Origa-Mi Amour (OMA) Article #1 Written by Chaylin Polines, LTG

Division 14 had its first “Week of Service” event. Throughout this week of service was a recurring Zoom meeting that members could pop in and out of throughout the week to participate in the varying daily projects. To kick start the week was Origa-Mi Amour. This virtual service group recorded an origami tutorial to donate to hospitals, elementary schools, daycares, etc. as an instructional craft resource. After learning how to master this Japanese art of folding paper, the participating members collected their crafted hearts and donated them to Emerald Oaks Retirement Home. 9

Love Letters (LL) Article #2 Written by Chaylin Polines, LTG

Continuing with Division 14’s “Week of Service”, day two was dedicated to writing love letters and E-Cards to different organizations. E-Cards are digitally made cards that are donated online to the receivers. Our members donated “Thank You” E-Cards to Essential Covid Workers and “Happy Valentine’s Day” cards to Saint Jude’s hospital patients. Some physical cards were donated to Emerald Oaks by River Valley. Other cards were given to Beale Air Force Base and distributed to various organizations such as Sutter Estates Community Retirement, Summerfield Senior Living, Eskaton Retirement, Yuba City Retirement, and Grass Valley homes.

Love Bites (LB) Article #3 Written by Chaylin Polines, LTG

Day three of Division 14’s “Week of Service” was called “Love Bites”. This day was dedicated to baking Valentine’s treats together over Zoom. Some members brought their own mouth-watering recipes and some followed the provided recipe given in the event by their LTG. Arushi made banana bread, Serena and Caitlin baked some tasty cakes, Kylie whipped up some brownies, Maliny steamed a Cambodian jello like cake that she grew up, Chaylin made cookies, and finally Caitlin and Chaylin both followed the provided recipe for blondies! However, just baking these desserts alone didn’t count for any service unless they were donated in part two of this virtual service project. 11

Love thy Neighbor (LTN) Article #4 Written by Chaylin Polines, LTG

Following Day three of Division 14’s “Week of Service” was part two of “Love Bites” that we called “Love thy Neighbor”. On this fourth day of the virtual serving week members delivered their previously baked goods. Before donating, members made sure to clarify any possible allergen components in their treats and of course following the Covid safety precautions. Some were gifted to Handy-Men, families who had a lost loved one, religious volunteers and workers, or even children’s organizations. Most were donated to neighbors. Therefore, we LOVE thy Neighbors.

Puppy Love (PL) + DCM Article #1 Written by Chaylin Polines, LTG

The last day of this “Week of Service” was called Puppy Love. Following February’s Division Council Meeting, members answered a few questions on FreeKibble.com to provide free kibble and pet supplies to animal shelters. However, after realizing that it wasn’t a constant trivia game, members quickly turned their attention to playing “Bean Bean Bean”, “Free Rice”, and “Math for UNICEF” that all similarly donates benefits to organizations by answering questions.
