EDITORIAL Just as one is speechless when it comes to describing the radiance of the sun, the horizon of the sky and the fathomless depth of the ocean, one is at a loss when it comes to attempt to describe Pujya Dadashri’s speech. This unprecedented speech, which has come forth for the salvation of the world, gives easy solutions to the questions of religion as well as daily life interactions. We know that the speech is a necessary medium for daily life interactions or for the exchange of knowledge. Speech has the energy to harm or help other living beings and it also has the energy to liberate human beings. The matchless Gnanvani—speech laden with liberating knowledge, which has arisen as the ultimate instrument for the salvation of the world through the medium of Akram Vignani Pujya Dadashri is considered a wonder of this current time cycle. Wonderful description about the speech of a Gnani Purush or Tirthankara Lords are there, but how such speech should be in worldly interactions is difficult to state, except for the Gnani Purush himself. Gnani Purush Dadashri has given the solutions to thousands of questions through his speech without referring from any book or scripture. Dadashri’s speech has given satisfaction to the followers of every religion without hurting the foundation of any religion. The Lord has said that, ‘There is no other solution except for the vitarag speech. ‘Vitarag speech accomplished speech siddha, it is acceptable to every soul and every religion, it is pleasant to the soul, and it is unprecedented speech apoorva, speech that has never been heard before, it is speech that gives simple and precise understanding, it is acceptable to followers as well as the opponents or the non-believers.’ This vitarag speech of Dadashri is not in the form of updesh preaching or pravachan an uninterrupted discourse but it is in the form of deshna liberating utterances of the fully enlightened one—arihant, and that is the reason it brings internal results without doing anything. a fact. Dadashri says, ‘the religious lectures you listen elsewhere is a religion. The speech of a saint has the marma internal meaning of a religion and when one attains hundred percent marma then he attains gnanark essence of knowledge. ‘We’ are imparting this gnanark to you, and that is the reason you experience the Self. This is a direct speech which expresses after having ‘touched’ the fully enlightened Lord within, this speech is pratyaksh direct Saraswati (Goddess of Speech). Your mind rests the moment you listen to this speech, the kashayas: anger, pride, deceit, greed become lifeless the moment you listen to this speech and you experience the bliss of the Self. Except a Gnani, who can give a detail understanding and experience of the speech of a Gnani Purush? Information about extraordinary forms of his speech is evident from his satsang. And our hearts become full with love when we find out about this astonishing speech. The speech of a Gnani Purush is living; it is direct Saraswati, without attachment or abhorrence, egoless, beneficial to self and others, syadvaad (never hurts the other), anekant (accepting of different viewpoints), sweet, melodious, impartial, and matchless. This speech has the energy to annihilate the ego and all sexuality. It does not hurt anyone, it may be stern but it is loving and compassionate, it is devoid of mistake, it stems from perfect experience, it is applicable to the past, the present and the future, it is original and pure. Dadashri’s speech has come forth only for the salvation of many and was dependent on the unfolding interaction of the person in front of him. How can you evaluate such unprecedented priceless speech? His speech has four qualities: it would be beneficial to others (hiit), it would be brief and to the point (miit), it would be pleasant to the listener (prit) and it would be the truth (satya). Dadashri says, ‘I say what I see in my kevalgnan absolute knowledge. That is the reason I give solutions all the way to kevalgnan.’ Every word of the Gnani encompasses infinite scriptures and there is a potential of publishing thousands of books through that speech. This speech, which has no owner, is the speech, which will liberate millions. This original speech of a Gnani Purush awakens one to the eternal Self within, and this awakening shatters all wrong beliefs. We have tried to compile clips of this speech in this Dadavani issue. It is with the sincere prayer that it flourishes in the heart of the reader and takes him further along towards final liberation, as it unfolds in his thoughts, speech and action.

The nature of the speech of the Gnani Questioner: We feel so surprised by listening to your speech. How wonderful this speech is! Dada, what are the unique qualities of your speech? Dadashri: ‘Our—the Gnani Purush’s’ speech is vitaragi—free of any attachments, nirmamatva without my-ness, nirahamkari egoless, beneficial to the self and others swapar heetkari, sweet to listen, touches the heart, devoid of attachment and abhorrence and syadvaad accepted by all viewpoints. That is why people experience anand bliss the moment they listen to it. Questioner: What does syadvaad equanimity mean? Dadashri: It is a speech that will not hurt the foundation of any religion. It is a speech that is acceptable to Vaishnavs, Jains, Parsis, Muslims, everybody. It is not ekantik myopic view-point, it is anekantik pluralistic. Questioner: Is it considered insistencefree? Dadashri: Yes, you can say that. There is no insistence of any kind in it. Questioner: In having niragrahi noninsistence speech, do you have to think before speaking or not? Dadashri: No. If a person were to think before he says anything, then his speech would never be without insistence or obstinacy. The Gnani’s speech is with jagruti awareness. It is only for the benefit of others. He remains in the awareness that does not harm anyone’s welfare. May 2008

