DADAVANI Elimination of conflict is the prime component of liberation

EDITORIAL Does conflict exist in our life? And have you ever thought why this conflict arises and what can be its consequence? In this current era of the time cycle wherever you look you find the environs of conflicts only, do you not? In spite of reading scriptures or doing virtuous meditation, if conflicts arise then how can we call this dharma religion at all? There is no religion where there is conflict and there is religion where there is no conflict. True religion is that where conflicts will not arise at all. God does not reside where there are conflicts and Laxmiji—wealth also will walk away. Absence of wandering of the chit is the religion of all religions. If you attain this state, the cycle of transmigration into life after life will come to an end. There is liberation when the mind becomes free of all conflicts. If the conflicts have decreased then one has attained relative religion and if they are completely destroyed, then one has attained real religion. Liberation is through real religion. When the life becomes conflict-free then one comes closer to moksha. How can one become conflict-free? The Gnani Purush burns the seed of conflict in the fire of knowledge; thereafter conflict does not arise. Circumstance is one evidentiary instrument for arising conflict in the life. But because of one’s own wrong belief, believing the other as the doer, by seeing others as faulty, by not getting the results as per one’s wish, the internal state changes because of ego, and because of all these, conflicts arise. All the energies of a human being get veiled due to this ego only. If the ego remains within ‘normality,’ there would not be any conflicts in the worldly life. Matabheda divisiveness due to differences of opinion is called conflict and where there is conflict, worldly life perpetuates. There is not any reason in this world that is worth doing the slightest conflict. Sansar jagruti the awareness in the worldly life, is where one will not allow any situation of clash arise in his home or outside and such a person is considered to have right intellect. This is the characteristic of a noble human being. A human being looks for happiness in the worldly life and because of not getting his desires fulfilled he creates conflict. It is useless to harbor expectation of happiness where in fact there is no happiness. Absolute bliss exists in the Self only but due to the intent to clash that bliss gets veiled. He, whose conflicts are destroyed, is considered to have come into the state of Godhood. And when one’s all the clash intents vanish completely and he does not become nimit evidentiary instrumental to create clash in others then he is considered a God. Absolutely revered Dadashri is in this state and through the energy of Gnan He gave such a Gnan to mahatmas that they never experience any pain or misery and they enjoy the bliss of the Vitarag. Elimination of conflicts is liberation. If one lives just one life without conflict he arrives in the boundary of attaining moksha. If one settles the files with equanimity then he will never have conflict. It is the greatest spiritual effort to attain the conflict-free state. It is our hearty prayer that let us all by making spiritual effort, attain the bliss of the Vitarag, the full experience state of eternal bliss. ~ Deepak Desai Subscription :

Elimination of conflict is the prime component of liberation (Please note that ‘S’ for Self, or ‘Y’ for You, refers to the awakened one in Akram Vignan, or the eternal
Self. The ‘s’ for self refers to the worldly self. For a detailed glossary please see: www.dadashri.org/ glossary.html)
What do you call clash? Questioner: What do you call clash? Dadashri: Clashes with members of the family, with outsiders, clashes with the wife are all included. If a couple gets into an argument and as a result avoid each other for a while then this event is called a clash. There is no problem if they get together right away after two to three hours of bickering. However, when they argue and stay apart, that is called clash. If they stay apart for twelve hours then the whole night is spent in clash. When one sits with a sulky face, it is called a clashconflict. What happens in a conflict? You feel as if your soul is on fire and you cannot put out the fire, no matter how hard you try. The selfsoul is not a thing that is to be burnt. If your clothes catch fire let them burn but not your soul. Day and night the world is absorbed in conflict. For a short while one falls under the spell of the illusion of the world, only to return to the internal conflict and anguish. The whole world is immersed in suffering and anguish. The illusion makes one forget the suffering. The conflict due to the illusion is not destroyed and if destroyed, there is liberation.
Quarrel at home Do you ever quarrel at home? What do you think about clash in the home, do you like it? Questioner: The world does not function without quarrel. But at least there should be some quarrel, sometimes. Dadashri: No, there should not be any quarrel. Why should there be any quarrel? What is the reason for a quarrel? Are you comfortable with any quarrel? 2
You get to eat nice meals, wear beautiful gold jewelry and yet you have to quarrel. It is because you do not know how to live life; you do not know the art of living. That is the cause of quarrels. All we know of is the art of making dollars. That is where your thoughts are preoccupied but you never think about how to live life. Shouldn’t you think about this? Questioner: We should think about it, but everyone has a different approach. Dadashri: No, everyone’s ways are not different, they are all the same. Dollars. Where can I make a dollar! When one earns some money, he would go to a store and buy something for the house. He brings it home, but does he have to keep looking at it? Then when it becomes old, he has to go and buy another one. All day long, he is caught up in a rut, he is unhappy, and he is stressed, stressed and stressed. Alas! How can one live this kind of a life! Does this suit a human being? There should not be any quarrels or conflicts.
Bliss of the Self veiled due to ego What happens to you if someone throws bad words to you? Questioner: The ego gets hurt, and therefore I will feel it, will I not? Dadashri: The ego is hurt? It is good if it gets hurt; it will decrease that much. As it gets wounded again and again, will it not get fall away and die? Do you want to keep the ego fresh and alive? Fresh and lively? Do you have much need for the ego? Questioner: It stays with us all the time, dose it not? Dadashri: Yes, it stays with us. It will not move away at all. All this exists because of that. June 2009

Egoism obstructed Self-illumination
forgiveness from within, and then it will leave.
Questioner: Is ego the main cause for all our energies getting veiled?
If ego remains in normality, then also clash would stop
Dadashri: It is only because of the ego that all the energies have been veiled! The ego is always blind. Now, let us divide the ego, let us make divisions and see, in which matter the ego is prevailing. His ego is more in greed, his ego is more in pride, like that; these are all ego’s divisions. Thus, it is verily the ego that is creating the obstruction; do you feel that?
The ego can only be reduced up to a certain level and the reward for that is a life free of worldly difficulties. If a person abides by Lord Mahavir’s Agnas-directives, then the ego will be reduced to a certain level but it would still be normal. If the ego remains within ‘normality’, there would not be any conflicts. There would be no conflicts within a person or within his home. This is still possible in the Kramic path. There are some people for whom this is true; they have no internal conflict. However, this ego too will have to go, if he is to go to moksha. And when that ego goes and the Self is attained and realized, then that would be the end. He will not bind any karma after that.
Questioner: Is it because of ego that there are clashes? Dadashri: All this destruction and creation is because of ego only. When the selfego is hungry, there is no care and support for the other person and hence the work does not get done; on the contrary, sparks will be created. Did sparks fly for you? Questioner: Yes, there used to lightning and thunderstorms too! Dadashri: The ego ahamkar is such a thing. What does a volt power of four hundred volts tell you? ‘Do Not Touch, Danger’. Similarly, ego is a dangerous thing. It is like four hundred volts. Do not play with it, do not touch it; do not harass it. What will be the result of irritating it? Questioner: Clash, clash, clash! Dadashri: Clash! And it will bite you like a snake too. Just a snake hisses in anger and bites, no? Humans will bite in a different way, but bite they will!
How can one become free from ego? Questioner: We are being told and we hear that this ego is wrong. And saints also advise like that, but why it does not leave? Dadashri: When will ego leave? It will leave when you accept it as wrong. Accept means; when quarrels happen with your wife then know that your ego is wrong. So therefore with that very ego ask repeatedly for her June 2009
When ego dissolves, there is liberation Questioner: Are the words demerit karma ‘paap’ and merit karma ‘punyai’ only to be used if a person is acting through his ego? Dadashri: That is correct. You can only use the words ‘paap’ and ‘punyai’ when there is a presence of the ego. Presence of ego will allow some change, a little but the change will not be anything dramatic. The ego is a residual effect; it has already been created, it ‘just happens’, but also a new ego is being created as the old one unwinds and dissipates in discharge. If the ego is present, there will be paap and punyai. If the ego goes away, so will both paap and punyai. When people reduce their ego, they are rewarded with worldly happiness. When you reduce your ego, you will bind karma and your reward will be worldly happiness. When you increase your ego, you will bind karma, the reward of which will be worldly unhappiness. You cannot get rid of your ego by reducing it, but you will acquire worldly happiness. The ego only goes away through the grace of a Gnani, not otherwise. 3
DADAVANI
As long as the ego is there, one cannot refrain from charging new karma. No matter how much you make it understand, it will not refrain from drawing new plans. What does the ego not do? The ego is the basis for this world; this world has come about as a result of the ego. Once the ego is gone, there is liberation.
