (personal) life but brings us closer to participation in the world and the inherent Spirit (Shekinah) which is always present here.
Mike Bais lives in The Netherlands and is a physiotherapist, counsellor and teacher. He has run his own groups for many years and teaches across Europe.
PATHS ON THE TREE OF WISDOM by Mike Bais
The Kabbalistic system lies at the roots of many of our esoteric systems today, especially Magic and the Tarot. This book, by an experienced teacher and workshop leader who lives in the Netherlands, sticks to the basics and explains the Kabbalah as it exists within the Jewish tradition, where it first found expression. He talks us through the Tree of Life and how to use the Sephiroth on it to ascend towards God. He also covers other subjects like Angels and Demons, Death and Rebirth and How to Live Kabbalah in Daily Life. There are meditations and exercises included with every chapter, but it’s mostly focused on patiently living your life, aware of the wider implications and explaining how to get closer to the divine. Books on Kabbalah come along quite rarely and I think this is one of the best of modern times. 256pp, 316 x 233 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £16.99

THE ROSE POCKET ORACLE by Rebecca Campbell
Rebecca has become one of Hay House’s biggest authors. Originally from Australia, she now lives in Glastonbury. Her teachings are gentle and genuinely mystical but also contemporary. Everyone knows that the rose is a classic spiritual symbol across history. Here Rebecca presents 44 cards with different images of the rose in different stages of development, and they are beautiful and intriguing. The cards range from The Anointer and The Breathing Rose to The Holy Grail and The Mystic Rose. A sample message on one card is “Silver Lining. Relief. Hope. It’s over. Acceptance.” The cards are all presented in her classic colours – pinks and violets – and are (not exclusively) feminine orientated. We feed our daughters the sugar-rush Disney diet, gifting Princesses’ dresses for birthdays and fairytale boxsets for Christmas. So what? Let’s not get over-woke about it, like a gatecrashing Maleficent trying to shut down the delightful Kingdom of Childhood Enchantment! After all, even kindergarten kids recognise this charming realm isn’t the reality they must live in.
But maybe we are smudging the line a little between fantasy and delusion, distorting realistic expectations for girls, slipping in some insidious feminine goals alongside the laudable? Blurring their vision slightly, as they merrily trip into adolescence upon their glass footwear, until they’re just a smidge more prone to falter on everyday bog-standard mundane life? Perhaps, as we offer our excited little maidens invitations to the innocentlooking fairy feast, they may already be ingesting the poisoned apple, soaking up a grandiose lie, digesting the seeds of their future mental ill-health.
Princess re-makes are less limiting than once upon a time, but they still convey the same underlying aspiration – the wish to be special. And is it really surprising that girls secretly yearn for a world where Snow White and Belle are the fairest of them all (and therefore the best and don’t we deserve the best!), where Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty wait only for a Princely rescue to be restored to their rightful place at the palace – i.e. upon the palace balcony being cheered by an adoring fan-base below... And can we really blame them for their delusions of grandeur? Truth be told, we all wanted to be the Princess.
And there lies the problem with the prevalent Princess precept: you cannot share out the crown amongst the populace, by definition royalty enthrones a favoured few. In other words, as we dangle the Princess role, the fairy story version of womanhood, in front of them we’re setting up the majority of (ordinary) girls for failure.
We cannot block the cut-throat peer pressure of social networking, or break the glamourous spell the media casts
The Power of Story
over impressionable, insecure teenagers as they struggle to position themselves in our self-doting, selfie-posting, celebrity culture. Narcissistic values are endorsed in order to make it in life. Most won’t; they’re as unlikely to feel the heady heights of being deemed special by society as they are to feel the pea beneath the mattresses piled up against them.
The novel A Westerly Wind Brings Witches highlights how not being the fashionable It Girl can impact a young woman’s emotional wellbeing – and what she can do about it. The hapless Mogs is not only one of the unnoticed, nondescript nobodies with whom the world abounds, but she is alas as far, far away from Princess status
as Quasimodo. Trailing behind the other small fry, Moira plays alone, eats sweets, collects stamps and grievances. Adulthood doesn’t bring the uglyduckling-to-swan makeover, just a greater desire to escape into illusion.
However, eventually we do have to grow up – dropping the dream to face brothers Grim Reality. With the fearsome forty looming, Mogs enrols in a (somewhat cantankerous) Cornish coven. Sweeping out the gunk from under society’s rug with her metaphorical witch’s broom, she flies through time, to the witch persecutions of Elizabethan England and the Black Death of a medieval London, for our lives may not be as little as we think – like a Russian doll set we’ve forgotten can open up. Multiple selves unfurl in layers – a cosmic onion growing on the Multiversal level playing field of magical possibilities! The Royal Road from rags to riches turns out to be of the inner variety.
Because the real Quest, one which promises self-determination and emotionally healthy outcomes, isn’t a competitive one. The true magic wand to a happy selfhood is individual not comparative, celebrating our sole endeavour on the journey to personal sovereignty. By encouraging our daughters to value their own and each other’s special unique worth, all little girls can grow up confidently, holding hands with their fellow playmates, Princesses every one.
A WESTERLY WIND BRINGS WITCHES by Sally Walker
This is a thoroughly entertaining novel that doesn’t stand on its pedestal and claim to be Great Literature. It tells the story of an ordinary person who makes a big decision in her life and ends up having an extraordinary life. It’s rooted in spirituality and esoteric practices and it’s written from the inside so it treats Wicca and spirituality with the greatest respect. Moira Box gives up on her deeply unfulfilling Home Counties life where she is treated as a second-class citizen and decamps down to Cornwall, to its furthest edges, where she gathers around her a coven of like-minded ladies and plunges deeply into the past. The locations in Cornwall feel real and familiar. The book is lightly humorous and it’s uplifting because it describes someone’s personal empowerment and because it’s a positive advert for hands-dirty having-fun witchery. And there is mystery there too.

