Sienna Villalobos | Montclair

The April DCM was a learning experience for me. As my term had just started I felt a little lost when it came to planning. But with support from my home club officers I was able to piece together activities and materials for the DCM. The DCM itself was an amazing turn out with close to 40 members attending. My highlight was announcing my DLT and seeing their clubs cheer for them. I hope to create a more spirited energy as my term goes on.

Jasmin Palacios | Colony

The April DCM that was held on Saturday, April 23rd was the first DCM of the next term! The DCM was based on the theme of “Springing into the new term” and this event allowed key clubbers to connect in-person, through games, easter egg hunts, and even being able to participate in COLOR-A-SMILE! Jasmin Palacios, newly elected Vice President of Colony High School stated that “Honestly, the April DCM was really enjoyable. I liked the icebreaker as I was able to meet more of our members from Colony and got free chocolate. I was able to present our club's beluga business as Vice President for the first time and I felt involved. My favorite part was the DLT results as three officers and one member from Colony made it onto the board and I could not be more thrilled that my best friend Anette is now the D15W News Editor. Overall, I am really proud of Yahir, our LTG for doing such a wonderful job with the Montclair board on creating this DCM.” As can be seen , those who attended were able to make new memories and feel involved in the first DCM of the new term.

Sienna Villalobos | Montclair Montclair takes the reins into the next term by heading straight off into a service event for the city! The tasks involved: prepping the supplies needed (syrup, butter, fork, napkins), selling the breakfast, packaging the pancakes, serving them, and supervising games. Although it sounds like a strenuous amount of work, the crew of eleven all had fun together, even if they weren’t at the same stations. President Ciara Towns helped package the pancakes, while Alexis Sabandol and Yahir Perez played with the children, most notably in the bunny area. Annie Ly helped sell the pancake breakfasts, and at the end of the event, all eleven members got to enjoy fresh, homey, and tasty pancakes together. The event had been a success; a true, perfect eggstravaganza.

Sienna Villalobos | Montclair With the new term still new and unexplored, it is in everyone’s best interest to start it off strong! This year at Montclair Key Club, it’s guaranteed that the club will have a propitious year. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Key Club Pledge and swiftly rolled off into the six new officers introducing themselves and being welcomed into the arms of the future. After the regular announcements finished, Mrs. Coble, the club supervisor, celebrated Dr. Kinley, our assigned Kiwani, with flowers and a warm thank you. It was a heartwarming sight, as Dr. Kinley has supported Montclair Key Club wholeheartedly. Mrs. Coble then recognized two outstanding members in the club: Yahir Perez and Annie Ly. They were rewarded with a certificate and a beluga stuffed animal. Their dedication to the club has been impeccable, so seeing them both get recognized was a touching, well-deserved moment. Needless to say, with the encouragement and excitement of the first meeting of the new term, this year will be full of prosperity.

Simranjeet Dhillon | Colony During the month of April, Kiwanis held their annual Car Show, one of their largest events of the year. Simranjeet Dhillon, newly elected Webmaster for Colony High School attended and stated that “On Saturday, I attended my first community service event, the Kiwanis Car Show. I enjoyed seeing the many types of vehicles and how they tended to reflect the personality of the owner. I began the day by receiving quick training on what I would be doing for the next four hours. I was initially stressed and overwhelmed by the large number of customers that bought nachos from me, but I quickly adjusted and was able to accomplish my job swiftly and efficiently. Many of out things were sold out within two and a half hours, so we were able to take a small snack break. I ate Lays and drank lime Gatorade. We were able to walk to another vending tent after our break, where I was able to purchase a shirt. We found that our assistance was no longer required, so I went out with my girlfriend, Jasmin Palacios, to have Chamango sorbet. This sorbet was perfect for a hot day. We went down to the Chino library after we finished eating and had to say our goodbyes before returning home.” Through Simranjeet’s experience, it can be seen that this event allowed members to become more comfortable whilst alongside Kiwanis and other volunteers to serve the customers.

Jaden Nguyen | Ayala During the first week of May, Kiwanis held a special event to award the Kiwanis Scholarship to those who were chosen to receive the award. This event was held at a local Sizzlers where kiwanis and division key clubbers gathered together. Jaden Nguyen, D15W Service Project Coordinator, attended this event and stated that “by going to my first in person Kiwanis DCM event I was met with a welcoming atmosphere from my peers in D15 and Kiwanis. We talked and ate while reviving updates on different key clubs and their progress. It was an enjoyable event and I hope to attend the next one, hopefully with some familiar faces”. This experience from one of the attendees shows that by having frequent events for Kiwanis and Key clubbers alike can help further connections in the club and create a space where personal club progress can be shared.

Derek Callen| Ayala I assisted the American Sign Language performance through Ayala's key club on April 9th. Upon getting to the gym where the performance was at, I was greeted by Daniel (our head of publicity) where he directed us to help where needed. I was assigned to help set up concessions and organize as time went on. I enjoyed the event as I was surrounded by other key club members as well as a friendly ASL staff. The performance itself had a great environment to it and everyone seemed to have a good time. I would recommend this event to anyone wishing to participate Ayala's different extracurriculars through key club.
