A letter from your
Club President D
ear Cypress Woods Key Club,
The summer has finally arrived! I know we have all been waiting for this time to come. The summer is a great time to relax and have a fun time. But do you know what else summer is good for? Volunteering and being a part of service, of course! This summer, the officer team and I are going to make sure there are a good amount of service opportunities that you guys can take part in this summer. Some ideas we have already thought about is volunteering at the Houston Food Bank, volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House, fixing up some local parks, and more. If you guys have any ideas, please share them! The more ideas we have, the bigger impact we can make on our spectacular community! Also if there is an organization or a cause that really means a lot to you, this is a perfect opportunity to get many eager-to-volunteer people to help out! I would like to thank you guys for the amazing last Photo provided by Anushua Mantrala. meeting of the year we had. This meeting was filled with service projects that included making cards for children in the hospital, making cards for the military, decorating socks with puffy paint for children in the hospital to play in, and making dog toys for animal shelters. You guys created amazing the service projects. The cards were so thoughtfully made and the socks were so creative with all the designs you guys thought of. It was just such an amazing sight to see all you guys, with y’all’s huge hearts, making sure what you guys were creating was going to make a difference. In this case, the difference would be made for people and cute dogs. More of these meetings are in store for the year! I would also like to thank the officers for making sure everything ran smoothly. It so amazing to see what teamwork can do and I love how Key Club can bring light on the beauty on collaboration. Also, you guys may have noticed that our Key Club has A LOT of members in it. Sometime this large number comes in the way of really getting to know one another. This summer we are definitely taking advantage of all the free time we have and going to be a part of socials. In social, we really get the chance to interact with one another and form friendships. We all know that friends who serve together, stay together! If you guys have any ideas of any fun social we can have, please let us know so we can put those ideas into action!
Yours in in Service,

The article of the month I am proud to annouce goes to Max Zhou, the Junior Secretary of our Key Club! Fantastic job. LEGACY
Key Club Secretary explains every year is an opportunity to leave your mark
L
egacy. O n e of our Key Club’s biggest accomplishments so far is being ranked the Max Zhou number seventh Jr. Secretary Key Club in the Texas-Oklahoma district. It’s times like these where we wonder, “How we can ever live up to that title?” Some of our most diligent workers and officers are graduating, so how can we keep up this expectation? So what’s the answer? We don’t keep up their expectation. Our graduating seniors have done their job maintaining and creating a legacy. Now it’s our turn. Next year is our shot, our turn to make our own legacy. When we look at the 2015-16 school year Key Club, we see hard work and dedication in order to become that
8
number seven. This means for the upcoming year, we’ve got to work harder, volunteer more, lead and teach more, donate more. We want our year to be remembered too, not as “The year after Cypress Woods Key Club achieved seventh place,” but as “The year where ______________ was accomplished.” As of right now, we don’t know what we’ll do. We aren’t sure what’s in store for us, what we’ll accomplish. But we’ll definitely do something big. It doesn’t have to be keeping our seventh place. It can be starting a tradition for years ahead to follow. It can be a fundraiser where we smashed the expectations. It can be the start of a movement, but at the end of the day, one thing’s for sure. We have to strive to be even better than those who taught us. We have to step out from the shadow that’s looming, to do even better. It’s a
legacy: It has that’s been present ever since Key Club started in CyWoods. To do better. To do even more. It’s gotten us to that seventh position. And we can take it even farther. We’ve learned from our predecessors, seen their mistakes. We’ll improve Key Club and make them proud, prove our worth. With the coming of next year, we’ll get more people absorbed into our mission, to serve. We’ll strive to be better, to improve, and eventually, surpass our predecessors. So let us thank our mentors and seniors for the knowledge they’ve passed on to us. Thank you for being patient with us, for working with us, for teaching us. We promise we’ll continue to pass along a great legacy for years to come. What’ll be the legacy we’ll leave behind? We’ll just have to wait and see.