Happiness is impeded through kashaya intent Who is causing conflicts? Ignorance!! However long one has walked in the wrong direction, the ego will increase by that much—egoism—and however much such ‘egoism’ decreases, that much bliss prevails. My ego is completely gone and that is why I experience eternal happiness (bliss). True happiness is that which prevails amidst painful situations likely to cause suffering. When someone insults, and bliss prevails then the amazing experience, ‘Wow! What wonderful bliss!’ will be there.
Understanding makes worldly interactions appealing In fact where is the thing like conflict in this world at all? Conflict means lack of understanding. Conflicts-clashes exist wherever there is no understanding and pain dukha exists wherever there is absence of understanding samjan. There is no thing called pain at all. Pain is due to the lack of understanding. All kinds of miseries come to end through the Vitarag speech—speech without ‘my-ness and I-ness’. Where there is opinions and sectarianism, forget about the path to moksha, people have not acquired even religion there; they have not understood anything. Questioner: When can it be said that one has understood? Dadashri: When conflicts and worries are gone. When conflicts or worries do not arise when a person is insulted, or someone slaps him, or when sits him in a car and someone 4
tells him to get out. Otherwise how can you consider him to have an understanding? There is absolute bliss in the Self but because of passion-laden intent—anger-pridedeceit-greed—that bliss is veiled. Where does this bliss come from? Does it come from sex? Does it come from respect? Does it come from anger? Does it come from greed? When it does not come from any of these, then realize that it comes from samkit right understanding. Where the Self is, there is no pain of misery of any kind.
Liberation through a state devoid of conflict ‘Liberation is when not an iota of conflict arises within one even in an environment filled with conflicts.’ The Lord says that there is perpetuation of the worldly life as long as the mind is full of conflicts. There is liberation when the mind becomes free of all conflicts, such a mind will always be at peace. The destruction of conflict is one of the most important components of liberation. Bliss follows the destruction of conflict. You may not have Gnan but when can you say you have religion at home? It is when you tolerate any kind of environment and do not add fuel to the fire of conflict at home, then you are considered a noble person. God lives in such a home. Everything gets destroyed where there is conflict. God will not reside in a home where conflicts occur and Laxmiji, the Goddess of wealth too would leave. Conflicts are not allowed to occur in a religious household and if once in a while a conflict does occur, it is confined within the four walls of the home and everyone will keep awareness that it does not occur again. When we create an atmosphere that hurts someone then conflict will arise within us. Conflict should not remain in the home. There is no use of worldly life as long as there is conflict at home. June 2009
DADAVANI
That is the main thing. If conflict leaves then one can progress in religion and the talk of Atmagnan—Self-realization is a long way ahead. Conflict must go away first. No home is free from conflicts, including the homes of the saints and the ascetics, these poor folks they live the life in sheer conflicts only. They look like they have swallowed castor oil. The biggest thing is to be rid of conflicts.
Conflict resolves if divisiveness due to differences of opinion resolves Questioner: How can life become without conflict? Dadashri: When you sit here with us in satsang, we can explain to you and then your conflict will go away. The conflict has arisen due to this turmoil. All these miseries are due to lack of understanding otherwise there are no miseries at all after coming to America, nevertheless all these are invited miseries. Do you ever have matabheda divisiveness due to differences of opinion? Questioner: Matabheda will be there in the house, everyone’s thoughts are not same, are they? Dadashri: Yes, there is no problem in that kind of matabheda. But it is a problem where clash arises from matabheda. That is why we are talking about matabheda. That kind of matabheda will be there naturally. This person will say, ‘wrong thing happened.’ Then that other person will say, ‘No, it is not wrong!’ But clash should not occur from that. By any means get rid of and throw out clash. You should close and heal all clashes. If matabheda arises then you find out a way and be done with it without entering into clash.
Clash may lead to prolonged quarrel Matabheda divisiveness due to differences of opinion should not remain in the home, do this much. Eat, drink and enjoy but there should not be conflict or any clash or prolonged quarrel (kankaas) in the home. Have you experienced prolonged quarrel? June 2009
Questioner: This tendency to quarrel, is it more prevalent in a man or a woman? Dadashri: Women have more of this tendency. Questioner: What is the reason for that? Dadashri: There are two categories of clash, minor clash and major clash. Men tend to get into a quarrel of the type that does not last. They forget and let go quickly. This is minor clash. Women on the other hand do not recover from a quarrel that easily and they tend to remember it for prolonged time. They simply cannot let go easily. This is major clash (kankaas), because it is prolonged. Sometimes they even make a big issue of a minor quarrel because of the way they are. For example after a minor disagreement, the husband walks about as if nothing has happened but the wife walks around with a sulky face as if she has been starved for three days. Questioner: So what should one do to avoid major clash? Dadashri: If you do not light a minor fire she will not turn it into a major fire. The fault is yours for igniting a fire in the first place when you tell her that her food tastes awful. You don’t like the food she has prepared, and then you go around with a frown on your face. All these trivial things give rise to minor clash which she converts into a major clash. The cause of clash or conflict is abhorrence-aversion (dwesh). Lord Mahavir has said not to harbor abhorrence. If you do not like anything then disregard it.
Behold the prison of conflict When conflict (klesh) increases it is called prolonged quarrel kankaas. How can you maintain a friendly relationship with a person who is quarrelsome? It is like trying to sweeten soured whey- even the sweetness turns sour. Instead it is better to keep your distance from such a person. The other option is to become a Gnani. A Gnani would have the real 5
DADAVANI
perspective and would understand that whatever the other person is saying is merely a record and such records are playing everywhere. A Gnani sees the Self within all as pure. Everyone is entrapped in this prison of the world so what can they do? What can anyone do being caught up in this trap of conflicts? What kind of trap is this? Everyone in a household will gang up on one person. Just think of the plight of that poor fellow when there is a war within the four walls of his home. He does not even sleep in peace. Out of fear of displeasing people at home, he even turns down an invitation from a friend to a dinner. Every moment there is misery he cannot escape and he has to suffer through it without any choice. Even at home he has to live in a hostile environment. Just look at the effects of karma! It is his own karma. The world is such that there is no escape from suffering.
Seek solace from the One who is an abode of infinite bliss Today there are waves of conflicts everywhere and when it gets worse and unbearable people resort to committing suicide. But does that solve the problem? On the contrary, they carry the problem, magnified many times, into their next birth and will have to endure it. Therefore, it is better to get through all this and suffer it in this life. There is nothing but misunderstanding and ignorance in this world. Where did all this misery come from? It has come because you have sought solace from those who are unhappy themselves. How can there be any misery if you take solace from the One who is in bliss. Dada is in eternal bliss. If you seek solace from Him, where is the scope of any unhappiness coming your way? Those who have selfish motives in what they do, are unhappy people. If you seek solace from them, naturally you are going to be unhappy. Those who are unhappy have not been able to get rid of their own miseries so how can you expect them to help you get rid of 6
yours? You can be permanently happy only when you go to the One who is Absolute, the one who is an abode of endless bliss, the one who has no self-interest and is free from all desires.
Being free from conflicts is liberation The Lord does not regard anything as bondage. It is the relative self (prakruti) that is engaged in eating, drinking and all the other activities. Being free from conflicts is liberation. The worldly routines do not bind you, and they will not change. An atmosphere of conflict will continue to present itself. Does it not get too hot being under the sun? Do the doors not slam open and shut in the wind? When that happens, all you have to do is keep your distance a little. How could you get a taste of liberation if there were no conflicts? The liberation given to you by Dada is such that you can experience freedom despite being surrounded by an environment full of conflict. When no vibration of conflict arises within one in reaction to stressful external conflicts, then one has finished studying all the scriptures of the world. In the most nauseating and non-agreeable circumstances, if you suppress your reactions and appear calm, then it means that you are well on your way of studying the scriptures of the world. Conflicts occur even between gurus and disciples. The time of conflict passes one way or another, but during that time people cause bondage for infinite life cycles. The seeds of quarrel have been sown from countless past lives; they lie dormant within, waiting to sprout as soon as the right circumstances arise. The Gnani Purush can burn these seeds of conflict, whereby no more conflicts would occur. Shrimad Rajchandra says that I bow down to the family where even a single day passes without a conflict. 窶連bsence of clash in the chit is the June 2009

religion of all religions.’ If you attain this state, the cycle of rebirth will come to an end.
