EDITOR’S LETTER

Welcome to the second edition of Proto; proto comes from the Greek word for “first,” and is commonly associated with the English word prototype, referring to an early draft, an original that can evolve into anything. And like a true prototype, Proto exists as a constantly evolving project without restrictions on subject or form. What Proto is today is not necessarily what Proto will be next in its next issue. Working on Proto gives me freedom to pursue endeavors that my other work prevents me from engaging in. The Rebel Chique issue of Proto is a synthesis of back-street reality, style and fashion. D•Dutch, Verde and Stylist Kyley J Winn meet again and continue to transform wonderful models into Proto Rebels. -d

When stylist Kiley J. Winn decided to move from Wichita, Kansas to New York at age 21, he became well known for his talent and attracted a steadily growing following in the local community. News of his skills as a makeup artist and hair designer with intuitive fashion sense has traveled far beyond his own network via the tales of impressed clients. With an outgoing and approachable personality and an eclectic sense of personal style, he has created custom looks for various occasions including runways, weddings, photo shoots and performances. He creates styles that work not only for the client, but also with them. Kiley’s clients walk away with looks inspired by themselves, from their features to their lifestyles. “I really love the self confidence makeup and hair gives someone. It’s almost an out of body experience for the client. They are looking at a superstar, and they know it is them.” A dancer, model and public speaker, Kiley has hosted a variety of charity events and is a born master of ceremonies. In his own presentation Kiley is an original down to the last accessory. His range in the style spectrum – from theatrical to understated – has made his image unexpected and ever-evolving. On a given day his look reflects his mood of the moment and often produces a magnetic presence. Well rounded in his style expertise, Kiley has an extensive high fashion background includes working for brands like Dolce and Gabbana and Etro; he is also experienced in the field of visual merchandising.

About Kiley: The phrase “I AM!” isn’t meant 2 b cocky. It is me, It also doesn’t changewho i was, or who I will be! I am a confident person, sometimes 2 real...but as my friends will tell u... He’s a BITCH. no jus kidding, but sometimes! Get 2 Kno me and come 2 ur own conclusions. Who I’d like to meet: A person with a personality! some confidence, and some kind of style! General I’m interested in a variety of things... mainly Fashion, styling, make-up... all aspects of the industry! Music every thing from David Bowie to 2 live crew! If it’s dance-worthy i’m all over it! Movies I’ve made a couple...probably in the dollar bin @ stop n shop! Grab 5 dollaz worth! No really I love movies... MAD MAX beyond thunderdome... We don’t need another hero! Television I watch alot of things: Strangers with candy, unsolved mysteries... lol no really! I like reality shows like The City! I like Whitney. It’s hot that, that reality is theirs* Books I should read more books... maybe i’ll try something on disc.. I do stay up on the latest via Vogue, Details, and Nylon! Heroes I try 2 b somewhat of an inspiration in my everyday life. However This guy was my hero when he gave me his discount @ Dolce! That worx...
