Happy Back-To-School Belugas!

Wow! The first quarter of the 2021-2022 term is over and we are officially moving into the busiest Key Club season of the year. I am so excited to see all of you finally back volunteering in-person. Please keep your eyes peeled for exciting new fundraisers and division service projects coming your way. Although this time of year may be crazy and stressful, remember that our Key Club family is always here for you. Support those around you belugas, and always carry yourself with the Key Club core values. Also, please buy our homemade cheesecake and cookies. Yours in Service,

Hello!

It’s back to school season, Key Clubbers, aka the most dreaded time but also the most fun time for shopping and prepping. This is also the busiest time in Key Club! Fall rally, region night market, and in person service events and DCMs are happening so soon! Personally, I am extremely excited as it will be my first time going to many of these events. So, after a long summer of prepping and year of online activities, it’s time to transition back to the Key Club we fell in love with. With Gratitude,

Katelynn Situ News Editor 2021-2022

i l b i h G C T O i d u t S Therese Mendiola | Colony Our Divisions hosted their OTC ! I found a much better understanding of my job as an officer and was happy to do my job with a much clearer picture that OTC painted out for me. I also learned other information that was not only useful for key club, but useful for me to use in general. I learned a lot about public speaking (hosted by Ahsley Ma) and learned what is professional and what is not. After presentations were over, I got to talk with Ashley and others a bit more. I was happy to connect with people from our division and connect with other people besides the West side division. Overall, I’m happy with what the Lt. governors put together and I think they did a fantastic job putting the whole OTC together !

Kellin Vu | Chino Hills The Officer Training Conference plus June DCM was such a great experience! I got to learn so much more about Key Club altogether as a club, but also some tips and advice on how to specifically perform my role as tech editor for my home club. There were extremely great suggestions and information given out, and I truly believe that I left the conference/DCM more enlightened about Key Club and excited to be an officer. The confederence/ DCM had some wonderful guidance provided and has really got me ready for the upcoming year where we hopefully will be able to do more in-person. Jianan (Sunny) Chen | Chino Hills Hey there Key Club! This is Jianan (Sunny) Chen with my experience at the Studio Ghibli themed OTC! Overall, it is an engaging and informative time with not only the officers from our home school key club-the Chino Hills High School Key Club, but also other officers from schools within our division. During the first part in the main room, as a spirit coordinator, it seems like the icebreaker game turned out well as the participants are actively texting and reacting in the chat box! Moving on to the instructional part of the meeting, everyone was paying attention and asking questions when there were confusions towards different areas of the covered material which in my opinion, is a great way to insert guidance while still having a lot of fun, to the officers in training! In conclusion, this OTC is very successful in delivering important knowledge towards the participants and is also very entertaining in the meantime. I personally had a wonderful time in theOTC, thank you!

BOARD BONDING

While enjoying the rays of summer and break from school, Key Club officer boards have also been busily meeting and planning for the upcoming school year! Many events like Club Rush, in-person events, and socials require thoughtful and long planning (plus all the technical tasks!). Alot of hard work is being put in for the smoothest and best term! Ria Parikh, Katelynn Situ, and Julia Gonzalez had an early 9:00 AM meeting (yes, that’s early!) to check up and talk about fuundraisers.

Micah Santos | Daimond Ranch We had a picnic at the park. Everyone brought food, and we got to bond about combined interests, hobbies, and visions/goals for Key Club. We also played fun games, like Liar’s Monopoly and Speed (card game). Everyone on the council was able to be more comfortable around each other and develop a deeper connection.

Annie Ly | Montclair At Second Chance Thrift Shop, revenue goes to the support, care, and adoption of animals at the Friends of Upland Animal Shelter. Although we didn’t get to see any cute animals, we were ecstatic to volunteer there as Service for a Second Chance was our club’s very first planned service event of the term! There, we helped the employees clean the store, reorganize merchandise, and even help some of the customers. The event turned out to be very successful and we were given much praise from the employees themselves :D It was such a nice experience to socialize with other people all the while helping out a good cause!

Ashley Jung | Ayala This event was super easy and accessible for all members to do. Tappy Tree is an idle clicker game or app on our phones where the player taps to plant virtual trees, which then turns into real life trees! I would play this game whenever I had free time wherever I went and it warmed my heart to know that every click transferred into something bigger in the real world. At home events tend to be difficult to find because of quarantine since we are not able to do as much inperson events, but Tappy Tree is an amazing option for everyone to earn hours by helping our environment one click at a time!

Jianan (Sunny) Chen | Chino Hills Colony hosted a game night and at the event, we played an ice breaker game of gartic phone, which was absolutely hilarious seeing the different interpretations of images and phrases created by other members. Then, we split amongst three different breakout rooms in the meeting consisting of three different games to each member’s liking: Among Us, Minecraft, and Genshin Impact! We got to know each other personally, talking about our common interests, why we joined Key Club, and about gaming topics, of course! We ended the meeting with hopes to play together and talk with each other in the future, and took pictures together to remember this memorable and significant day that brought pure joy to our not-so-fun-summer!

Micah Santos | Daimond Ranch The counsel made posters for upcoming school events to advertise Key Club. We worked on posters and fliers using digital software and stationary. We had paints, markers, glitter, and more. Everyone had a lot of fun talking to each other while creatively expressing themselves through art.
