Avery Louis Richardson May 12, 2016, I created Art Photography Education & Support a.k.a APES, with the intention of developing a new, differentiated identity in the minds of artist and photographers based on a dream I had one May morning. Since that dream, the network has grown and rebranded twice. First, “APES” Photography” which did not require a professional level of skill to join. And now CZAR.DIGITAL NETWORKS, which is purely committed to bringing attention to its members Art Photography Education & Support through mediums like social media, film, digital, phoneography, photography, videos, and magazines.

JAPAN
From late March to mid-April or even early May, photographers around the world come to shoot the iconic cherry blossoms.
From March to late as May in some parts of Japan, like far north Sapporo and Hakodate photographers from around the world travel the country, to the locations where they can shoot the renowned sakura cherry blossoms. Traditionally Japanese stroll the parks, and have picnics and parties to celebrate the coming of spring and “Hanami” flower viewing with friends, families, and nighttime lovers. I’ve traveled to many places in Japan, but my favorite is always to find hidden neighborhoods, parks temples, museums and castles near Nara prefecture. There are plenty of spot for capturing cherry blossoms and watch the beautiful ladies out for a stroll near these famous locations.

Nara Cherry blossoms season roughly starts Mid- March and end mid- to Late April.
One to mention is Nara-Koen Park with its sweeping cherry blossom trees and strangely occupied grounds with the presence of tame unafraid deer. I’m guessing the deer are docile because of the lack nature predators, and also constantly being handfed by the many visitors to the park. Nara-Koen Park is also near the famous Todai-Ji temple and across the road from the Nara National Museum, which holds a very lovely forest backdrop with beautiful ancient sculptures on display near the trees and Museum. Also, Nara Himuro-jinja shine southwest of the museum is another great spot for relaxing and enjoy “Hanami” and popping some cherries with your lens. I’ve had the chance to interview the phonegrapher and here is the Q &A from that scenic hike. When do I go shoot? I go shoot anytime I have some free time. What’s in my bag? I use mostly iPhone camera. I need an extra battery and a cable always. My first camera? I used my father’s camera when I was an elementary school student. What would I like to do? I love creating and designing “Phoneographer hiking tours”. My most recent phoneography designer hiking tour was Enoshima, Japan. Which start with a monorail ride at West Kamakura station where I meet up with my phoneographer hiking participants before we start our 15km hike. We begin our hike into the Kamakura mountains, before resting by Meoto pond for lunch, Then end with our decent into Sasuke shrine, and then JR Kamakura station Memorable experience? Everyone can take beautiful photos at beautiful places, but there are lots of interesting moments in daily life, I find through the camera, this is the greatest experience as phoneography. An advice for starting out photographers? I try to shoot with eyes of your own heart. Which country I choose to shoot? It’s difficult to answer. There are too many countries I haven’t visited yet.

The Shonan Monorail is the first of it kind in Japan, the suspended SAFEGE monorail is located in the cities of Kamakura and Fujisawa Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
Sasuke Inari Shrine is reached by climbing steps that passing through the red flags and Torii gates that ascend to the hidden shrine.

Rochor Centre part of the urban renewal program under the Housing and Development Board, Rochor Centre was built and completed in 1977 to take in residents and businesses that was uprooted across the city. Situated on the fringe of the centre business district in Bugis, Rochor Centre leaves a strong impression on the urban landscape of Singapore with its colourful facades.
Like many other public housing estates that was built during this period, Rochor Centre was designed in a podium-andtower style building that originally housed 567 households and 183 shops. The void deck located on the 4th storey acts as a communal space that cater to the residents’ recreational and social needs, separating the commercial units on the first 3 storey and the residential units from the 5th storey and onward.

When you go for a shoot, what is in your camera bag? Ricoh GRII everywhere, everytime. Were you inspired by other successful photographers? Yes, Daido and Aik Beng Chia from Singapore. What was the first camera that you used? I can’t remember maybe Ricoh film camera from my Dad somewhere in early 80’s. Do you have any projects that you currently doing….or would like to do? Currently compiling some shot on abandon or old estate at Singapore.
What has been your most memorable experience in photography? When I came to Tokyo as it was my first time and really is heaven for street photographers. Do you have any words of advice that you would give to someone just starting out in photography? Just shoot and shoot, wait until a week or two then you look onto all your photos again. you’ll be surprised with the result. When you thought it was good during the

What is the photograph that you’re most proud of – and why? My Black and White photos as they have a really striking and great dramatic feel. If you could only choose one country to photograph in, where would it be? It would be Japan, as I have an akin and deep connection with Japan.

When you go for a shoot, what is in your camera bag? Canon 5D MK 111 I carry two to three lenses, 24mm-70mm, USM L Lens Sigma 85mm Art Lens, a Canon 70mm-200mm USM L Lens series 11, and a Polarized lens for my 70mm-200 Lens. My other accessories are spyder color checker, SD cards, Batteries, two speed lights, a Gary Fong DE fusser for speed lights and a snoot with grill for speed light, Cleaning gear for lens and a reflector. Were you inspired by other successful photographers? Sometimes because there is a lot of great photographers out there. But I also had my own ideas of what I wanted to do and one thing was to break the mold and apply my own creativness guided by my intuition. What was the first camera that you used? It was a cheap plastic film camera I purchased from a service station manny year ago.
“ONE THING WAS TO BREAK THE MOLD” Do you have any projects that you currently doing…. or would like to do? I am working on the HIV Project Book people living with HIV long term survivers and short term aquired, and the emotional imapct it has had on there lives, with my friend Phillip Shipton. What has been your most memorable experience in photography? It would be all the photos I take intuitively taking that photo that really captures feelings and emotion and the person true soul feeling of what there life has been going through and to capture that rather then a black emotionless portrait.

