My lovely Kiwis! Ahh...this is my last introduction! It’s been a wonderful term this past year serving as YOUR Lieutenant Governor. This journey has been a rollercoaster ride. First and foremost, I would like to thank all the Kiwanians and adults who have supported us throughout this year. Without them, we would not have been able to have such amazing events and activities. Second, I would like to thank all the club officers for working so hard to run club meetings, host service projects, fundraise for PTP and Eliminate, and hosting DCMs. You have all made a difference in your clubs. Finally, I would like to thank everyone. We are all leaders, and each one of us is important and crucial to this Division. Without you, we would not have been able to serve 11,811 hours and fundraise $8,092.47 for PTP and The Eliminate Project. Together, we have grown as members, as clubs, and as one division. I am truly proud to call you my home and my Kiwi family. See you at DCON!

FRN is when all of the divisions within your district meet up and it’s really cool seeing how many people are in key club.”

Marchâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Service Initiative
The Spotlight on Service Program was created to educate Cali-Nev-Ha Key Clubbers about the Key Club International as well as Cali-Nev-Ha Service Initiatives and encourage active participation with/for the organizations and initiatives. A service Initiative is assigned each month in which clubs should focus a project or two on supporting the initiative.

March of Dimes
Premature death is a very serious and common problem. Every day, 1 in 8 babies born in the U.S. arrives too soon. This monthâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s focus is on March of Dimes. March of Dimes is a wonderful organization that strives to help moms have full-term pregnancies and give birth to healthy babies. Through donations this organization is able to spread awareness, provide comfort and further research regarding the health of babies.

CLUB REPORTS Alameda
This month, Alameda Key club held elections for the new officers that will be working in the next term! The events we went to are the Alameda Kiwanis 16th Annual Chili Cookoff, which raised a large amount of money, the OACC Elements of Rhythm, and tutoring at elementary schools. Weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve given out ornaments that were hand made to members so that they can sell them for more fundraising. So far, weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve raised around $48 with the ornaments sold. We plan on going to the OMCA for more volunteer events. Also, there is a food fair coming up and we also plan to participate there.
Albany
This month, Albany had many service events, including our monthly Kiwanis Park Clean Up, of which we had two events. We also attended the MLK Day of Service, as well as the Conclave. To finish off the month, we participated at four performances of AhLan Dance, a dancing company that specialized in traditional Asian dances. We also had our elections, and we are all so excited to welcome the new board! 13
American Indian Public
In January, American Indian Public attended Conclave and voted for our upcoming LTG. Moreover, we also held our club elections and are currently training the new officers. We also attended the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon & 5K to help pass out finisher medals. Currently, American Indian is planning to fundraise money for the club through selling Valentineâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s treats.
Arroyo
This month Arroyo Key Club focused more on fundraising while also partaking in fun events! We finished elections after coming back from winter break and have already determined next termâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s board, who are very excited to be Key Club officers! We had two big, successful fundraisers: an 8/12 fundraiser where over 50 people attended and our Kiwanis Takeover! We also had fun events, such as the Kiwanis Crab Feed and the Starlight Ball where Key Clubbers served food in both events. 14
Berkeley
On December 13 we volunteered at Berkeley High Schoolâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Holiday Meal to feed and give clothing donations to those in need. Then on December 20 we bagged oranges at Alameda Food Bank. On the 21 we went to DWS: Studio One Clean-Up. Finally, on December 27 we had a bake sale on Fourth Street.
Castro Valley
Although we had finals in January, Key Clubbers were still persistent with their service! Due to winter break and dead week, we missed nearly two weeks of events in the month of January, but we still had many events, including a couple of science fairs, sandwich making, and a bake sale! With the plentiful of elementary schools around Castro Valley, we attended the Marshall Science Fair and aided kids in their science projects every Wednesday for 4 weeks. Sandwich making is always a blast, and we made sure there was no jam to put the Salvation Army in a sticky situation this time! And finally, our bake sale was a success because we raised $200! 15
El Cerrito
This month we had a pancake breakfast that we attended, a winter carnival fundraiser, and planning on attending a college workshop in Hayward. There is also elections for board members a week after we get off Winter Vacation.
Encinal
This month we helped out at the Alameda Food Bank and at our Kiwanisâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Annual Chili Cook-Off. We are starting to prepare the new board for the new term. We are planning future fundraisers as well.