Religion means no conflicts To follow religion to be rid of conflict is relative religion—the religion of the non-Self and moksha liberation is attained through real religion—the religion of the Self. Wherever there is no conflicts and discord, there is the exact religion of the Jain, the Vaishnav, and the Shaivite. Since there are conflicts in every home, where have all these religions gone? If a person learns the art of living, whereby it reduces all conflicts from his worldly life, then it can be said that he has attained religion. True dharma is to live life without conflicts. In India, only if one’s own home becomes like heaven, can one even begin to talk about liberation, but not otherwise. The home may not be like heaven but at least it should come close to being one! Your life should become free of conflicts. And that is why the scriptures say, ‘Where there is the slightest of conflict, there is no religion.’ Inner harmony means no feelings of depression or elevation. No depression in the jail and no elevation in the palace. If your life becomes free of conflicts, know that you have come closer to liberation. Everyone wants liberation because no one likes to be bound. When your life becomes free of conflicts, your liberation will be close by. If you do not have conflict then know that you are on the right path. The religion of liberation is different and the religion of the worldly life is different. The religion of the worldly life is correct but conflict should not remain in one’s home. And if there is conflict and they say that their religion is correct then they are matarthi. They are protecting their opinion only. They are not protecting their SelfSoul. So if there is no conflict in the house, then know that you have attained some religion. June 2009
This is just that people go around taking stress on their head needlessly, saying, ‘I am doing something’, ‘I follow such and such religion’, ‘I belong to this religious sect.’ Hey mooah (the classic word used by Dadashri to awaken the one who is destined to die), you have lots of conflicts at home. Your face looks like as if you have drunk castor oil. Will there be castor oil on the face of a person where there is religion? That thing keeps tormenting inside, because they have not understood this religion. If conflict and religion are together then conflict should decrease. If the conflict decreases then know that the religion is working. But what if it does not decrease at all? And where there is conflict there is adharma not religion. Complete non-religion (adharma). They are doing adharma in the name of religion (dharma). Even then such worldly life goes on, does it not?
Where there is conflict there is no religion Conflict is a terrible disease of the worldly life. That which does not give rise to conflict is dharma. There is nothing wrong in eating and drinking in the worldly life, but conflict should not arise. God says there is no problem if you do not achieve moksha, but it is good to live a worldly life only if conflicts do not arise. Conflict is a dangerous disease, it is worse than Tuberculosis. The Lord has said, if your conflicts do not go away, it means you do not know what dharma is. Conflicts take you to a life in the animal kingdom. Therefore, you need to know two things. Live a worldly life if there are no conflicts; otherwise find yourself a path to moksha. There is no dharma where there is slightest of conflict and where there is dharma, there are no conflicts. Conflict is a mental disease which ruins your coming life. We look for remedies so that the diseases of the body do not ruin your next life; so should you not look for medicines for the disease of conflicts? You should inquire into it immediately to see which cause created the conflict. 7
DADAVANI
Conflict can cease through determination too The one who does not want to have conflict, who does not take the side of conflict, will have conflict but it will decrease gradually. However there will be more conflicts as long as one believes that there should be conflict. One should not be partial towards conflict. If one decides that he does not want to quarrel whatsoever then he will end up having least conflicts and where there are conflicts, God does not stay there at all.
Conflict arises due to vengeance Today people have hardly anything to suffer and yet they complain so much. If you take all the suffering of their entire life, it is not equivalent to even one day of suffering of a spiritually elevated being and yet people go around complaining. ‘We’ constantly see in our Gnan that everyone in the world is bound through vengeance and that is why their faces look so miserable. Vengeance causes clash and conflicts. If you were to have even the slightest understanding of what Lord Parshvanath stands for, seeds of vitaragata will begin to sprout within you, but alas, how is anyone to attain such an understanding? People refer to the vitarag Lords as ‘Lord Parshvanath; the one with the snakes over his head’ or ‘Lord Mahavir; the one with the lion.’ They are able to distinguish the Ratnagiri mango from the Valsadi mango. But alas! They just do not understand the vitarag Lords! How can anyone help such people? The way to happiness is to not hurt any other being.
What a state of India? If you take one hundred households in India, fifty will belong to people who are virtuous and noble and the other fifty will belong to people who lack virtue and nobility. Of the fifty virtuous households, five will have conflicts 8
in it and the other forty-five will not. India should be such! If people were truly wise, the fortyfive homes would have no clashes. Out of hundred homes, fifty will have foul-mouthed people who fight all day long but of the virtuous homes only a handful would quarrel and the others would have peace; some 45% will have peace. But today, not from a thousand households but not even from a million, is there a single household free of clashes?
Who is at fault where there is one’s own account only? In spite of the wanderings of endless lives, man’s artadhyan adverse internal meditation that hurts the self and raudradhyan adverse internal meditation that hurts the self and others have not stopped. That is why you have to understand the nature of these adverse meditations. When conflicts arise at home, you have to ask for forgiveness as well as grant forgiveness and you have to do it in such a way that the other person will not bind any vengeance. The highest dharmadhyan absence of adverse internal meditation is to remain in the Lord’s Agnas. Why is it necessary to ask for forgiveness? Are you asking for forgiveness without anything in return? No. The truth of the matter is that whatever you gave in the past life is exactly what you will get back in this life. Nothing of the outside torments people, it is only the artadhyan and raudradhyan that does so. It is not easy to get rid of anger, pride, deceit and greed (krodha, maan, maya and lobha). How alert and aware do you remain if your doctor tells you that you cannot eat any sugar? If your doctor tells you, ‘you have suffered a heart attack and so you must not eat any salt because you will suffer another heart attack that will kill you if you do.’ How attentive do you become in such instances? Why do you remain so alert there? These artadhyan and raudradhyan perpetuate life after life and that is the death of life after life; they never liberate you. You will automatically June 2009
DADAVANI
reduce them by fifty percent from the moment you decide that you want to put a stop to them. You can worship whom ever you want to, read any scripture you want to, do samayik if you want to, pay homage to any guru you want to, but make sure that no artadhyan or raudradhyan occurs.
This worldly life perpetuated due to conflict What is the sign of a true devotee? He should not have swachhand one’s own ego intellect guided behavior, he should not have abhinivesh stuck on one point, he should not have the disease of drashti roga sexuality and covetousness in vision, he should not have conflict, he should not have artadhyan and raudradhyan. If there is no artadhyan and raudradhyan, then one is said to be in dharmadhyan. New karma cease to be bound when artadhyan and raudradhyan stop. But that is not possible. It is only after ‘we’ give you Gnan that dharmadhyan begins in your relative self and shukladhyan meditation as the Self, prevails from within, and artadhyan and raudradhyan stop altogether. This is the path of Akram Vignan and so all external activities are like those of the worldly (mithyatvi) people, yet their dhyan (inner state) changes completely. The Lord has said that no conflicts prevail in dharmadhyan. Money may increase or decrease, but one should be free of conflicts. It is hard to find a home where there are no conflicts. Divisiveness due to differences of opinions is considered conflicts and where there is conflict there is the worldly life. He, whose conflicts are destroyed, is considered to have come into the state of Godhood. Conflicts start out small and then turn into major ones. Conflicts and divisiveness due to differences of opinion really waste the human life away; a life that is earned with great difficulty. Whatever amount of time one spends June 2009
in conflicts is the amount of time one binds for a life in the animal kingdom. A person of virtue will not bind a life in the animal kingdom.
That which is renounced through abhorrence will have to be suffered with attachment You have not become vitaragi as long as you have attachment-abhorrence. If a person renounces lemons, he becomes irate if there is lemon in any of the food that comes before him. This means that what he used to like (raag) will have to be suffered through abhorrence (dwesh). And anything renounced through abhorrence will have to be suffered through attachment. If someone takes a vow not to smoke, and is made to smoke, he will be resentful that he was made to break his vow and he will experience internal anger (dwesh). What is meant by renouncing through raagdwesh? It means that when you renounce with abhorrence something that you like, and then when it comes in front of you, you will like it (raag). That which is renounced through abhorrence (dwesh), will be suffered through attachment. Most people have renounced that which they used to like (raag) and therefore, they have to suffer it through abhorrence. Nowadays wherever there are competitors, there is abhorrence. Ordinarily these priests manage to remain detached everywhere but if they learn that there is another person higher than them, then dwesh will arise within. That is why ‘we’ say that one has to rise above all competition. If two diamond merchants become competitive with each other, dwesh will arise but they may also develop raag towards each other, then the two will sit and dine together.