The HIV Book Project is an idea that coalesced out of the volunteer and client relationship established by Ankali in April 2016 between Phillip Shipton and Roy Wilkins. Roy and Phillip are Co-founders of what is loosely called The Project decided to put their words into action in August of 2016. We started formulating a process to document a social history of HIV in Sydney using interviews and portraiture style photography. We believe that it is timely to produce real life documentary evidence of the history and future visions of HIV in Sydney to communicate to the queer and wider community where we have come from as a social group and where we could be going. This in effect can assist with breaking down existing stereotypes of HIV+ people as dirty in the wider community and reveal to current HIV+ people the diversity and trauma in our histories and the variety of futures we wish for. UTION APES “APES”--different in a good way from the other photography groups I had checked out. Different atmosphere. A bubbling sense of creativity, of acceptance of exploration of different ways of seeing, different goals in expression.
I first “met” Avery’s photographs on the National Geographic “Your Shot” site. We commented on each other’s images and became FaceBook friends; both of us felt too confined by the Nat.Geo. environment. Avery collected various friends, digital and otherwise, and started “APES”--different in a good way from the other photography groups I had checked out. Different atmosphere. A bubbling sense of creativity, of acceptance of exploration of different ways of seeing, different goals in expression. As more people joined, I was wondering if this could be maintained; no fear--it was widened and increased. I think Avery’s ideas and constant change of everything--name, banner, goals, members keeps the excitement, the sense of evolution. And where are we going? I don’t know, but somewhere good. Good for the site, the magazine, us, the photographers, and for the people who enjoy our work, our insight, our shared slice of our soul. What’s great is that more is more. The site is more than the components of the parts. Congrats, all (especially Avery), the baby is only one years old, and obviously very special.

When you go for a shoot, what is in your camera bag? Fruit, sandwich, book: poems, Murakami to reread a bit; cell phone, doubling as camera backup. Were you inspired by other successful photographers? I taught History of Photography for some years and discovered Ansel Adams and Jerry Uelsmann--nature and surrealism. ???? Maeda also. What was the first camera that you used? I believe it or not--as a child--my mother’s Brownie--the kind that accordioned out! Then, in college, a Konica. Do you have any projects that you currently doing….or would like to do? Working towards my contribution in a group show, “Alternative Realities”--some of my series of inverted nature photos.

What has been your most memorable experience in photography? In Japan (a life’s dream), I was so pleased and awed by what I saw, that the potential to really see was increased tenfold. As the everyday cataracts dissolved, I could see better, more, and more deeply: what was there, speaking to me-- Symbolic meanings, the heart rhythm of nature.
Do you have any words of advice that you would give to someone just starting out in photography? Don’t be caught up too much in technical aspects: they are only tools, to help you find what you want to capture, express, or create. Keep experimenting. Do some things just for yourself; it will enhance whatever else you do.
If you could only choose one country to photograph in, where would it be? I’ve traveled a lot, and loved much of what I saw, but for me, there is only one country endlessly fascinating, my country, Israel.

What is the photograph that your most proud of – and why? I don’t know! Maybe this: “There were Three Trees”. I think, hope that the composition, the colors, the recognizable aspects, all contribute to meanings beyond the everyday, a fusion of the seen and the unseen.

A GIRL NAMED When you go for a shoot, what is in your camera bag? Canon 6d body; lens 24-70mm and 50mm prime and wide angle 17-40mm; cleaning cloth and brush; filters; release cable and mozzie spray and spare plastic bags. Were you inspired by other successful photographers? Ansel Adams, David Moore What was the first camera that you used? Minolta which was stolen and then a Nikon. Do you have any projects that you currently doing‌.or would like to do? I don’t have a current project but I would like to create a book on my Namibian experience and on street art in Melbourne. What has been your most memorable experience in photography? My Namibian trip in 2015, opened the doors to chasing the light of the amazing sand dunes and photographing the Himba tribe. The result was opening of my eyes and viewing the world in a different way. Do you have any words of advice that you would give to someone just starting out in photography? Believe in your work; explore and be flexible; and use other photographers as inspiration.

What is the photograph that your most proud of – and why? I won a Canon Light Award 2016 Theme No Place like Home. This captured the morning light on the waves and then on the lifeguards that were training. It captured the Aussie summer – water, sun and lifesavers. It was a decisive moment image. If you could only choose one country to photograph in, where would it be? Australia – we have the coasts, mountains, inland, deserts and cities that is made magical regardless of the seasons.

In 2014, I had an opportunity to make a lifestyle change: a move to the outskirts of Melbourne Victoria and a rekindled of my passion in photography. My website ALIVE is translated into ‘Adorjans Life Images Virtual Exploration’. This is a summary of my journey of viewing through the lens. http://sue-adorjan.squarespace.com
“My website ALIVE is translated into ‘Adorjans Life Images Virtual Exploration.” The journey has not been easy as one has to be patience and search for the emotional factor. When nature does not cooperate, then you simply make do with what is there at that moment in time. Now when planning long trips, I allow an extra hour, in case I see that special light and need to pull over and take the shot!! I had subconsciously started with landscapes when I travelled and the pull of mother nature with the coastlands and seas. I also like urban landscapes which led me to take street photography. So in the last two years, I have concentrated on the composition and other factors that brings justice and the wow factors to my images.
