Division Submissions From left to right: Michelle Fermin, Jesica Daga, Samantha Resurreccion, and Alexis Andrada are passing out water to the entertainers.

On April 27, 2013, Farrington High School Key Club volunteered at Kalakaua Middle School Fair. The Kalakua Middle School Fair is an annual fair that many Kalihi schools participate in. We helped distribute water to members of the Farrington JROTC, who were helping with parking. During the fair, members of Farrington High School Key Club gave water and snacks to the entertainers. Also, Farrington High School Key Club helped set up the different types of booths in the fair. BY: Michelle Fermin and Jhon Malabed

Our Key Club participated in the 2013 BizGym Kid's Business Plan Competition, Lemonade Alley. Lemonade Alley is like a charity, where K-12 students build lemonade stands and sell lemonade. Each team picks a charity and all the money they receive goes to that charity. This year, the competition was in the Hyatt Regency Hotel and was on April 27. Our two main members for the project did Lemonade Alley last year and this year. Helping out at the event was a Key Club project. Our team won the high school division and two other awards. The money made added up to $800 for PTP. BY: Matthew Matooka

Roosevelt Key Club members enjoying the UH Manoa Relay for Life, while raising awareness of cancer

On April 13-14, Roosevelt Key Club partnered with UH Manoa Circle K to participate in the annual UH Manoa Relay for Life held at the Lower Campus Clarence T.C. Ching Athletic Field of UH Manoa. For 12 hours, the members participated in a variety of events, raising awareness about cancer. The members had to keep walking around the field, which represented the walk for a cure for cancer. There were many fun activities that our members were able to participate in including Zumbathons, Dance Raves, Hip Hop classes, and more. Members enjoyed the live music that was presented throughout the night, but the highlight of the entire event was the Luminaria Ceremony. Multiple hand-made lanterns were lighted for a moment of silence; the words "HOPE" and "CURE" shined brightly from the bleachers. Each lantern was carefully placed around the track and lighted the way as cancer survivors and supporters walked silently for those whose lives were lost due to cancer. Members bonded as a club and were able to learn more about the American Cancer Society and their efforts. BY: Deena Char and Marleen Tana

Project Eliminate Project Eliminate is a project led by Kiwanis International and UNICEF that is aimed at eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). It is a disease that kills about 60,000 babies and a lot of women every year. Babies who contract this disease suffer from very painful side effects. It takes $1.80 do cure one person from MNT. The project will require the clubs to raise money for this cause. All the proceeds will go to the immunization of millions of mothers and their future babies from MNT. The money will help supply vaccines, syringes, thousands of staff members, and other necessities that will eliminate MNT. This cause will save many lives around the world and promote improved health in places of low health. All clubs should aim to raise money for Project Eliminate in hopes of saving the lives of mothers and babies from maternal and neonatal tetanus. Our Division goal is to raise $1006.20. Let’s make Project Eliminate the BEST it can possibly be.
