Handmade Bitterballs & Croquettes
Welcome to Barilo, We are proud to offer you in Cyprus our home & hand made Bitterballs & Croquettes. The Bitterball is from Dutch origin and the name “bitterball� stems probably from the wife of the Bar owner Jan Barendsz in the year 1783 in Amsterdam. During the drinking of beer and liquir, the guests got hungry and the wife of Jan Barendsz made (in exchange of a small financial donation) cheese, sausage and bread for them, to keep them from going home to eat. At a certain moment, Mrs Barendsz mixed all the left overs to small balls and turned them through egg and bread crums and then fried the balls. She was so happy with the end result that she offered these fried balls next to the other small bites in the Bar of her husband. Since the liquir that was sold in the bar tasted bitter, the ball next to it to eat was called “bitterball). The Dutch Bitterball and Croquette are now available in Cyprus. We compile the recipes for our Bitterballs and Croquettes ourselves and we make them homemade and by hand.
In the Netherlands, the “broodje kroket” (Croquette Sandwich) is very popular as a quick lunch. Bitterballs are normally served as a “tapa” (small dish) with a glass of wine, beer or something stronger in a bar, on a terras and eaten with friends or family.

We work with fresh local ingredients
Order and Delivery The production starts after placing your order. In that way we can guarantee that our Bitterballs & Croquettes and are fresh. The minimum order is 10 Croquettes or 30 bitterballs. For orders over 50 Croquettes or 150 balls, a discount of 10% is applicable. We deliver to individuals, restaurants and bars. The delivery date can be determined in consultation with you. Payment is upon delivery and only in cash.
Quality Guarantee Since we are very proud of our hand/home made products and we guarantee freshness, we have of course a "money back" policy. If for any reason you are not satisfied with our product, you can return the product and we will return to you what you paid for it without any discussion.
Tastings A few times per year, we organize tasting events. During these afternoons / evenings, you can taste our products and have a glass of beer or wine in addition. For these events you need an invitation, which you can apply for.
Original Ideas In case you have an original idea for a Croquette or bitterball, let us know. If we produce it, we will make the first 20 for you for free!