PLANT FEASTS by Frankie Paz
This is a colourful and uplifting cookery book that has great recipes and also encourages a positive and community-based lifestyle. The recipes are all vegan and put a great emphasis on fresh plants and vegetables.
The author lives on a houseboat in Hackney and has used cookery and recipe development to guide herself away from an out-of-control and unsatisfactory way of living. Jamie Oliver is a fan: “This is a heartfelt, vivacious cookbook full of delicious plant-based recipes”. Her recipes are intended to bring people together in sharing circles, and include Cauliflower and Kale Bake with Parsley Cashew Cheese and Celeriac with Macadamia Ricotta and Padron Peppers. She is also a fan of seasonal eating and likes to mark the Solstices and Equinoxes with her friends. It’s a holistic and encouraging book that brings a warm glow.

THE CULINARY PHARMACY
by Lisa Masé
There are many titles now about good health through nutrition but this one seems to go deeper and is much more spiritual. The author used these techniques to get over ten years of chronic ill health, when she remembered the traditional simple foods she ate when she was back in her native Italy. She talks very much of a personalised approach to nutritional health and this book will help you find out what’s best for your constitution, using amongst other things ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine. Her voice is warm and she underlines how important your kitchen is and how you prepare your food. There are many recipes too. Food should be delicious and this title celebrates the deliciousness of life. Thus she also covers mindfulness and breathwork as other techniques for aiding nutrition.

SUPER-POWERED IMMUNITY STARTS
IN THE GUT by
Michelle Schoffro Cook
It’s becoming widely accepted now that much of our immunity and overall ability to stay healthy starts in our digestive system. This book - written by a doctor of natural medicine, herbalist, aromatherapist and nutritionist - goes into the subject in greater detail but remains eminently practical and easy to use. She goes through all the latest science and underlines the threats to our microbiome from antibiotics and other threats. She describes all the fermented foods like kombucha, sauerkraut and yoghurt that rebuild gut health. The centrepiece though of the book is her detailed Seven-Step Plan to build a healthy gut environment, which includes gently eliminating harmful substances and rebuilding the diversity there and then benefitting the useful microbes through nutrition and adequate hydration.

We regularly read about the spread of type 2 diabetes especially in the West and are often told that it’s our fault for eating too much. Equally, type 2 diabetes is seen as a chronic disease, one we’ll have to live with and take medication for throughout our lives. This book challenges both beliefs: firstly by saying that it’s not our fault, going into detail about the manipulation of what we eat by those industries with a vested interest; and secondly giving us the tools to reverse the disease ourselves. The 9-week programme devised by the authors (one of whom was diabetic himself) is straightforward and easy to follow, and everything is explained along the way so we know why we’re doing what we’re doing. It includes a postdiabetic plan to sustain the changes made too. It’s also full of success stories which are what we want to hear.

THE HOLISTIC GUIDE TO GUT HEALTH by
Dr. Mark Stengler
Leaky Gut Syndrome has become a big thing in recent years and this new title uses it as a starting point. What happens is that the lining of our gut gets compromised and allows toxins and bacteria to leak out into the rest of our body, triggering inflammation, and issues with the brain, skin, heart, liver, muscles, joints, eyes, immune system and more. The syndrome is not widely recognised in modern medicine, but the role of the gut is certainly a big part on the alternative side from Chinese acupuncture to Ayurvedic treatments, and Dr. Stengler picks up where they leave off. In this book he details the role of the intestine, the causes of the leaks and protocols to follow to affect a repair, with inspiring examples of successful treatments.

ACUPRESSURE SELF-CARE
HANDBOOK by Roger Dalet
Acupressure is not something we have covered that often, but this book looks ideal for the lay reader. The author, Roger Dalet, was a famous French acupuncturist with over 30 years of experience, and here we find out about his step-by-step treatment protocols for more than 150 diseases and disorders from illnesses such as cold, flu, or digestive upset to chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and heart problems, and finally to nervous system and emotional complaints such as depression, shingles and Bell’s palsy. We learn how it works, what will be a cure and what a supporting treatment to other healing methods, and how best to apply the pressure. This is a super resource that we can all turn to for immediate relief of a problem or even for preventative purposes.

