HELLO HUSKEYS,

I hope we’re all beginning the school year just right, especially with our Key Club Meetings! This is one of the most important times of the term, because this is when clubs will have the most members. Membership gain and retention is always important as it reflects your membership growth throughout the years, I hope to see an increase not only in forms but also at Division events as we will always be busy! (Make sure all members pay their dues before November 1st!) As we are entering Fall Rally Season, prepare yourselves for some spirit and fundraising. Make sure your home clubs are fundraising too! We will be teaching our Division chants (Thank you to Sarah Andrak and Mariah Sanchez, Grand Terrace) and fundraising for Pediatric Trauma Prevention. (Don’t forget Spirit Packages are $12!) Information on Dues, Fall Rally, Spirit Packages, and District News will be in this Newsletter! I wish you all good luck these first few months, as it will be difficult, I assure you it will be worth it. DON’T FORGET ABOUT DUES. Serving Through The Winter Storms, Julieann Bui

FIRST MEETINGS: RECRUITMENT/RETENTION Your first few meetings are your some of your most important meetings. This is whether members feel like they should stay or leave Key Club. Membership Growth is important because it demonstrates more members serving our communities as well as reaching the opportunities that are beneficial from Key Club.

TIPS FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS: 

Offer snacks at the first meeting (sparks interest)

Play Icebreakers This will allow the members to bond beyond what is going on in the meeting. They have the opportunity to meet one another and build friendships (a good amount joined just so they could make friends) (suggested to keep ice breakers going throughout the whole year)

Demonstrate what Key Club is really about. Key Club is about service, leadership, and ohana. This is the chance to show what Key Club is through how we serve, what we serve for. (Show videos for MNT, show pictures from past service events, etc)

Plan events right from the beginning. Members will take the chance and try it out. When they see how Key Club works from their own experience, they will have a better understanding and then a decision.

Always value members. Members are first, always. Therefore, for them to stay in Key Club they need to know that they are appreciated for their hard work. It is all voluntary and they don’t have to be at Key Club events. Respect the members, but also show that their time is well appreciated.

DUES | KEY CLUB MEMBERSHIP What are dues? Dues is the collective cost of membership. Turning in dues makes members official Key Club International members.

How much are dues? Dues for the California-Nevada-Hawaii District are $11.50. Clubs may increase this price to no more than $23 to cover additional costs, budget, etc.

Why do I have to turn in dues? Not turning in dues sets a limit to how much you are able to do in Key Club. There are certain events/procedures that require dues: Fall Rally, District Convention, International Convention, etc. or voting in elections, serving as an officer, etc. As well as the title of an Official Key Club International Member.

DUES | KEY CLUB MEMBERSHIP IMPORTANT DATES TO MEET OCTOBER 1ST, 2014 Begin sending your dues in! NOVEMBER 1ST, 2014 If dues are sent in before/by this date, your dues will be considered early bird! (Also a International Award) HIGHLY SUGGESTED Avoid confusion, chaos, and also prepare for Fall Rally and District convention. DECEMBER 1ST, 2014 On-Time dues! Key Club International needs your club dues by this date. Any later will cause many issues and also consider the club as delinquent. FEBRUARY 1ST, 2014 Dues need to be submitted to be included in Recognition Programs. MISS TURNING IN DUES Clubs will become suspended. Missing another year will make clubs inactive. Missing another year after will make clubs unchartered. There is a reactivation/rechartering fee. This will also cause issues with the Membership Update Center.

Don’t even go there!