Bondage is due to attachment which arises from ignorance What does the Lord consider raag? ‘I am Chandulal’, ‘I ate’, that is raag. ‘I am the mere seer of the one who is eating,’ is not 9
DADAVANI
raag. ‘I am Chandulal and this is all mine’, is raag. I and ‘my’ together is raag. Attachment towards ignorance is verily raag; and attachment towards Gnan is ‘vitarag.’ Everyone in the world has misunderstood the meaning of raag. They believe raag is passion for anything, but that is not raag, it is an attraction and infatuation. The whole world is trapped in raag. Infatuation means attraction.
Think, who creates conflicts? Questioner: Does meditation take one to the state of shunyata zero state? Dadashri: No. It increases subtle vibratory activity spandan. It increases egoism. Questioner: So is there no such thing as the chakras (putative spinning spheres of bio-energetic activity along the spinal cord and the brain considered to be powerhouse stations that interact with cosmic energy, the highest chakra, the seventh one represents the union with the divine)? Dadashri: There is. All those charkas are electrical installations and by meditatingfocusing concentration one enters into ekagrata—unity in mind-body function, the mind improves and stillness arises but it also increases the ego. Real Gnan is the only thing which does not require a ‘counterweight’. All other things require a counterweight. Whatever you take, you have to give something back in return. Therefore in doing focused meditation (ekagrata) or other such things, the ego increases and one incurs a loss. The exact Gnan is the only one with a safe side and it will not give rise to anything else. You should think about what benefits you have gained from meditation. Look to see if your conflicts have decreased. If they have decreased then you have acquired relative religion and if the conflicts have been destroyed then you have attained real religion. Who causes 10
conflicts? It is ignorance. All the relative religions that are there keep one absorbed in ignorance. Ignorance (agnan) is lack of awareness and knowledge of the Self.
That which produces instant result is religion Where there is the slightest conflict, there is neither God nor religion. What is considered dharma (true nature of a thing)? It is that which produces instant result. Otherwise it is not religion, it is adharma (non-religion). Does anger not give instant results? Just as adharma gives instant result, dharma should give instant result too. As long as Self-realization is not attained, if one practices true religion, there will be no conflicts in his home. There is no religion where there is kashaya: anger-pride-deceit-greed. It is a wonder that people are looking for religion where there is kashaya. People are not capable of testing. After attaining enlightened view (samyak darshan; right belief) one will not like the worldly life. And that is why enlightened view says, ‘You will have to go to moksha after acquiring me and so think before you worship me. That is why Kavi has sung: ‘Jeni re Santo, koti janmo ni punyai jaage re, Tene re Santo, Dada na darshan thaaye re, Ghatma ene khatkaro khat khat vage re’ ‘Oh Saints! The one whose merit karma of infinite lives has awakened, They Oh Saints! Will have the darshan of Dada, And they will have the clock-like warning from within.’ Khatkaro (reminder) means that once you meet Dada, then you will want to keep doing his darshan. That is why I say, ‘Do not meet me if you want to go back (to the worldly life), but once you meet me you have no choice but to go to moksha.’ I tell you not to be trapped here (in path of moksha) because once you are trapped; you will not be able to get out. Understanding stops consequences of conflicts We have to show such religion to people that conflicts and quarrels do not occur in their home. Nowadays religion has become ‘upset’; therefore the people are living life with conflicts. Are these Jains, Vaishnavs at fault otherwise? It is not so. Yet why so much worries? This is because the whole life is with conflicts only. Nowadays the whole religion has turned around. So that which has turned upside-down, ‘we— the Gnani Purush’ will turn that upside-down and thus ‘setup’ that which was ‘upset’. It is possible to have life without conflict very easily. And ‘we’ will give religion which does not require any effort to people of the world. We see castor oil all over on their faces. How can we ask them to work hard? Can’t we see castor oil on the faces of people out there? Would they go around having castor oil on their faces? What is its reason? It is not worth asking them to work hard, it is not worth asking these poor people to practice penance or renounce, they are already so miserable. They will say, ‘give up eating such and such food.’ Hey, that is the only thing that poor fellow likes, why are you asking him to abandon that? It is not worth asking him to renounce anything. He does not have any kind of happiness at all. It is worth feeling compassion for them. ‘We’ can just see as it is, so ‘we’ feel compassion that may all these people become free from these miseries. God does not reside in a home where there is discord. What has God said? He has said that there should be no fights in the home of a devotee. A devotee is anyone whose worship is indirect (paroksha bhakti) through the medium of a picture, an image, an idol etc. And a devotee whose worship is direct, (pratyaksha), one who has the awareness and the realization of the Soul within is called a Gnani, and there can be no conflicts in the home of a Gnani, only eternal bliss (samadhi) prevails there. Mind without conflict is moksha. Mind with conflict is worldly life. June 2009
Moksha through normality ‘We’ have one desire and that is that the whole world turns towards moksha. Who can you say has turned towards moksha? It is when a person has ‘walked’ a mile towards moksha! Religions of today are not the path of the vitarag. What is the definition of the vitarag path? It is when one becomes normal. Above normal is a fever and below normal is a fever. 97 is the below normal fever and 99 is the above normal fever. 98 is normality. Above normal and below normal are both fevers. Only a doctor looks at it this way, but the principle applies to every one. Normality is required in eating, drinking, sleeping, in everything and that is what the vitarag path is all about. Today, everything is above normality and therefore everything has become poisonous. It is not anyone’s fault. Everyone is trapped in the current time cycle. Vitarag path means to come into normality in everything. When a person becomes involved in penance, he gets lost in divisions and sects. Why do you fall into divisions? They are nothing but deep holes; you come out of one hole and fall into another. It is like cleaning just one corner of the home. Those who are involved in doing penance, do penance and nothing else, there are those who are involved only in renunciation and some only read the scriptures. Why are you taking care of only one corner? You will have to clean all the corners if you want to go to moksha. You will get the benefit of cleaning certain corners, but you will not be able to attain moksha. If you want life in one of the four life forms (human, animal, celestial and hell) then clean just one corner. I can give you that which will give you life in the human form again where people will sing your praise. But how long is it good for? Then wherever you turn, you will run into other people and create conflicts. Instead of asking for that, why not ask for something that will take you all the way to moksha? Take something from here that will give you a permanent solution. 11

Each Indian has enough energy in him to make the world tremble. Why do ‘we’ separate the Indians specifically? Because the Indians have the spiritual energy and development associated with it, however those energies remain stifled and covered by veils of ignorance. You need a nimit to unveil them. You need a nimit who gives liberation, only then will this energy be exposed. You need a nimit who has no enemies, not even celestial enemies; you need the one who gives moksha.
Wake up from bhaavnindra (Bhaavnindra = spiritually asleep; delusion resulting in attachment and abhorrence) Whole world is in bhaavnindra unaware of the Self. Bhaavnindra means to be asleep in matters of the Self swabhav. In the other sleep, dehanindra (physical sleep), one is asleep in matters of the Self as well as the non-Self. In the physical sleep, one is not even aware of his body. When he wakes up from physical sleep, he becomes aware of his body but remains unaware of the Self. He is continuously harming himself by being in a state of unawareness of the Self. Anger, pride, deceit and greed occur due to bhaavnindra. Even the slightest hurt caused to others is also due to bhaavnindra. The whole world is in bhaavnindra. Wake up! I have come here to tell you only one thing and that is to wake up. Do you want to remain asleep or do you want to wake up? How long are you going to remain asleep in this way? Questioner: I am awake, am I not? Dadashri: Who says you are awake? If you were awake, you would not have any conflict with anyone; you would not have divisiveness due to differences of opinion matabheda with anyone and you would not have any worries. What kind of a stage should one attain? One’s intellect should become such that it never creates conflict in the home. Everything 12
else is acceptable but there should not be any inner conflict. All these miseries, the diseases arise because of inner conflict and grief. And if one enjoys the bliss of this Gnani Purush, this Akram—step-less path to Self-realization, then all the diseases will subside. It will come in to normality.