A Guide to Starting a Cygnus Café
We know that we have many members who are interested in starting Cygnus Cafés in their community, and that they have questions, both about how to get started and also how they want their group to run. Below is a mini-guide to running a Cygnus Café to give you a taste of what you can expect – if you would like to start your own Café please do get in touch.
❖ The starting point for setting up a group is the purpose of a Cygnus Café, and that is creating a space for you to meet people of like mind in your own locality. Nowadays it is often the case that you might find you can only get so far by yourself using a book. Sometimes it can be a great help on your spiritual journey to share issues that feel unresolved, with others of like heart.
❖ Most of our groups run in what we would call an unstructured way, they have no agenda and allow the magic of the moment to provide the topics spontaneously, depending on who wishes to share their recently experienced insights or share their current concerns of the heart.
❖ When getting down to practicalities the first thing you need is a space, generally meetings are held in members’ homes or quiet rooms in cafés or community spaces. Any room hire costs etc. are shared by the participants on a donation basis. We advise avoiding noisy venues or spaces that have no door, as this helps a great deal. You need a safe space where you know you will not be interrupted.
❖ When thinking about when and how often to hold your meetings, consider the needs of the group when deciding what is best for (most of) you. Some groups choose mornings, others evenings, some even choose a weekend. Larger groups sometimes choose to have two meetings in a month, once in the evening and once in the morning, to match the different lifestyles. Most meeting last for around 2 hours and our advice is to stick to the same day every month, week or fortnight to allow people to organise their diaries.
❖ Many groups take a little while to gain momentum, and this is normal. We suggest you avoid the temptation of trying to find a perfect arrangement.
❖ For meeting support you can contact Vicky Hartley at Cygnus on vicky@ cygnus-books.co.uk
❖ Setting up for the meeting we suggest that the host prepares the room in the most appropriate way, arranging the seating so that everyone has eye-to-eye contact. Meetings generally begin with everyone taking turns to say their name and where they are from and, if they wish, a mention about something they may want to talk about later.
❖ Many groups have found it very helpful to keep the level of the meeting at a higher level by setting the intention of the group to the highest good at the beginning of the meeting. So that, whatever happens, the highest good may come out of it.
❖ Gradually most groups begin to observe how Cygnus Cafés can grow in depth as participants feel more comfortable and they can share their vulnerabilities and “soft spots”. This gives others the confidence to share their concerns or doubts.

THE CHANGE TAROT
by Jessica Dore
Jessica wrote Tarot For Change which was a very popular title about using tarot for self-development, rather than as an esoteric device that looks through the veil of mystery. So this deck she has created follows in the same vein: in the book that accompanies the cards she describes the cards you draw as intuitive pointers to help your psychological self-realisation. It’s a classic deck and all the images are recognisably based on the Rider Waite Smith cards. The images though have been modernised and that kind of charming medieval aspect has been removed. The people on the cards are also spread much more equally and equitably across the genders. The colouring is bolder and less complicated: a lot has been left uncoloured and other aspects are coloured in blocks so that one colour dominates, conveying a clear overall signal.

ANIMAL GUIDES TAROT
by Radleigh Valentine
A lovely new deck from the ever popular author Radleigh Valentine. The messages are gentle, positive, loving and respectful, and the illustrations by Dan Craig are vibrant and engaging. Featuring all creatures great and small from dogs, cats, horses, birds and butterflies to tigers, elephants, giraffes, dolphins and kangaroos, and organised by season, Valentine has beautifully merged the rich, time-honoured traditions of Tarot for divining answers to life’s questions with the power of an animal spirit deck for connecting us to the wisdom of the earthly and mystical realms and the archetypes embodied in the animal world. The booklet isn’t illustrated but it’s very informative and of course useful.

AMAZING WOMEN
by Mara Parra and Vicky Benaim
This is an attractively packaged deck, with the cards and booklet nestled in a pretty presentation box, so would make a good present for a friend, or indeed for yourself! The cards are quite big with rounded edges, and a lovely design with the teachings presented neatly above the image. The featured women are a global collection of rule-breakers, intellectuals, artists and women of power, so they have a lot to say: Marie Curie life advice? “It is time to see what happens when you stop listening to others”. Nina Simone’s tip on work: “If it doesn’t open, it wasn’t your door”. The accompanying booklet contains mini biographies of each woman, along with an important quote. There are also 3 different suggested card layouts to gain insight and inspiration. Other women include Maria Montessori, Anne Frank and Vanessa Bell.

PLEIADIAN SOUL HEALING
by Pavlina Klemm
We featured Klemm’s previous book, Light Messages from the Pleiades, last summer and it was very popular. In this new volume, Klemm shares with us the new messages from the Pleiadians. They describe the radical energetic changes currently happening on Earth and how, due to the ongoing influx of Cosmic Light to planet Earth, processing and healing the karmic situation of humanity as a whole is now possible. Good news at last! They also share how the manipulation of humanity in the past can be healed and our lost soul parts recovered. Detailing the spiritual, genetic, and karmic manipulation that humanity has endured over the millennia, the Pleiadians offer sacred number sequences and visualisations to support us in dissolving artificially encoded consciousness programmes as well as releasing negativities from soul, mind, body and energy body. 192pp, 216 x 140 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £16.99 ❖ Code: 340141 ❖ Non-Member Price: £12.21 ❖ Member Price: £10.99
CROWS AND RAVENS
by Rick de Yampert
Corvids are renowned for their intelligence and they are able to recognise and move towards specific humans. Many people love crows and ravens – pagans of course but also humans with no affiliation – and they are ubiquitous both in urban and rural areas. The book explores history, folklore, mythology, and science, and it delves into how the crow and its cousin, the raven, are sacred to many cultures throughout the world, including Norse, Celtic, Jewish and North American Indigenous traditions. This guide teaches you how to welcome these highly intelligent birds into your own spiritual practice, whether you follow Wicca, Druidry, or any other path, or just find them interesting. It presents rituals, meditations and exercises that help you discover the magic and mystery of corvids. Learn about crow and raven divination, create your own crow-raven talisman, uncover the shadowy side of corvids and much more.

