ATELIER DUTCH

Rob van der Velden Urban Developer

Atelier Dutch is an agency where both architects and urban developers design areas, districts and buildings. Feasibility and malleability come together here in an attractive whole with the wildest of nutty thoughts leading to the loveliest designs. The same applies to Eilands’ Eigen.

INTERVIEW

Eva: ‘Hi Rob, you’ve been working on the urban development plan of Eilands’ Eigen. It’s quite a special plan involving various islands. How did the idea of various islands come into being?’ Rob: ‘Eilands’ Eigen is situated at a very special location alongside the open landscape. For this reason, the choice was made to set up part of the landscape to accommodate nature and games for children from the neighbourhood. This adds value to this new residential area.’ Rob van der Velden

A special location bordering the open landscape

Eva Green, our reporter, visits our collaboration partners on a regular basis to shower them with questions. This time she paid a visit to Rob van der Velden, Urban Developer at Atelier Dutch in Almere, to ask him everything there is to know about the setup of Eilands’ Eigen.

Eva: ‘The islands are so different from each other. Can you tell us more about that?’ Rob: ‘Certainly. The area will include several islands. A number of bigger islands for residential purposes. The biggest island will present a combination of ground-floor housing, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses and apartments to add to the mix. The small island at the top will also feature apartments in a special setup. The central island is the most special little island where houses will be built with their gardens directly bordering the water.’

It will be a combination of ground-floor housing, terraced, semi-detached and detached houses and rather special apartments.

Eva: ‘Can those whose gardens border the water moor their boats there?’ Rob: ‘Yes, they can. The water system is set up in such a way that everything is connected, making it possible to really make use of the water as well.’

Eva: ‘What can you tell us about the non-inhabited islands of Eilands’ Eigen?’ Rob: ‘We will establish two totally green islands. The biggest island will be accessible via a small bridge. It will feature areas for playing and for meeting up with each other. The smallest island will not be accessible. This allows nature to run its course resulting in spontaneous natural developments.’