Bhagwan is the one without clash Questioner: What if someone clashes with us even when we do not want to? Dadashri: Yes, that is how the world is. That is why ‘we’ tell you to find yourself such a ‘cave’ that no one knows about and no one can find. Otherwise, people will track you down no matter where you are and clash with you. In the end, even the mosquitoes will come in the night and trouble you. They will not leave you in peace. Having attained this human life, if you do not want to regress into a lower life form (adhogati), then do not allow clashes to occur with anyone. Once you destroy your own clashes and help others do the same, you will attain a status where people will look upon you with reverence (lokpujya). The atma (Soul, the Self), itself is parmatma (fully enlightened Self), hence it is lokpujya (worthy of reverence by all), but even the pudgal (the relative self; the physical manifestation) is also worthy of reverence, provided one loses all traces of inner clash (kashaya, arta or raudradhyan). When one no longer has any inner clash, and when others do not incite any clash within him, then that relative-self too becomes worthy of worship. It is fine if all other bhaav remain but clash (kalushit bhaav) should not arise. When you do not have any clash within or towards anyone else, you become worthy of worship. What did ‘we’ discover within us? What was within ‘us’ that left? Why is this body revered (lokpujya) by others? It is because ‘we’ constantly remain in the Self, but also all traces of conflicts (kashays) have vanished from this body. That June 2009
DADAVANI
is why this body is revered. Only the inner clash (kalushit bhaav) has vanished but otherwise this body enjoys eating, drinking and even wearing good clothes and yet it is worthy of worship and respect. That is the wonder of this time cycle, is it not? This is the eleventh wonder called asanyati puja, worship of a householder.
Conflicts end through Akram Gnan This path of Akram Vignan is such that it is possible to get rid of all tendencies towards conflict. Not only will conflict vanish within you, but because of you, others too will not have conflicts. The one who comes seeking conflict will be pacified because you are without any clash. The entire inner intent of the other person will change. This ‘house’ (the physical body) is never with conflict but it appears that way because of your own tendencies to clash (kashayas, kalushit bhaav). Then you will say you do not like this ‘room.’ Once you project your own clashing tendencies (kalushit bhaav) into anything, it becomes tainted and spoilt. This world is such that one’s relative self can be worthy of worship if his tendency towards clash (kalushit bhaav) goes away. Then it does not matter whether he is a Muslim, Jain or Vaishnav. An oliya (Muslim priest) becomes worthy of worship and respect because these clash tendencies have decreased significantly. Nevertheless that is a natural trait within him, which he attains on his path of progression and development. However, there is no purusharth (real inner effort) on his part. Purusharth begins only after one attains the Self. After Gnan one comes to the state of the Self and then all clash and conflict begin to leave. Otherwise, when you get rid of one inner conflict (kashaya), four more take its place. If you do not guard against this, their whole army will move in. When are you able to guard against them? It is when you become the Self. An entire army that causes clash is present within you. If you do not have a ‘security guard’, all the ‘thieves’ will take over within. June 2009
What if tendency to create clash does not arise! If clash within (kalushit bhaav, tendency towards clash) does not decrease day by day, beastliness will prevail, not humanity. What is the definition of worthiness of worldly worship and reverence (lokpujya)? In this era of the current time cycle, a status which people do not condemn (loknindya), the Lord calls this worthy of worship (lokpujya). The Lord was very wise about this, His disciples however are not; they do not have the awareness that they should not let anything tarnish their praise worthy status which the Lord has thus defined. Otherwise persons truly worthy of worship and reverence are very rare; there may be hardly two or three in the whole world. The disciples today worship and respect their gurus the way they do a policeman. They talk behind the guru’s back and say their guru is not even worth talking about! Krupadudev, Shrimad Rajchandra was truly worthy of worship by the world (lokpujya). Lokpujya status (gotra) is the highest of all status. The Lord was lokpujya. When conflict (kalushit) causing intent (bhaav) do not arise, one becomes worthy of worship. And when the one in whom all conflict causing intentions completely vanish and when he does not become a nimit evidentiary causal factor for arising of conflict causing intents in anyone, at all, then he is considered a God.
What mistake remains? The entire world has been wandering in transmigrations life after life because of ‘exercising care.’ This is the ‘multiplication’ through interference of the ego. There is no need to take care at all, nor is it necessary to be ‘careless.’ To be careless You will have to ‘divide’ that which was multiplied previously and there again you will have to become the doer. The whole day one is in worry, worry and worry of ‘exercising care’. Yet he does not accomplish anything and nothing is gained. In spite of having all the good food, drinks and 13

earnings no one is happy. What kind of a thing is this? One’s worldly interactive life vyavahar should be free of conflict, should it not? Would the worldly interactive life vyavahar be such that it has an intrinsic built in clash in it? Vyavahar is indeed clash free, but the problem is that one does not know how to live life. That is why clash arises within him.
At least try the experiment At least decide that you do not want any conflicts. Do this for three days; what’s wrong in trying the experiment? People experiment with fasting, they’ll fast for three days for their health – so why not try this? Everyone in the household should get together and decide, ‘We like what Dada is saying. Let us all make a decision to do away with conflicts.’ Do this and see what happens.
What kind of an education is this? There is never a reason to clash and mourn (kaan) needlessly about anything in this world. If a young woman without children, twenty years old or so, becomes a widow without anyone to look after her, one may cry and mourn about her. By kaan I mean there is nothing in this world worth getting into clash over. And yet there is nothing but clash and clash and clash, the whole day long. Hey you! What have you learned? This is not called learning, is it? Should you not learn the theory of relativity?
Keep mending in the relative world These are all relative relationships. You have to fulfill your obligations but you do not have to become uncompromising and adamant in the process. Bring about a quick solution. Nevertheless if the other person keeps fighting with you, you can tell him, ‘I have always been dumb. I do not know what to do.’ Detach yourself from these people in anyway that you can and do not worry about him or her taking control and dominating you. What can anyone do to you? No one has the power to do so. People are dictated by their own karma, so no 14
matter what, live each day without any conflict, and worry about tomorrow when it comes. And if there is a conflict the next day, do the best you can to bring about a resolution. This is how you should pass your days.
That which destroys worry is a path of liberation In his worldly interactions if he worries constantly, he will have to undergo many more lives. That is because worries cause bondage for a new life. Questioner: But what do I do to stop worrying? Dadashri: For that you have to come to a ‘Gnani Purush’ and receive his grace. Then your worries will end and your daily worldly activities will carry on in harmony. Questioner: The senior people in the family would feel the worry, would they not? Dadashri: One feels the worry due to lack of understanding. Laborers do not have worries while bosses do. None of the laborers worries. This will result in a higher life form for the laborer and a lower life form for the bosses in their next life. Therefore there should not be any worries. Worry is the cause of a lower life form. Will you gain anything from worrying? Questioner: No, nothing. Dadashri: There is nothing to be gained through worries. Then why would someone do a business like that? If there is any gain to be had from worry then you should do it. Are you fond of worrying? Questioner: No, I want peace. Dadashri: Worry is a fire. It will happen like this and it will happen like that. Once in a while, you get the opportunity of becoming an individual with good value systems, and if at that time you are consumed by worries, a great opportunity is wasted. Grave indeed is the consequence of not realizing this. If you want peace then I will stop your worries forever. June 2009
DADAVANI
The path of liberation starts the moment you stop worrying. Worry should stop the moment you do the darshan of a vitarag Lord, but you do not even know how to do darshan. Questioner: We are just a child in front of you. Dadashri: Yes, that is the only reason I am saying that you do not know even how to do darshan. The Gnani shows you how to do darshan (i.e. spiritual experience) of the Lord. Otherwise it is not possible. Until then the fire of worries continues to burn, like sweet potatoes being roasted within their own skin? Such is the life of all who worry. People eat fresh vegetables, wear nice clothes and still worry. People worry so much. Do you ever get into conflict? Questioner: No matter how much we are enjoying each other’s company, but some words will come forth that result in conflict. Dadashri: An occasional clash that happens once in a month is acceptable, not daily clash. You do not like it and yet the clash happens, does it not? Then who is doing that? The very words that you detest come forth. The reason of all this is ignorance. You can attain peace if ignorance leaves.