COMA AND NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE
by Alan and Beverley Pearce
This fascinating study of alternative brain states explores the extraordinary experiences of expanded consciousness that arise during comas, both positive and negative. Every day around the world, thousands of people are placed in medically-induced comas. For some it’s an utter blank, but others go through alternate lives spanning decades, lives they grieve once awakened. Some encounter ultra-vivid nightmares, while others feel oneness with the Universe or say they have glimpsed the Afterlife. Examining the beautiful and disturbing experiences of those who have survived comas, the authors explore the mysterious levels of consciousness this near-death experience unlocks. This book reveals the wide variety of conscious states that can arise during comas and how accepting their reality is crucial to the field of consciousness and NDE studies.

DEVELOPING YOUR SUPERNATURAL AWARENESS by Frederick Woodard
This is an interesting exploration of what different supernatural experiences have in common and how they can transform us. Since 2002 the author, who is both a clinical psychologist and a paranormal researcher, has interviewed more than 100 people about their supernatural experiences, and here he shares many case studies of, for example, people finding missing objects by extraordinary means; having premonitions of future events; encountering supernatural beings, such as angels and the spirits of dead loved ones; communicating in unusual ways with animals; causing electronic devices to malfunction through an energy exchange; and seeing unusual objects. With such a wealth of information he is able to show us what many individuals commonly experience as they encounter the supernatural; how they make sense of what occurred, found meaning from it and changed as a result.

THE 7 LEVELS OF WISDOM by
Mónica Esgueva
If you know of people who seem interested in but unsure about traditional Eastern spiritual practices, then you might recommend this book to them. With the seeming disconnect between traditional Eastern approaches and modern society’s mindset and the current unsettled environment, the author has created a book that describes the richness of Eastern philosophies but tailored for the Western mind. She assesses and describes the different stages of human consciousness so that anyone can identify where they are on the progressive path toward enlightenment, as well as what lies ahead, with an aim to inspire people to reach the highest levels of human consciousness and to see it as something they can do, regardless of their responsibilities or life conditions.

THE CELESTIAL GARDEN
by Jane Hawley Stevens
The author of this book is a lifelong gardener and herbalist and this highly practical guide tells us all we need to know about why places in the zodiac have an influence on what we grow and how to make the most of that in our own gardens. And it’s not just the star signs - she also shows how to work with earth and moon energies. There are also plentiful photographs of the amazing outcomes in store for us if we try to follow her system. The text is suitable for a gardening beginner as well as being full of vital information that can help someone more experienced. Even our own astrological signs can guide us to find greater satisfaction in the garden. Not only does this approach lead to richer crops and more abundant yields; working with the moon and the heavens can also restore our elemental connection with nature and with the earth itself.

ZEN IN THE VERNACULAR
by Peter Coyote
Peter Coyote is a well-known actor and narrator but he has been close to the West Coast Buddhist community for many decades. It feels a little bit counterintuitive to include a book in Cygnus that’s actually resolutely secular but I feel strongly that for many of us Buddhist practice is something we can add to other spiritual practices, because its strength lies in the way it helps us actually live our lives. To an extent it’s a manual for practical living and then our spiritual striving can be something separate which is freed up by our stability as human beings. The author explains that the majority of Western Buddhists are secular and many don’t meditate, wear robes, shave their heads or believe in reincarnation. Exploring Buddha’s core teachings, the author shares his own secular and accessible interpretations of the Four Noble Truths, the Three Treasures and the Eightfold Path. These are invaluable teachings.

ASTROLATIONS! by Jill
Carr
This is a big but interesting book, examining both Western and Eastern astrology, and blending them to enable you to find a profound analysis of the personality types of those closest to you in life. The author describes personality traits of each Sun sign with their Chinese counterpart - a blend of 144 combinations. A Leo born in Pig year differs from a Leo Rat, for instance, with the Eastern subdivision into Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth refining the interpretation further. The book is divided into seven sections that present all the information very clearly. Thus we start with lists to help us identify both the Western and Eastern signs, followed by clear explanations of those signs, and continuing with a thorough analysis of how to use the information from both.
You have probably heard of The Art of War by Sun Tzu, apparently the definitive guide on how to win a war? Well here we have a believable and dazzling reinterpretation of this work, showing us how the original book was not written by an advisor to generals as a polemic on how to conquer your enemies, but actually created for ordinary people to help them to control their minds and find inner peace. Hunter Liguore re-examines the whole text chapter by chapter; she summarises the content then provides a commentary on it with teachings and exercises that you can use in your own life, delivering what she calls “Sun Tzu’s hidden path to peace and wholeness”. Chapters include: Laying Plans, Calculating One’s Nature, Territory of the Mind and The Wholehearted Will, and are fascinating and helpful in equal measure. 240pp, 234 x 153 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £14.99 ❖ Code: 340151 ❖ Non-Member Price: £10.55 ❖ Member Price: £9.50
THE HUNDRED REMEDIES OF THE TAO
by Gregory Ripley
I often suspect that Taoism and its associated arts have the most to offer when it comes to living a holistically spiritual and healthy life. The philosophy, literature and body therapies all unite to make us better, more integrated human beings, and while you can go very deep in all of them, they are also relatively easy to make a start on. Here a Taoist priest offers a new translation of a 6th century text called the Bai Yao Lu, which was originally created as a practical guide to what enlightened behaviour looks like. His commentaries show us how we can be guided by these Hundred Remedies in daily life now and how practically we can “go with the flow”. Some of the suggestions include Being Reverent, Respectful, Humble and Unassuming, Enjoying Giving Food and Drink to Others, and Listening to Advice and Transforming Oneself. Again, these are simple on the surface, but then Gregory gives us further direction on making these active spiritual practices. 288pp, 228 x 151 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £18.99