Leadership Public
In January, Key Club LPS Hayward hosted one event in which we sent Valentine Day cards for teachers at our school. This was a way to express gratitude for the knowledge that they have taught us over the first half of this school year.
Oakland
It’s been a great month for Oakland High’s Key Club. Our school has participated in various events such as Sasaul Creek, Life is Living, Campus Cleanup, Trybe’s Halloween Event and much more. Once again, with the participation of many dedicated members, we’ve fulfilled the minimum goal of having at least 100 service hours. With all the engagement this month, we’ve pulled through with over 238 hours of service! We are happy our club is going strong and we are looking forward to many more projects/service events in the upcoming months.

Oakland Technical
For the past month weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve been going to services like Uhuru at the farmers market, helping at our own home school and much more. We also had a clean up that was hosted by Councilman Noel Gallo. For the past month we also had elections and have our new elect board and canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t wait to see them in action!
Piedmont
Recently, members from our club attended several service events including the beautification of the Morcom Rose Garden for the MLK Day of Service and the annual Crab Feed hosted by the Cerebral Palsy Center. We also attended Conclave and the January DWS-turned-bonding-event, both of which allowed us to meet new people and participate in fun bonding activities. Although we will not be attending DCON, we are very excited to say we have elected our executive board for the 2015-2016 term. We promise to train our officers well and make the most out of the remainder of this term! 18
San Leandro
This month San Leandro High’s Key Club had many fun events. We had the chance to volunteer at the 15th Annual Crab and Pasta Feed, Kiwanis Annual Crab Feed, Knit for Charity, and Oakland Zoo Arroyo Viejo Creek Clean Up. In the next month, we look forward to our very own Annual Awake-a-thon hosted by our club! Proceeds made from the event will go to George Mark’s Children’s Home, so we look forward to everyone coming out!
Skyline
This has been a rough month for a club. We’ve been focusing on elections recently so we only had two service events. One that is mentioned in the article attached below and another we had just this weekend with all the other service clubs at our school. We cleaned up our local park and then afterward had a social.

AhLan Dance
For a double-day service event, Albany Key Clubbers helped out two performances of Ah Lan dance. The performance told multiple stories through traditional dances of various nationalities. Members split up with different duties â&#x20AC;&#x201C; some worked with the audience, ushering them into the theatre while handing out programs, or checking for tickets on the balcony and keeping the guests quiet during the show. Other members acted as assistants to the directors, helping the dancers with costumes and timing. The dance consisted of dancers from the age of toddlers to adults, but, no matter the age, everyone needs help with time cues. Members also helped out back stage, keeping props organized and neat, ready for the next change in the performance. It was a beautiful show and it was a lot of fun to help make it happen!
Valentine Cards
Daniel S., LPS Hayward This month was aimed towards giving gratitude and thanks to the teachers who put in the hard work to prepare us for college every day. We decided to make Valentine Day Cards for them, in which we incorporated drawings and color. The officers helped bring supplies like color paper, colored pencils, markers, glue, and scissors to assist everyone with what they needed. Through this, the members conjured up a total of approximately 50 cards total for all of our teachers. Creativity was of key importance in this event. One of our teachers was obsessed with cats, so it would be natural that we drew cats on their cards. This local (at our school) event also drew more than 20 people to come to our event. It was a success and a fun afternoon for both the students and the teachers. 21
KIWANIS CRAB FEED Arriving in the afternoon, a small group of Arroyo and San Leandro Key Clubbers helped set up for the 101st Kiwanis Crab Feed. We evenly distributed plates, utensils, moist towelettes, salt and pepper, empty KFC buckets, and bowls of marinara sauce along 8 rows of tables and double-checked to see if we missed anything. After we finished setting up, we left and came back a few hours later before the actual event began. As a bigger group of Arroyo and San Leandro Key Clubbers, we were divided into teams of three and were assigned a certain row to serve while a select few were assigned kitchen duty. After playing a short, fun icebreaker and eating pizza provided by our lovely kiwanians, we were then put into action as servers! The first dishes we served were salad and garlic bread, which people ate happily. We then served delicious, creamy lasagna while cleaning up trash and refilling salad and garlic bread. Next was the main dish of the night: crab. With buckets of crab distributed evenly along all the rows, everyone digged in and enjoyed their meal to the fullest. Every time a bucket was close to being empty, servers refilled it with even more crab, and every time a KFC bucket was close to being full of crab shells, servers emptied it out in a trash can. As people were finishing up their meal, there was a raffle drawing where three lucky contestants earned cash prizes! Also, there was a live band playing wonderful music. People started to dance and break it down on the floor, and it became a lively night! Volunteers even joined in on the fun as well and did the electric slide! After the event ended, we cleaned up the tables and threw away all the trash. We then stacked all the chairs and put the tables away, and a few people also washed serving spoons in the kitchen. After cleanup, volunteers were lucky and very grateful to receive leftover crab! It was indeed a spectacular night well spent.