God resides where there are no conflicts How humans, men and women pass their worldly life in India is also a wonder, is it not? They pass through lots of difficulties, even then the mother in the household resolves conflicts and calms everybody down and then goes to sleep at night; however God will not reside as long as conflict continues in the home. Everybody does not like to do conflicts, do they? But conflicts happen on their own then what can one do? Did you understand about conflict? Are you staying by yourself or you are staying with family? Questioner: I am staying with my brother, sister, mother and father. June 2009
Dadashri: Some day you may be having clash at home in this situation, do you? Questioner: It happens sometime. Dadashri: Who gets rids of that situation then? Does that situation of clash remain as it is whole night in the home or you get rid of it? Questioner: We get rid of it. Dadashri: How do you get rid of it? By striking it with a stick? These people want to get rid of the environment, which creates conflicts, but how can they do so? Questioner: One should forget the conflict and create an environment of joy. Dadashri: It is like this, all these lives have been fractured, minds have been fractured, and intellect has been fractured. What are people looking for in this time cycle? So now again everybody’s mind should become strong. When does the mind become strong? It becomes strong when one does the darshan—seeing with understanding—of the Gnani Purush. Just the simple act of ‘seeing’ the Gnani Purush makes the mind strong.
Every intellect has a different opinion Are these just one kind of pumpkin shell (toombda) used as a receptacle? They are of so many varieties! As many shells—human packing—that many are the intellects. Toonde toonde matirbhinna—every individual human receptacle—non-Self complex has a separate and unique intellect. As long as one did not let conflict enter in his home, and one exercised that much care, the definition of toonda was appropriate. Nowadays they let in conflict and this is the naïveté that leads to them being addressed as dried hard hollow squash shells— mere receptacles (toombada) without much substance. Nowadays conflict has entered, has it not? You make a solid protective fence even then conflict manages to get in, does it not? Finally conflict will enter even through a drain. People keep the door closed, they keep a stopper so door will only open if someone rings a bell, 15
DADAVANI
but even then conflicts enter through a drain. Why did we say toombda (pumpkin-head), they eat home cooked meal, wear nice clothes, it is not like everybody is stealing and still they do clash. Clash is created and consumed within the home only; that is how people have become nowadays. Now the wounds due to clashes, has wounded their minds, has wounded the chit (subtle component of vision and knowledge in the inner functioning instrument called antahkaran), has wounded their ego. These people’s ego is verily injured, what is the need to reprimand them? If you scold them then your speech will be of no use. Some peoples’ chit has been wounded so they wander around like double-chit zombies. Some peoples’ mind has been wounded so the whole day they move about as if the fire of the entire world is going to consume them.
separate from ‘Chandulal and ‘Chandulal’s mindbody-speech, bhaavkarma—charge karma, dravyakarma-nokarma—subtle and gross discharge karma’; ‘we’ request, ‘please shower Your grace on ‘Chandulal—the non-Self complex of the opponent’. I make all these connections. Then I remain vitarag (detached). The other person is upset and noncommunicative (risavu) and I am fine and straightforward, and such worldly interaction continues. He may remain perplexed for a while and then it all goes away. Questioner: Then, Dada, is it not true that a man who is apt to resorting to becoming upset and non-communicative (risavu), will automatically stop if he does not get any encouragement for such a behavior? Dadashri: ‘We’ never encourage such people, not even a little. Encouragement has a negative effect on such individuals.
The unique method of vitaragata
Intense mental note creates conflict
Questioner: How do you deal with someone who becomes upset and noncommunicative (risavu) with you?
Even children will improve if you remain vitarag with them but by encouraging their upset and non-communicative behavior, they will get on the wrong path. You need vitaragata (detached interaction)! Treat them with tender care if they come to you and do not react if they do not. If they come, hug them gently and if they get agitated just leave them alone. Then if they come again, hug them again. You should not concern yourself with the way they are behaving; you simply have to remain vitarag. Whatever they do, you should not be concerned about it and neither should you make a deep mental note (nondha) of it.
Dadashri: With complete vitaragbhaav; complete non-attachment from within, along with the deep inner intent of salvation of that person. ‘We’ do not have any inner insistence of any kind. There is no intention of appeasing anyone either. If ‘we’ feel that in trying to appease the other person it will have a contrary effect, then ‘we’ would not say anything. If it is going to have a positive effect, then ‘we’ will say a few words to him, ‘Sir, ‘we’ made a mistake, please be patient. We are all prone to mistakes.’ ‘We’ would explain things to him in this way and pacify him. However there would be no insistence on ‘our’ part, there is complete vitaragata within. Constant vitaragata detachment! There would not be the least bit of pull (bhaav) towards him or repulsion (abhaav) away from him. And then we have to tell ‘Dada Bhagwan’, please grace this man.’ Then, to the pure Soul, who is 16
Questioner: That is a tremendous thing, Dada. Dadashri: There should be no intense mental note (nondha) whatsoever. Nondha creates conflicts. Do not make a mental note of anyone. We scold all these people but ‘we’ never make any note of it. I would go crazy if I were to make any note at all. ‘We’ got rid of the notebook altogether long ago! June 2009

Attachment-abhorrence is the root of conflict Questioner: I have read at one place in Aptavani that the seed of dwesh abhorrence is sown by raag attachment and the seed of raag attachment is sown by dwesh abhorrence, please explain this a little; how does it happen? Dadashri: Both are opposite to each other only. The attachment creates abhorrence and abhorrence creates attachment. Attachment and abhorrence will not touch a vitarag (one who is free from all attachment and abhorrence). Questioner: Please explain more how dwesh abhorrence arises from raag attachment? Dadashri: You may be very attached to someone, but when it becomes excessive it turns into dwesh abhorrence. Questioner: It becomes excessive abhorrence arises, is an accomplished principle; please explain it further with an example. Dadashri: Quarrel that happens everyday in the home is verily due to that; it is due to raag attachment. When attachment becomes excessive then abhorrence occurs. Everyday the result of attachment is this abhorrence. The reason for clash is dwesh abhorrence. When much attachment arises then dislike and aversion arises. Familiarity to a certain extent results in attachment and when it crosses the ridge point it results in abhorrence. The moment abhorrence begins; the causes for attachment are sown. And in all this, raagdwesh—attachment-abhorrence is an ‘effect’ and ignorance is the ‘cause’.
Conflict can be destroyed through intellect too A human life should be without the conflicts. Conflicts do not occur in the animal life forms. These animals would cry during June 2009
internal suffering because of pain. Conflicts do not occur in any other life forms except human life. Would it be appropriate to have conflicts among the human beings? Yet some mistake remains that creates the conflicts. The Lord has said that, one can avoid the conflicts with the intellect and Gnan is not required for this. The right use of intellect can destroy the conflicts. However, people have started the factories of conflicts! Now where can we export this? The foreign countries are very prosperous with all the material things; still they need to use the sleeping pills to have a sleep. They own the gold and the wealth of the entire world, yet they have to resort to taking sleeping pills. Sleep is that which comes naturally. This taking a sleeping pill is making one numb and dull, like taking an anesthetic. Instead, why not stay awake? Is this not better than becoming numb and dull? First thing I will ask an intelligent person is if he has conflicts in his home. There is no problem if they occur once in a month, but...so he tells me, ‘That still goes on.’ So I tell him, ‘you do not have any intellect at all. You just believe that you have, that is all.’ Intelligent people can do wonderful things, but only if the intellect (buddhi) moves in the right direction. Mostly it moves around in the wrong direction and does not go in the right direction. The one whose intellect has turned to the right side will make sure that there is no conflict in his home. Those conflicts will go away if he removes them gradually by settling with them through his intellect. But I have seen more conflicts in the homes of intelligent people. So one gentleman asks me, ‘What is this called? Why is there so much conflict?’ I said to him, ‘this is called a cube ghan—solidified ghanchakkar—the one who revolves in established conflicts!’ Instead of getting rid of the conflict, it has increased in your home? It should not be so.
Who is the one with the right intellect? Lord
Krishna
has
said
that 17
DADAVANI
avyabhicharini—right buddhi—intellect means ‘straight way’. The intellect of such a person is such that no one interferes with him, and he does not interfere with anyone. Once I asked a very intelligent man, ‘Do you have conflict at home?’ He said, ‘There is no conflict, but I do not like sitting at home.’ I told him, ‘you are such an intelligent person, have you pawned your intelligence or what?’ An intelligent person would wisely find a solution. He would find a solution if his wife had become upset with him so that she will not attack him again. He will find a way to stop the fight from arising again. He will never have the stance that, ‘If you act up and ever attack again, I will give you a dose you will never forget.’ For a man to attack a woman is a grave and tremendous fault. On the path to moksha intellect is interference and in worldly life matters, intellect is helpful. But that intellect should be within normality. If it is in excess, the wife would say, ‘He fights whole day.’ Those with excess intellect will always fight. Now who is the true intelligent person? It is the one who stops fighting. Instead of starting the fight, he starts stopping the fights. That is why they call ‘us’ shrewd. No matter how bad a difficulty ‘we’ are in, ‘we’ bring an end to it.
