Andy Stanley, in his book “Visioneering” made this statement; “We don’t need to pray for more miracles, we just need to be more sensitive to the opportunities that God brings our way.” Have you ever wondered why it is that some people seem to take advantage of the opportunities that come their way, while others allow opportunities to pass them by? It’s easy to say, “Well, they were just lucky.” But I don’t think luck has anything to do with it, I believe that some people simply are just more sensitive to times of opportunity!

Over two thousand years ago, God sent His only son into this world to become our savior. It was such a wonderful event that heaven could not remain silent. Luke 2: 9-15 says; “And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.” Then the angel said to them, “do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the Angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying; “glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another”let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
The shepherds had a choice that night. They received the message of the birth of “the King” and they said, ‘let’s go see for ourselves.’ They seized their opportunity and celebrated that night with the “King of Kings and the Lord of Lords,” but not everyone was as excited and as fortunate as they were. At that first Christmas over 2000 years ago, many people missed their opportunity to celebrate because they were too busy looking for other things. That may be why so many of us fail to seize our opportunity today - we get too busy with life. We get caught up in other things, preoccupied with things that are of little importance. If only the world would have only realized on that night, who that baby was. He was the son of God, the savior of the world that came to redeem mankind and to offer us a more abundant life. That baby came to reconcile us back to God and to offer us eternal life. Because most of the world failed to recognize what God was doing, they missed their opportunity to celebrate. The politicians, the business community, the innkeeper, and even the religious establishment missed the first Christmas because they were all busy looking for something else. They failed to be sensitive to the opportunity before them, allowing the greatest opportunity they would ever have in their lives pass them by. The only people, who celebrated that first Christmas were the people who were looking for it. (CONTINUED ON PAGE 4)

Answers to last month’s puzzle: The angels celebrated and said: “you’ll find the baby ... lying in a manger.” Shepherds celebrated when they said: “let’s go and see!” As they went they found Jesus just as the angel had said because they were searching for Him. They were seeking Him. And later on, the wise men, found Jesus because they were looking for Him, also. The ones that seized their opportunity are the ones who got to celebrate. Now let me ask you: What are you going to find this Christmas? Before you can really answer that question you first must ask yourself, what am I looking for? The key to Christmas is finding a right relationship with God. The miracle of Christmas was not on 34th Street; it was in Bethlehem. Through Jesus, God offers you a relationship that provides forgiveness for your past, peace of mind in the present, and a solid future in eternity. Again, what are you looking for?
