Key Club Pledge With the beginning of the new school year, Key Club is having meetings in person or on Zoom again. Before every meeting, someone always recites the Key Club pledge. It might have been a while since your last meeting, so just in case you forgot:

I pledge, on my honor, Key to uphold the Objects of Club International; l and to build my home, schoo community; orld; to serve my nation and w hich and combat all forces w tend to undermine these institutions.

LTG’S NOTE Happy September Belugas!

I hope you are all doing well and adjusting to the new in-person learning environment. It can get tough at times, so always make sure you take a deep breath and rest. I am so proud of the progress each individual club has made these past few months, and I am so excited to see all the new members our division has had the chance to welcome. We will be transitioning into in-person events starting very soon, and I can’t wait to see and bond with all of you. Please take this opportunity to get more involved on the division and region level. You never know where and when you will experience YOUR “Key Club Moment”! Yours in Service,

Ashley Ma

A LETTER FROM YOUR EDITOR

Hello Back to School Belugas! As many of you are already back to school or not starting until later (lucky), I wish you all the most successful year! I feel like Key Club “season” is finally starting and we will finallly get to enjoy all the service and socials we missed during quarantine. That also means you might be getting busier, with school and balancing all your extracirriculars. My advice as an incoming junior, who’s already so stressed out, is to prioritize your mental health (aka SLEEP) and doing things you are passionate about. This issue is back- to-school/ scrapbook theme because I hope we can all make this school year a memorable and effiecient year! Best Regards,

Katelynn Situ News Editor 2021-2022

KEY CLUB D E N I A EXPL

In the simplest terms, Key Club is an international club that provides members with opportunnities for service, leadership, and social events. It starts from club level, to division, district and international (explained below). It sounds daunting, but the easiest way to get invovled starts with you in your school club. By joining your home club, you already have access to service hours, super fun social events, and recognition.

CLUB

Your school club! Hosts service events, officer board, social events. Great way to stay involved in your community and earn service.

Key Club cannot function without any of these pillars, especially the members. They are the foundation of the spirit Key Club embodies.

Division

District

Includes schools from around your school. Together, host bigger exciting events with more people! Leadership positions, service, friends!

Includes 80 districts led by student leaders! Hosts big events (DCON), contests, awards, projects; highly encourage everyone to participate!

We are Division 15 West (D15W)

CNH (CA-NV-HI)

Key Club International

Student led council that trains and helps district govenors. Provides us members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

July DCM

t h g i N e m a G W 5 D1

During the July DCM Game Night, participants were put into breakout rooms to play Scribbl.io and Geoguesser. However, Geoguesser ended up being so fun that we just played it the entire time! The group above shows all smiles after reaching an overall high score. They also guessed a location that was less than one mile away from the actual location! 10

Much recognition was given at the July DCM. Congrats to Montclair High School for “Club of the Month,” Annie Ly for “Officer of the Month,” and Alexis Sabandal for “Member of the Month!”

CHINO CONCERTS

Towards the end of summer, Key Clubbers attended their first in person division event at the Chino Civic Center Lawn to help the Chino Kiwanians run the event smoothly! Amaka Chukwu | Chino Hills Volunteering at the Chino Concerts on the Lawn was a great start and opening to in person events. I had been able to work with other key clubbers and members of our officer board in making burgers, nachos and selling drinks. Everyone was very nice and energetic throughout the whole event and were very helpful if there were any confusion. I am happy I had the time along with being given the opportunity to help out Key Club more through this event and see other members try and take part in the events too. I cannot wait for more in person events to take way since volunteering at the small booth of the Chino Concerts was a huge success! :) Yahir Perez| Montclair The Chino Concerts were such an incredibly fun experience! We got the chance to help the Chino Kiwanis prepare and sell foods and drinks with incredible live music playing in the back. When we weren’t busy running around, we got to chat, eat, and just genuinely have a good time with each other! I was able to make so many fun memories and form stronger friendships with the people there that wouldn’t have been possible just a couple of months ago.

Catherine Vargas | Daimond Ranch On July 29th, the Key Club council and I met up with our advisor, Ms. Wickwire, to work on our club posters. Our plan was to showcase our posters at the sophmore/freshman registration in order to advertise our club. The poster-making sessions themselves were really fun and enjoyable! I was excited to have the opportunity to bond and connect with my fellow club members over the summer vacation. Our posters were ocean-themed, since the mascot of D15W is a beluga. I had so much fun making posters that I barely noticed our postermaking sessions were over! Overall, I’m more excited than ever to work with my wonderful fellow council members this year, and host other fun events as well themselves :D It was such a nice experience to socialize with other people all the while helping out a good cause!

Therese Mendiola | Colony Service week event was nice! A lot of different games to play throughout the week. It was nice to take time out of my day and spend some time playing the games each day had planned. It felt even better to play the games knowing it was gonna make a difference. I was even on the plane and decided to play Tuesday’s event, Shave the Day game on the plane ride there, making lots of money for people with cancer. Overall, the event was nice and fun to play with !

Annie Ly | Montclair

On 07/30, 08/02, and 08/03, Montclair Key Club was given the opportunity to promote Key Club at registration and Freshman orientation. We were able to provide them insight into what being in Key Club is like alongside fresh donuts and duvalins! It was very exciting to talk to everyone, especially the freshmen, and to see all the different ways Key Club interested them. While it was very tiring and sweaty, the outreach and interest we garnered was definitely worth it all! We’re all looking forward to what this term has in store for us!

Angelina Phan | Daimond Ranch This month, we set up a key club booth during freshman registration to advertise our club and recruit new members. We had 2 clipboards with sign up sheets and a bowl of dum dums as candy treats. As students walked by, we asked them if they would be interested in joining key club. We also told them about our club, what we do, and handed out flyers. After 6 hours of promoting for key club, we ended up passing out a whole stack of flyers and with 41 sign ups!

Annie Ly

Joanna Duran-Garcia | Daimond Ranch For Sophomore Orientation, we set up a small booth with posters and candies to give out to students. Many students are considering joining Key Club to earn hours, and many students signed up. My experience was good because I got to bond more with one of the council members. Also, I practiced public speaking with my members, especially when I explained what Key Club is in Spanish to a parent.
