The Global Science Café (GSC) is a series of popular scientific lectures anddebates with the best Czech scientists, innovators and other prominent personalities. The series is shared within the network of the Czech Centres abroad. In2021, these informal discussions about science took place four times, in English and in an online format. All of them were hosted by Michael Londesborough andwere organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering ofthe Czech Technical University in Prague.

THE FOLLOWING MEETINGS WERE HELD AS PART OF GSC

• VIVIDBOOKS (30th March) The fifth part of the GSC series brought a discussion on the use of modern technology in education and the future of education. Guests: Petra Bakajsová & Vítek Škop • ROBOT 100 (8th June) The sixth part of the discussion offered various views of Čapek’s work and his robots. Guests: Jitka Čejková, Jana Horáková, Tomáš Mikolov, František Štěpánek • INSPIRING WOMEN IN SCIENCE (5th October) The seventh part of the cycle presented inspiring women in science. The debate focused on the personal stories of female scientists whose dreams came true in science. Guests: sociologist Marcela Linková, biologist Kateřina Sam, polar ecologist Marie Šabacká • FOOTWEAR DESIGNER OLDŘICH VOYTA (7th December) The footwear designer and the winner of the national final of the FameLab 2021 scientific competition Oldřich Voyta spoke about the connection of art, beauty, craft, modern technology, aesthetics and comfort in creating new footwear collections. Guest: Oldřich Voyta

From May to September 2021, the National Technical Museum presented a part of the Czech Centres project – the Czech Innovation Expo 2018 – dedicated tothehistory of Czech science and technology.