This is a little different. It’s a guide to the uses of astrology, lunar cycles and birth charts for self-care and empowerment, focusing on the energy of each sign and how to align your self-care practices with the astrological seasons. The author tells us: “Astrology gives us this great cosmic map, a guide to help us connect with the different parts of ourselves and to the energy around us, but we decide how to read the map. It’s not a belief system; it’s a tool.” Her book is a great guide on how to use this tool. Each chapter takes an astrological sign and gives us a comprehensive list of information including: a description of that season’s energy, a ritual, a meditation, affirmations, journal prompts, tarot and oracle card spreads, a list of correspondences and crystals and herbs that support the sign’s energy. This is both an in-depth guide and an interesting read. 240pp, 215 x 135 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £13.99

BOOK REVIEWS
When we were younger we used to sing a most beautiful song, with the line in it: “Come, free your hearts right now, from all the lies.” As I sang the word “lies”, I noticed that a million bells were ringing inside me, because it struck me very forcibly that our most important task in life is to free our hearts, minds and souls from all the lies we have inadvertently believed as a result of conditioning.
Because freeing our hearts from lies is also a most important component of healing from cancer, these days I am working to do that with a wonderful, compassionate shaman/doctor/sound healer, Vladislav Matrenitsky, in Ukraine.
The other day Vladislav suggested I talk to my brain, and ask it what was wrong. Since 2011 I have known I have brain tumours you see. They don’t usually give me any symptoms miraculously, but they are still there, like the sword of Damocles.
So, to help me do what Vladislav said, I looked at one of the statues of Quan Yin (Goddess of Compassion), that we have in our bedroom. I imagined this compassionate being, looking into my brain and showing me what was wrong.
This is what I was shown. Throughout my life, and maybe even before, I had believed a very big lie:
THE MYSTERY OF LIFE ENERGY
that for sins I was not even aware of, did not understand and may not even have committed, I could be punished and made to suffer unbearably for years and years, so that to this day, when I suffer, I believe I am being punished for something… but I do not know what I did wrong. Also I could never quite believe that I deserved a life without suffering. The effect of my acceptance of this great big lie was to place a sort of iron helmet over my head, which even the divine could not penetrate or remove, because I was keeping it in place with my own conditional belief.
by Eric Leskowitz
Energy Medicine has been a big subject recently, but this book approaches it from a different angle. The author wants to highlight the reality of the human biofield and shows the workings of human energy projecting beyond the body on many levels, including group and even global levels. His main field of analysis is phantom limb pain and he demonstrates powerfully how this offers proof of the human biofield.
The author has scientific authority: he is a psychiatrist who practised pain management for more than 25 years, he has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and he has written four books. He goes from the science to tackle wider questions around how group energetics in sport for example create their own greater power, and he also looks at how megaliths are lined up with the earth’s energetic meridians. Telling quotes from major authors like Donna Eden and Joan Borysenko back up his credibility.

So in sum, my iron helmet is formed by the (totally unreasonable) sense of having been abandoned by God to an unpleasant fate because I have displeased Him/Her in some way. Neale Donald Walsch says you should always give what you wish to receive, and that is what I have always tried to do: to give others an ever-deepening sense of their connection with the Divine, and an awareness of their ineffable perfection and purity, and the feeling that they are warmly, totally and unconditionally loved.
So what I have now realised is that while I may have spent almost my entire life in manifesting my prayer to be able to spread Divine wisdom and love, I have to find some way for this ocean of truth, joy, peace and harmony to penetrate my own body and mind as well, and to fill me so fully that there simply won’t be room for anything else; otherwise healing will eternally elude me. In other words I have to remove that darned iron helmet, because it is a lie.
On realising this I immediately saw an image of the helmet being turned upside down and made beautiful –studded with jewels and transformed from iron into gold. How do I do that? The answer came very quickly: take steps to cancel out the beliefs forming the helmet with opposing truths. Affirm: I am eternally and completely loved; I never did anything wrong, I am innocent and pure; I can never be separated from love because I AM love; love can never abandon me, because love is all that exists; my mind is love’s mind; my flesh is love’s flesh. God is love. Nothing else exists.
£11.50
So with these affirmations, persistently practised, I could turn the helmet upside down and transform it into an empty grail cup, which I could then offer up to the divine, to be filled to overflowing with THAT which is beyond the mind. So, while I may never understand it through discursive thought, there’s one thing I know: the Unknowable will increasingly be able to flow from me to quicken and nurture the souls of others. And that is the gift I most longed for throughout my life.

