Vincenzina Caterina Ottomano is tenure-track assistant professor at the University Ca’ Foscari Venice. She studied musicology at the University of Pavia/Cremona (Italy) and Fribourg (Switzerland). She received her PhD in musicology at the University of Bern on The Impact of Russian Opera in France and Italy. Between 2012 and September 2021, she was postdoctoral research assistant and lecturer at the University of Bern (Switzerland). In 2020 she was interim professor at the University of Hamburg. Her publications include Claudio Abbado alla Scala (with Angela Ida De Benedictis; Milano, 2008), the volume Luciano Berio. Interviste e colloqui (Einaudi, 2017) and several articles on Russian and Italian Opera of the 19th Century and on Music Theatre of the 20th and 21st Centuries. She is co-editor of the journal verdiperspektiven, as well as of the Swiss Journal of Musicology For her project Verdi’s Creative Laboratory: a Study of the Composition Process Behind “Falstaff” she has been awarded with The Rotary Club Parma’s “Giuseppe Verdi” International Prize (2019).
Musicologist with a focus on the music history, especially 19th century opera (Meyerbeer, Dvořák, Smetana), librarian, curator of museum collections, researcher, editor and translator. He studied music history and theory at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague and musicology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. He worked at the Institute for Musicology (Institute of Theory and History of Art) at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, the Czech Academy of Sciences, the National Museum – Czech Museum of Music – Bedřich Smetana Museum and the Institute of Art – Theatre Institute in Prague. In 1981 he co-founded the Smetana Days festival and an interdisciplinary symposium on 19th century history and culture in Pilsen, and in 1991 he was one of the founding members of the Meyerbeer-Institut based in Thurnau and a member of its international editorial team. He is currently a Fellow of the Foundation for the History of Culture in Central Europe and a member of the editorial team of the critical edition of the correspondence of Bedřich Smetana.