Stanton Science Fair

Those who are kids right now are going to become great leaders one day, whether it is through Key Club or any other way. We need to help them develop and aid them with their creative minds! In elementary school, kids are probably in their prime of creativity. They can think of anything! That’s why the Stanton Science Fair was so cool! We got to help them with what they chose as their science projects, and it was super duper fun. Remember when we got the chance to do fun science projects and present it to our class? It’s too bad my class didn’t get help from awesome Key Clubbers, but that’s okay. For an hour every Wednesday for four weeks, we headed to Stanton Elementary School to help them do their projects and make a posterboard. Some projects included learning how muscles tire out and how dust catchers work. Helping people learning is truly rewarding. Not only are they learning from their projects, but we also developed skills on how to communicate with kids! Overall, it was a great experience, and science fairs are definitely one of our favorite events!
A little before seven o’clock on the morning of February 1st, twenty members from American Indian Public arrived at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park for a service-filled day of cheering, as well as passing out finisher medals, to the participants who made it past the finish line. Although the cold and windy weather struck early in the morning, we were determined to serve as great volunteers for the participants in the half marathon and 5K. With our bright lime green pompoms, we cheered and shouted encouraging words to the participants who were steps away from reaching the finish line. Individuals of all ages were running for a cause that held deep to their hearts; not only was their determination inspiring, but it made the event extremely enjoyable because we knew that the run held value toward many. The opportunity to interact with the runners as well as provide encouragement to those persevering ultimately made the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon and 5K an eye-opening service event for us to experience. Because we had so much fun, the tiredness didn’t faze us whatsoever! The joy of service and bonding with fellow key clubbers created a service-filled day which the club and runners appreciated! 24

Howdy Kiwis!
I guess we’ve made it back to the good old U.S. of A. It’s been a good year Kiwis; we’ve had our ups and downs, but our division has emerged even stronger and closer than ever. I’m so proud of everything that we’ve accomplished this year; you all should be proud of all the hard work, time, and passion you’ve put into your clubs, this division, and our district. I hope you’ve all learned something this term, whether it’s about your club’s strengths and weaknesses or about yourself as a person. Being your Division News Editor been a crazy, stressful, and wonderful experience and I’d have it no other way. I encourage all of you to look into a position on the Division Leadership Team; I’ve had some of the best times of my life with this group of people and have learned and grown more than I could have ever imagined. It’s been an incredible honor to have been your DNE for these past 9 months. I hope that you’ve enjoyed these issues of the Kiwi Chronicles; I’ve truly enjoyed making them. Now for the last time...