As a writer and musician, Heller used writing to restore her own life. As an educator, she’s worked with vulnerable groups and individuals on using the power of writing to heal and grow. In this book, she shares the techniques she developed instructing others and helping them explore their emotions, find their voice, and better navigate the challenging experiences we confront in our lives. THE WRITER WHO INHABITS YOUR BODY
by Renée Gregorio
This is a great idea. There are many books that attempt to encourage or cajole you to write and they can be filled with useful exercises but there isn’t much, as far as I know, on moving your body to encourage written creativity. This somatic work is very popular at the moment and it’s become clear that a lot of trauma and negativity is stored in the body. The author is a poet and an Aikido practitioner and she suggests creating an internal writing “dojo” where you can clear your mind and refine your skills. She offers a step-by-step experiential programme to help you to centre yourself in your body and, in so doing, expand your creative capacity on the page and in your life. I feel confident that this book will help seasoned and aspiring writers alike work with the body as a wise teacher to access and express their authentic inner voice.

MYTH MAKING by Maureen Murdock
The author is renowned for writing the classic Heroine’s Journey and likewise this is a book that draws on Jungian perspectives from an experienced therapist. Where does our personal story fit into the bigger picture and the wider currents of human experience? It’s also a practical book on therapeutic memoir writing and she explores other classics of the genre, including Terry Tempest Williams’s Refuge and Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking. Like myth, memoir reveals a unity to human experience and that ultimately we all share similar hopes, dreams and desires as well as fears, losses and heartbreaks. Memoir helps writers understand the trajectory of their lives and helps readers better grasp their place within the human experience. What does our journey consist of? This book will help us find out.

SHADOW WORK FOR THE SOUL
by Mary Mueller Shutan
The shadow has become a familiar concept now in psychology and analysis, having been popularised by the work of C. G. Jung. Throughout our lives, we repress and deny the parts of our authentic selves that our families, peers and the world told us were wrong, unlovable or “too much”, and from this repression our shadow is born. By the time we reach adulthood, much of our authentic self is shadow. It’s like a large sack that’s slung over our shoulder, full of stuff that is slowing us down, and which needs to be examined and discarded. This then is a comprehensive guide to identifying and reclaiming your shadow, full of stories and case studies. The author explains how to find compassion for your dark side, reconnect with the repressed and abandoned parts of yourself, and reclaim the resiliency and joy of your authentic, whole self. We do have much to learn from that shadow too.

TRANSFORMING THE MOTHER WOUND
by Monika Carless
The subtitle of this interesting book is Sacred Practices for Healing Your Inner Wise Woman through Ritual and Grounded Spirituality. It not only presents a healing process for troubled relationships with your mother as suggested by the title, but for all forms of “soul-wounds”, using the author’s own experiences, and with a variety of suggested wise woman tools that come from her own earth-based spirituality and mysticism. She eases us in gently with the first two sections, and then weaves story, ritual, reflections, journal meditation and other psychospiritual perspectives in her wise and compelling journey to help us cultivate self-compassion. You’ll want to read this book if you’re looking to reclaim your power, learn to love yourself again and transform a core or ancestral wound.

THE PROMISE by Mandy Morris
Mandy Morris is a hugely successful manifestation coach, and you can understand why when you read her book. Her tone is encouraging, she’s a great sharer and she is expert in opening our eyes to our own habits and thought processes and showing how to overcome them. Here she sets out her seven pathways that are intended to show us “how we can step out of the darkness of our human conditioning and find the light that has always been there”. These pathways are Expansion, Self-Knowledge, Empathy, Clarity, Transmutation, Co-creation and Coherence, and she tackles each theme chapter by chapter, showing us how to apply them to our lives. With examples drawn from her own life and from those she has tutored, along with helpful “reflection questions” she helps us to understand, adjust and move forward.

NATURAL HAPPINESS BY Alan Heeks
This new book on gardening and mindful peace of mind comes with great praise from friends of Cygnus, William Bloom and Jude Currivan, as well as Chris Johnstone, co-author of Active Hope. Alan presents his Seven Seeds of Natural Happiness, which grow from 30 years’ experience of helping people learn from nature, and from creating gardens and an organic farm. Gardening makes you happier on a profound level and you can readily apply concepts such as mulching, seeding and weeding to everyday life away from the garden or allotment. The book also includes a toolbox of resources including checklists and useful websites. So this isn’t a practical gardening book, but instead it shows how you can apply the principles that make for good gardening to your own issues. It’s simply written and easy to understand and I recommend it highly.
WORDS THAT FREE YOU
by Jacques Martel
This is one of those books that should have been written years ago! Words form such a massive part of all of our lives, and yet rarely do we stop to think how we are using them - could the words we are using actually be bringing us down, as well as those around us? Jacques Martel has been examining the use of words over many years, and has finally put all of his thoughts down in writing. He explains how each word we speak or write carries a power that increases or decreases our energy level, and goes into detail showing us words and expressions that are negative, and how to rephrase them to be more positive. He makes it easy to absorb, with tools such as a table to convert words and expressions from the negative to the positive, and with each chapter he goes into detail about specific words to use that really make a difference.