Decide that intellect is useless in the path of Liberation Questioner: Then what should one with such an intellect do, if he wants to become natural (sahaj)? Dadashri: That intellect continues to go down naturally. When one decides that such intellect has no value, it begins to go down. Anything you consider of value, it will continue to increase within and that which has gone down in value, it will go down. This intellect continued to increase because you had considered it to be of value. 18
Questioner: The veil of intellect should be washed off, should it not? Dadashri: It exists as long as we have a need for it. But people are still working towards increasing it. They have looked for ways to increase it. They keep digging for intellect and nurture it. That intellect has increased. Only humans are over wise. Thy have made extra use of their intellect.
Intellect goes down if the light of the Gnan increases Intellect goes down—decreases in application—only if the light of the Gnan increases otherwise it will not. Questioner: Does one not need intellect even when there is the light of the Gnan? Dadashri: No, You can know everything in the light of the Gnan. It is possible to see everything clearly—as it is—with this light of Gnan. Still, this light will not work to run whatever worldly life has come to us as a nimit unfolding evidence. In that vyavahar unfolding worldly interaction, that other light of intellect is associated with it in every action, for sure. Unnecessary intellect is that which shows things like, this will happen and that will happen, it will continue to show you negative things. It will do the meddling. Does it make you emotional or not? I am telling you to reduce such intellect. The other intellect is there, that will arise naturally. It will remain along with the act. Dim light will always be there. You do not need full light—light of the Self there to interact in the worldly life. These four, mind-intellect-chit-ego, exist as the antahkaran. There is nothing wrong with that, but the problem lies with the excess intellect, and such intellect is not necessary at all. Questioner: Even the one who has not attained this Gnan, if he is following a simple and straight forward path and in his own way he lives his life with honesty and truth, then what is the difference between his abhaav— June 2009
DADAVANI
aloofness and aversion for conflict towards conflict and that of the one who has taken Gnan? Dadashri: The other abhaav for conflict was through intellect and this lack of predilection abhaav is natural and spontaneous sahaj. Doership goes away in this; there is no doership in it.
Clash does not remain after Gnan Questioner: Despite taking Gnan, having received the Gnan from You, the mind is filled with conflict. Why is that? Dadashri: That is not considered conflict-clash. It is considered a state of restlessness of the mind. Therefore continue ‘seeing’ it. You do not enter the mind. You do not have to become one with (tanmayakar) the mind. Why do you have to touch that anymore? If you make a mistake and you do not know the switch, you will start the fan even on a cold winter day. Having known it, there is nothing. Questioner: Therefore if we keep seeing it after Gnan, are the thoughts considered to have stopped? Dadashri: You do not have to be concerned with whether the thoughts have stopped or not. Whatever is ‘seen’ cannot touch You. When you are watching a bon fire, do your eyes get burnt? Why do they not get burnt in ‘seeing’ the fire? Nothing happens in the ‘seeing—jovoon’; if you stick your finger in it then it will get burnt. ‘This bad thought has come,’ is the sticking of the finger in the fire. When the mind is doing good thoughts or bad thoughts, or whatever kind of thoughts; then it proves that it is the mind. Good thoughts and bad thoughts are through the social-relative view point, and not God’s real view point. According to the real view point of the fully enlightened One—God, the mind is in its natural state. The worldly life, of the one who has no June 2009
conflict of any kind through the mind, is considered dissolved. The onset of lack of any predilection for any intent and tendency for clash kalushit bhaav is verily moksha.
Awareness against conflict Now first and foremost, conflict (klesh) or overt quarrel kankaas should not remain in the home. This is because you have become Shuddhatma—pure Soul and Chandubhai—the non-Self is separate. If Chandubhai is getting angry with the wife then You should tell Chandubhai, ‘why are you doing like this? The whole life you have done just that.’ You have to reprimand your self. If you confront each other then there will be clash so You should tell Chandubhai; will such inner conversation suit you? You should tell Chandubhai, ‘why are you doing like this? We are one family in the home.’ You should reprimand him if he does something wrong. You should pat his shoulder and reprimand him. Again you should pat his shoulder and say, ‘ ‘we’ are with you.’ This is how it will settle. If the outburst has been in excess then You should reprimand him, ‘Chandubhai, why are you fighting? Are these considered good qualities? Why are you doing like this?’ But You do not have any authority in your hands, do you? You are separate. You are gnata-drashta—knower-seer. You give advice as a neighbor; that is it. There is no ownership at all! If You become the owner then only You will have responsibility, will you not? There is no responsibility. Whatever Chandubhai does, You are not responsible for that, that is the way ‘we’ have given you this Gnan.
Do not look for justice, ‘see’ only the result This worldly people do not know Vyavasthit—scientific circumstantial evidence; that is why they suffer the loss. ‘If you had done this way then it would have happened like 19
DADAVANI
this, you ruined it this way and you ruined it that way’, creates conflicts. People do not know Vyavasthit at all. Otherwise if they had known about Vyavasthit when china tea cups shatter and break—event of loss—then there would not be any problem at all, would there? But they go outside of Vyavasthit, don’t they? That they go outside of Vyavasthit is also Vyavasthit. Their Vyavasthit is like that. This is because as long as ignorance is there, it is (agnan) ignorance Vyavasthit. Vyavasthit depends on the self or the Self. It is not arranged in the manner one expects; it depends on everybody. Now when the result unfolds, one complains, ‘why is it like this?’ He proclaims a judgment. He does not have to bring in justice there. He has to keep ‘seeing’ the result, because the result is not in anyone’s hand. Just continue ‘seeing’ it, it is correct and natural sahajik. But one questions and complains, ‘how come this is so avyavasthit not in order?
Dadashri: No. After Gnan how can kashays confuse You?
Questioner: Whatever result unfolds, one has to continue ‘seeing’ it.
Dadashri: Yes, you have to definitely speak at that time. When it tries to get in then can you not understand and reject that, ‘hey, you are not mine, why are you trying to get into someone else’s home?’ You have to speak like this. Vyavahar means one has to speak each and every word.
Dadashri: Yes. Vyavasthit means that one’s account is fed in that ‘computer’. And the result that comes is all the arrangedVyavasthit—scientific circumstantial evidence. ‘Vyavasthit’ means other circumstances of nature have come together in an arrangement, in an orderly manner of unfolding. So all this depends on one’s self and Self (potey). Vyavasthit is not pre-printed just like that. As you ‘do’ bhaav inner intent, according to that Vyavasthit will unfold for you, prearranged.
Questioner: Those kashays occur in file number one, do puzzle a lot. Therefore uneasiness arises and then conflicts continue to happen. Dadashri: But it does not happen to You, does it? Questioner: In the belief it is so that it is not happening to me, but the experience that is there, I do not like that experience. Dadashri: You just say this much that this is ‘not mine,’ then it will not touch You at all. If you address whatever is in your belief by saying, ‘not mine,’ then it will not touch You. If you do not treat it this way, it will manage to get in and take hold of you. Questioner: But do I have to speak again and again?
Questioner: An hour later I become aware that it is not mine. Dadashri: If you speak so then it will not come in again at all. It will simply say, ‘I am leaving.’ This will not touch You at all.
From here onwards the kashays of worldly interactions tend to puzzle
The one who is beyond pain will not have conflict at all
After Gnan, gradually kashays: angerpride-deceit-greed become weak. These kashays are only relative worldly interaction— vyavahar kashays. These are not nischaya kashays—of the Self. But they tend to become weak. Finally one should not have even relative kashays.
Why is this sansar worldly life interaction life after life, continuing? It is so because of conflict.
