BLINN COLLEGE - SPRING ATHLETIC GUIDE 2021
WELCOME FROM THE CHANCELLOR CONTENTS Dear Buccaneer fans, On behalf of the Blinn College District, I welcome you to another great season of Buccaneer athletics as we continue a proud legacy that includes 41 national championships since 1987. In addition to their success in intercollegiate competition, Blinn students enjoy a supportive community at a campus that continues to grow. In recent years, the Blinn-Brenham Campus has welcomed the Kruse Center, a 36,000-square-foot student recreation and activities center that also hosts Buccaneer volleyball and basketball games; the Doyle Coatney Center, an 11,184-square-foot indoor baseball and softball workout facility; and Mill Creek Hall, a 464-bed residence hall. This year, construction is underway on the new science, technology, engineering, and innovation building that will offer state-of-the-art instructional space for Blinn’s most cutting-edge programs. This exciting facility includes a 3,000-square-foot innovation lab and allows Blinn to introduce innovative programs such as cybersecurity and drone maintenance and repair. These new courses will add to Blinn’s reputation as one of the state’s leading community colleges. According to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board data, Blinn’s academic transfer rate ranks No. 1 in the state and far exceeds the statewide average. Just as importantly, out-of-district Blinn students save 44% in tuition and fees compared to the average state university. Few colleges can offer this combination of educational excellence and affordability. Thank you for supporting the Blinn College District and its student athletes. I wish you the best of luck during the upcoming season.

BLINN COLLEGE - SPRING ATHLETIC GUIDE 2021
HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER DONNA JONES Blinn student athletes received a veteran athletic trainer in their corner when Donna Jones joined the Bucs in 2009. Jones had been a key member of the Texas A&M University athletic training staff since July 1990. Originally the sole provider of athletic training coverage for all of women’s athletics, Jones witnessed a tremendous amount of growth in athletic training and sports coverage. The veteran athletic trainer was recognized at the 2002 National Athletic Trainers Association annual meeting for serving in the field of athletic training for the previous 25 years. Born and raised in South Houston, Jones graduated from South Houston High School in 1975. She played softball for Texas A&M in 1977-78. She also worked as a student athletic trainer from 1977-1981. In 1979, Jones graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. Following graduation and her apprenticeship in athletic training, Jones
accepted a position with Houston ISD, where she worked for eight years. She then spent one year as an athletic trainer at Rice University before returning to A&M. Jones also returned to the classroom and completed her Master’s of Education (Health Education) in 1993. A nationally certified member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and a state licensed athletic trainer, Jones has spent countless hours as an advocate for the health and well-being of student athletes. She was instrumental in the development of the Eating Disorders Protocol for the Texas A&M Athletic Department and has advised and encouraged other universities in the development of their protocols. Jones has two sons, one daughter-in-law, two granddaughters, Hallie and Scarlett, and two grandsons, Asher and Alex. Her son, Mark, is a contract construction worker, and especially enjoys framing homes. Her son Matt is a computer technologist for Dignity Health. Her daughter-in-law Jessica is a pharmacy doctor and manages the ICU unit at St. Joseph’s in Bryan. In her spare time, Jones loves to spoil her grandchildren and to sing.
The Sports Medicine team at Blinn College is dedicated to the prevention of injury and keeping athletes healthy, striving to provide quality healthcare services to all studentathletes in the intercollegiate athletic program at Blinn College. Under the direction of head athletic trainer Donna Jones, the Blinn College Sports Medicine staff provides comprehensive medical services to 10 intercollegiate teams and more than 300 student-athletes. In addition to a head athletic trainer, the staff includes two assistant athletic trainers, two team surgeons, and 15 student athletic trainers to provide education, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and referral to the student-athletes that attend Blinn College.