EMBRACE ABUNDANCE
by Danette May
Danette May was a single mum with $47 who is now a massively successful businesswoman with a family and a joyful network of friends. This is her follow-up book to The Rise, which detailed this transformational journey, and here she shares the techniques that she used on herself, and subsequently millions of others, to put their lives back on track. It’s nothing new exactly, but very easy to read and be inspired by; the language is fun too and there are chapters with titles like Holy Hell Yes and When Life Throws You Curveballs, Swing or Duck. She tackles self-love, health, spirit, relationships, purpose and prosperity, each with well-researched and fascinating facts and analysis along with exercises to hone that knowledge. It’s enjoyable classic personal development.

SOVEREIGN by Emma Seppälä
This book comes with some effusive reviews like “Sovereign is one of the most influential books I have read in years” and does seem to live up to its reputation. Seppälä’s approach is practical, full of real-life examples and tools, which alongside her well-researched information and use of psychological data, creates a definitive guide to how to set ourselves free from whatever it is that is keeping us tied up in knots. With chapters on self, emotions, mind, relationships, intuition and body, this is a thorough going over, which, if we follow her guidance, will strengthen our awareness and discernment in our everyday experiences, choices and interactions, plus build our energy, courage, strength and boldness. It’s fun to read too, with poems and a liberal scattering of humour to cheer us on. 256pp, 229 x 152 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £14.99 ❖ Code: 340113 ❖ Non-Member Price: £10.55 ❖ Member Price: £9.50

GET QUIET by Elaine Glass
There is a lot of clamour in the modern world, whether or not you have things going on in your life that make it louder, so to find a book that helps us silence it, or at least muffle it, is exciting. Glass writes from a personal perspective, having had to battle her way out of some deafening times in her life, and has used this experience to create a guide - 7 simple paths - to help us too. The backbone of the book is the steps we can take to achieve a quiet state where our body, heart and mind are harmonious and at peace allowing us to connect with our soul, a state that is really hard to find! The book takes us through the 7 paths which she likens to finding our way through a labyrinth, with real-life illustrations and practical exercises; it’s well-written and well-structured and looks like it will really help.

THE ADVENTURE by Steve Taylor
We have already enjoyed The Leap and Extraordinary Awakenings by Steve Taylor, and here is his latest, like many others promoted by Eckhart Tolle via his imprint. Tolle indeed, provides the foreword to the book, inspiring us to dive in and follow Taylor’s guidance so that our life’s journey can become what it is meant to be: “a glorious adventure, full of grace and joy.” The book grew out a series of workshops and online courses linked to The Leap, focussing on eight qualities of wakefulness - including disidentification from the ego, gratitude, integration with the body, dissolving psychological attachments and embracing mortality - and includes guidance, exercises and meditations to help us cultivate these characteristics. These qualities brought together should provide “a raft” to take us to presence, peace and joy of being.

‘Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.’
ALBERT EINSTEIN
The Enneagram, with its intricate layers and profound insights, is a testament to the wisdom from Albert Einstein that opens this book. It is not an endeavour to be approached with haste or to be condensed into quick fixes and cheat sheets. Rather, it requires patience, curiosity, and a commitment to delve into its depths at a reasonable pace.
In Enneagram Made Easy, we intentionally crafted a guide that introduces you to the fundamental concepts and shared language of the Enneagram, ensuring that you have a solid foundation before diving into the vast pool of wisdom that this system offers. It is my hope that more people will take the time to understand these fundamentals, allowing them to approach their journey with clarity and a strong sense of self-awareness.
You may choose to skim the surface, seeking a glimpse of what the Enneagram has to offer. And within the pages of this book, you will find a wealth of knowledge and information. However, should you decide to embrace the fullness of the Enneagram, I assure you that the guidance within these pages will be a steadfast companion on your lifelong journey of self-discovery.
Studying the Enneagram is not a destination; it is an ongoing exploration that brings you ever closer to the essence of your being. It is our sincere hope that Enneagram Made Easy will serve as a trusted companion, providing you with the necessary tools to embark on this transformative journey.
I extend this invitation to you with
An Extract from the Introduction
open arms, knowing that your unique perspective and experiences will contribute to the rich tapestry of the Enneagram community. Your support and engagement will not only enhance your personal growth but also inspire others to embrace the transformative power of the Enneagram.
Together, let us embark on a journey of self-discovery, empowering ourselves and others to live lives of authenticity and fulfilment.
Try to resist the urge to “just read about yourself.” The Enneagram is a fluid system that provides access to all nine types. I refer to them as points to encourage you, the reader, to explore your relationship with every single one of these energies. If you only look