Questioner: These vyavahar kashays are verily confusing a lot. 20
There is not reason in this world that is worth doing the slightest conflict. So there is not any reason, which would bring forth pain within. This is because the Self is the state of bliss. The Self—potey is Atma-Soul and no one can take away its bliss. By nature it is June 2009

avyabaadha—beyond pain, it never renders nor receives any pain. The awakened One has such a glorious and splendid state, and one should not depend on or be involved with that which is the non-Self, of the foreign department. Foreign means foreign, there you have to be superficial. Dada gave us Gnan, now nothing is ours. On the contrary this mind-speech-body which used to be ours, have been entrusted to Dada; we surrendered three baggages. Once surrendered, one cannot use them without asking Dada. However ‘we’ have given the permission saying, ‘settle the files.’
Circumstances by their nature are prone to dissociate The numbers of files arise directly in proportion to the numbers of circumstances sanyog. That may be in the form of a human being or may be in another form or may be in this form. The numbers of files are directly in proportion to the numbers of circumstances and they are all prone to dissociate viyog. That is why, do sambhave nikal settle files with equanimity. These three people came and the files were settled with equanimity, is there any uproar at all? Do ten to fifteen files come to ‘us’ everyday or not? Questioner: A lot more. Dadashri: ‘We’ would settle all, ‘we’ would settle with equanimity. Some may be with opposite nature, some may be of such nature, but we do have to settle with equanimity, don’t we? It is in ‘our’ awareness only that he is Shuddhatma—pure Soul, but right now he is as a ‘file’ for me. What should You do with a file, You have to understand that! You have two visions drashti, from real (nischaya) view point he is faultless nirdosh, with relative (vyavahar) view point also he is faultless and then this file is to be settled with equanimity. There will be no claim noted down on my name at any place. So any sanyog a June 2009
circumstance does not hinder You, such a science (Vignan) ‘we’ have given you. A circumstance where in someone snatching your purse may happen, then you would fight or fuss in vyavahar worldly interaction but it should not affect You internally at all. Everything is a circumstance only. And any circumstance does not remain forever. Circumstances (sanyog) by nature are prone to dissociate (viyog). Any circumstance that will come in front of you is by nature prone to dissociate. So you will not need to remove that. Otherwise no one would become a vitarag the one who is free from all attachments. There are only two things: the pure Soul and circumstances. So settle all the files with equanimity.
The two tasks of antaratma When one became Shuddhatma—pure Soul, then, ‘this is file number one.’ That which was our entrapment in fault (ganeygari), has resulted in this file number one, and no one else was at fault in this. As long as this faultladen file exists we have not become pure State Self (shuddhatmaroopa). This is because as long as a settlement of file one’s accounts are pending, one cannot Be the pure Self, that is when we are in the state of antaratma the Self within in an interim government state— awakened but not completely free. Antaratma has two tasks. When no file is there to be settled, it enters into the meditation as the Self, and when there is a file to be settled then it settles the file.
Settling the account of file number one Questioner: When can we say that the account of file number one has been truly settled? Dadashri: When the file number one is very angry and at that time if it cools down, then know that file number one is really settled. Questioner: Please explain that exactly. 21
DADAVANI
Dadashri: The file will boil and get angry for sure, but now onwards it will all go away. Always whatever sanyog associated circumstance is there will dissociate (viyog) for sure. So it will definitely dissociate by itself. Until then You should not leave Your steadiness and stillness. It will go away. We had done— created the circumstances—in the past life. Is there anyone else’s discharge interference (dakhal) in this within? If there is, then a compliant would be justified. You cannot even speak, can you? Should we not understand the result of our own discharge interference (dakhal)? Therefore, if You ‘see’ from far away then it will leave. Questioner: Dada, when I settle this file number one, whatever is happening within it keeps arising in the vision; so does that mean that settlement of file number is happening? Dadashri: Why it will not happen though? Before we did not have vision that file number one is with us. Whatever we were doing we used to say that ‘I verily am doing it.’ Now file number one is doing it, and You are ‘knowing’ that. Questioner: It happens that conflict is happening within and I am simultaneously knowing that too. Dadashri: Conflict does not occur at all. This science is such that the conflict does not arise at all. Questioner: So then what is that which happens inside? Dadashri: It is suffocation. When entanglements arise, because of the lack of understanding, you get confused.
settling file number one with equanimity?’ Then someone says, ‘what is there to be settled in file number one?’ Hey, the real file is verily file number one. This pain dukha that we have, the pain and misery that is felt within, is due to unnaturalness (asahajata). Someone had asked me, ‘this is file number one, what is the problem if we do not consider it as a file? How does calling it a file help us? It is not much help-gain in this.’ Then I answered, ‘this living being has harassed this file very much and intensely for a long time, and as a consequence it has become unnatural. Questioner: Mahatmas attained this awareness—bhaan, ‘I am Shuddhatma’, so can it be said that the goal is attained? Dadashri: But the completion— purnahuti of the goal should occur, no? Completion of the goal. Therefore, follow only the goal of, ‘I am Shuddhatma.’
At the shore of fulfilling the goal When it is freezing cold one does not remember the blanket and only the Self remains in memory. Questioner: Is that considered proceeding according to the goal? Dadashri: That is the goal—dhyeya. Questioner: Now in that situation; how would it be for the one who is following the Agnas? The one who remains in Agna, what kind of adjustment he would have at the time of the extreme cold weather?
The subtle settlement of file number one
Dadashri: He who is following the Agna, will settle the file with equanimity, he will not have any problem. But the true one after the goal is the other one that at the time of the extreme cold, he will not be looking for a blanket to cover himself up but will remain as the Self. Nonetheless, the greatest benefit you got is that the clashes are gone after attaining the Self, no more arguments and clashes!
I am asking our mahatmas, ‘are you
Questioner: But you said that if it is
Questioner: Dada, how can we rid of this suffocation? Dadashri: You abide by Agnas of the Gnani Purush properly and systematically.

not fulfilling the goal then it could blow up the seat. Dadashri: One can end up living some more lives. Questioner: Some means how many? Dadashri: But at least he has arrived in the limit of countable births. If one lives only one life without conflict then also he has reached the limit. The meaning of the experience of the Soul (atmanubhav) is that the experiences after attaining Gnan are different from the experiences before Gnan. These experiences are of a new order; they keep on increasing gradually, along with the increase in awareness. Complete awareness is complete experience.
The beginning of awareness is the state of absence of kashayas First, awareness in the physical selfpudgal should arise. After attaining Selfrealization, when one remains asleep ‘to’ the non-Self, awareness as the Self atma jagruti increases. When milk gets spilt, do the young children bicker and harass each other? No, why is that? It is because of ignorance. As the child grows, he becomes aware of the pudgal the non-Self complex of mind, speech and body, and then his conflicts begin. There after comes awareness of the Self. Children do not have awareness of the process of worldly life interaction vyavahar jagruti. Nobody has such awareness. A person with the awareness of the worldly life interaction (vyavahar) would not have divisiveness due to differences of opinion matabheda at home or outside. He would not get into conflicts with anyone. A person with worldly awareness vyavahar jagruti will not let any circumstance arise that would create conflicts in his home. The three kashays of greed, deceit and illusionary attachment play very powerful role in awareness of worldly life (vyavahar June 2009
jagruti). In awareness of the Self (nischaya jagruti), anger, pride, deceit and greed come to an end. What does it mean when we talk about sleeping? What is the meaning of awakening? You will need to understand this, will you not? The world thinks of people who have a ‘PhD’ as being a very ‘aware’ person. A truly aware person is someone who is extraordinary. True awareness is one that is present during the functioning of all the four components namely the mind, the intellect, the chit and the ego of the antahkaran—the inner working complex. What is awareness? Awareness begins when, under no circumstance, one does not have any conflict with the self and thus becomes mired in conflict. The second step is that one does not experience any conflict on account of others and this awareness then progresses on to the natural state of continuous uninterrupted bliss of the Self (sahaj samadhi). If one has awakened then one must taste the fruit of the awakening. If clash happens then how can one be called awake? How can you say that one is aware if he hurts anyone even slightly? The one who has attained the conflict free state has indeed done a very great purusharth inner endeavor of the awakened Self. The ultimate awareness is that everyone in the world is ‘seen’ as flawless. Total awareness jagruti is the absolute prevalence of Gnan, which is in the form of Gnata—Knower and gneya—that which is being known.
Elimination of conflict is liberation After meeting the Gnani Purush conflicts will not arise regardless of how unpleasant the atmosphere may be. What an amazing Gnan this ‘Dada’ has given to his mahatmas! They never experience any grief and enjoy the bliss of the Vitarag. Elimination of conflicts is liberation. You experience the liberation here and now.