at the one point that happens to be yours, you will be depriving yourself of a rich experience. I would compare that to receiving nine beautifully wrapped presents, each containing a different gift for you, but you only choose to open one.
Finding your place on the Enneagram map is an essential first step. You lead from this point. It is your home base, your default that you return to, and the dominant energy that you embody. The ancient Greek aphorism “Know thyself” is “applied to those whose boasts exceed what they are” and is also a warning to pay no attention to the opinion of the multitude. These words are said to be inscribed on the walls of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. These words have great significance in our ever-evolving and rapidly changing world. When you picked up this book, you began your journey to discover who you really are instead of creating another version of yourself. It is quite the opposite of You 2.0. Your goal now is to find out who you are underneath all the versions of yourself that you have created. Welcome to the journey of your lifetime! May you find joy, peace, acceptance, and belonging in this exploration. May love be your path and light shine on every step you take. Most importantly, may you fall deeply in love with the authentic you. The glorious being that you were created to be.
The Enneagram is stimulating and effective and it’s great to see this new book on the subject. It has garnered some great reviews, including one from Rebecca Campbell, author of Letters to a Star Seed who says: “This book will change the relationship you have with yourself and everyone else.” It’s in the Made Easy series from Hay House, so is aimed at those who are new to the Enneagram, but it is so thorough and clearly laid out that it’s worth a read even if you are already familiar with it. We learn about its fascinating history, then dive in to cover the elements and the points and finally how to find ourselves, and most importantly, others, on the Enneagram map. The author urges us to treat this as a journey not a race, because there is so much to learn, and her book is merely the start. 288pp, 197 x 130 mm, Paperback, 2024, RRP £12.99 ❖ Code: 340119❖ Non-Member Price: £9.44 ❖ Member Price: £8.50

DRAGONS AND SERPENTS
by Stefan Broennle
The energy lines that are traced across the land are known as dragon lines, and many of the churches and other sacred places that are found along these ley lines are dedicated to the Archangel Michael who is often portrayed as piercing the dragon with his lance. This book explores, among other things, what is really going on here, because dragon and serpent energies and symbols can be traced from prehistory to the present around the world. Stefan Broennle takes us on a journey through the myths, legends, symbols and geomantic powers of dragons in different cultures around the world. He explains how dragons are archetypes of the elemental force of the Earth, while the serpent (more feminine), which can change its skin and regenerate, carries the elemental force of rebirth. He even gives exercises on how we too can awaken dragon energies and thus connect more closely to the earth.

GIZA: THE TESLA CONNECTION by
Christopher Dunn
We don’t often do books like this but we are including this primarily because of the endorsement by the great Graham Hancock. He says it’s “by far the most important, detailed, and convincing case ever made for a lost advanced technology of prehistory that left its mark on the sublime works of the ancient Egyptians.” What they builtespecially at Giza - is mind-boggling and it’s almost more likely than not that it involved some technology that we aren’t aware of. It seems doubtful that the pyramids are tombs, so could they really be energy-harvesting machines? The author is a retired aerospace manufacturing engineer, so he is no science novice, and the book is full of illustrative photos and diagrams. It’s easy to follow and, most excitingly, it has wonderful implications for our future.

THE JERUSALEM FILES
by Corjan Mol and Christopher Morford
This is a combination of a rip-roaring story (think The Da Vinci Code crossed with Indiana Jones) and fascinating, real-life, in-depth historical sleuthing and revelation. The whereabouts of the ancient Jewish Menorah have long been shrouded in mystery, and it’s taken two driven and enthusiastic historical researchers cum treasure hunters to track it down. It’s quite a story, detailing the lengthy journey travelled by the Menorah, which, having been dug up from Temple Mount by the Knights Templar and then travelled through the French court, ends up “in plain sight” in America some 800 years later. It’s a labyrinthine tale, peppered with interpretations of symbols, anagrams, hidden messages and astonishing pieces of luck, but it’s undoubtedly gripping.

THE MUSIC OF THE DIVINE SPHERES
by Alexander Milovanov
This book is one to linger over, because the author is sharing with us not only his discoveries of how the ancients viewed the structure of our consciousness, but also the rediscovered ancient knowledge of how to raise human consciousness to higher levels, and the multiple uses of sacred geometry as applied by the ancients. It includes a revelation of the amazing laws of nature underlying the structures of space and consciousness, the main secrets of the Egyptian pyramids, and the true meaning of the ancient symbols such as the Flower of Life, the Seed of Life and more. It’s a lot of information, but fascinating and exciting. It has a foreword by the legendary Bob Frissell who says the book “...makes a significant contribution to the great awakening that is currently unfolding on a global scale.”

THE DRAGON RIDERS ORACLE by
Christine Arana Fader
This is a bright and stunning oracle deck which not only features wise dragons, but includes a colourful array of beings that ride them. Thus the wisdom the cards convey becomes more multifaceted and complex. Dragons, the oldest creatures in our universe, have accompanied gods, goddesses, planets, angels, elves and ascended masters through the ages. Together these pairings of dragon and dragon rider create powerful energetic fields that can support us on our way to higher levels of consciousness. The riders include Lao Tzu, Kuthumi, Artemis and various archangels including Michael. The deck also includes two joker cards, featuring cats, which, like dragons, magically connect our world to the spirit world. These cards carry rituals rather than messages. Revealing the astonishing hidden world around you
Your perceived ‘reality’ is simply a brush stroke in a much bigger picture.
Humanity has forgotten that it is linked to invisible but hugely powerful spiritual forces.
In his new book the Spaces Between acclaimed spirit communicator Joseph unveils this greater reality and the lifeforms that exist within it and interact, unseen, with you in subtle but powerful ways.
Some are allies, some are destructive, but all are brought under the spotlight by Joseph whose intention is to reveal the hidden world you are a part of and are influenced by, second by second.
…Read the Spaces Between and your viewpoint will change forever.