The one who listens repeatedly and enthusiastically to speech of the Gnani Purush, will find his own speech becoming like that of the Gnani. Nothing comes out of merely copying and reciting it. Questioner: When does syadvaad speech come out? Dadashri: When all the karma are destroyed; anger, pride, illusion and greed are destroyed then syadvaad speech will come out. The complete science of the Vitarag Lords must come forth. It only comes out if there is a direct experience of the Soul. Until then all talk is intellectual; it is worldly talk. Until the speech becomes syadvaad (such that it does not hurt anyone listening to the slightest extent) there is a grave liability in preaching about the path of moksha. When does syadvaad speech arise? When the basis and foundation of the ego comes to an end. When the whole world is seen as flawless; when no one is seen at fault at all. To not hurt the foundation of any religion is considered syadvaad speech. Syadvaad speech is absolute. Everyone’s prakruti nonSelf complex is different, and yet syadvaad speech does not hinder anyone’s prakruti. All these words are being said, yet in it all, ‘I—the enlightened One’ am not the speaker of anything. ‘I’ am not the speaker of even a single word. Really, it is your punya merit karma, that causes these words to come forth. ‘We’ are able to assess your punya based on the speech that comes out. This speech is a taped record; ‘We’ have nothing to do with it. What is this speech like? It is completely 3

syadvaad; it is a speech that does not hurt anyone, not in the least, and it accepts every viewpoint. Such is this speech, absolutely syadvaad. When I say anything, the soul of the other person will definitely accept it. If he does not accept, it is due to his obstinacy. Mistakes cannot occur because it is not my speech. Where ‘my speech’ exists, mistakes will occur. Nischay Gnan the knowledge of the Self does not exist in books. It is hidden in the heart of the Gnanis. And when we listen to it, through the form of vani speech, then our solutionsalvation happens. One will not have any indigestion— negative reaction from listening to ‘our’ speech. It is the absolute essence of liberating knowledge gnanark. It is completely digestible and will not give anyone indigestion. You should not disturb a single word of the Gnani Purush; there is great danger in doing so. Even if only one word of the Gnani is absorbed within, it will liberate one, take him to moksha. No solution without Vitarag speech When someone asked the Lord, ‘What is the solution-instrument-method for moksha?’ The Lord replied, ‘Except for the speech that is vitarag, there is no other solution.’ Such a speech is siddha has attained the ultimate and it grows and flourishes and comes forth from the listener. Questioner: What is the foundation-level of vitarag speech? Dadashri: Vitarag speech means that it is acceptable to every soul and every religion. Only an obstinate person will not accept it. Vitarag speech is pleasant to the soul whereas the other speeches are pleasant to the mind. The moment you hear the vitarag speech, it will appear as new; a speech that has never 4

been heard or read of before. Vitarag speech is that which is acceptable to the followers as well as the opponents-the non-believers. Even the non-believers will say, ‘It is true but it does not suite us.’ The easiest way to recognize a Vitarag is through his speech. You will come to understand its value depending upon how astute you are at estimating its value. This vitarag speech liberates Only the speech that is free of any attachment, can lead you to liberation. Our speech is direct whereas the speech found in the scriptures is indirect. If you were to hear direct speech for just one hour, you will become enlightened. Our speech accepts all doctrines. It is one that accepts all viewpoints. This is because I am sitting in the center. My speech is impartial. People of all religious sects, Hindus, Muslims, Parsis and Khojas, listen to my speech and they all accept me as an Aptapurush (absolutely trustworthy person). I do not have any intellect that discriminates and divides. I reside in everyone: I am the speaker and the listener too. Vitarag speech is the only speech that is filled with the intent of total spiritual salvation of others. That speech itself will take one all the way to liberation. This speech is such that can remove the rust—the stale rusty state of the entire world. That is the reason they record the speech even at the time when I am brushing my teeth. These people do not leave even a word what I speak and then the books will be printed. People will attain salvation when they will read these books. The moment one reads this speech, his mind and heart rests knowing he has come home. This is the greatest wonder of this era of current time cycle. People in America were ecstatic after reading this Aptavani. This speech is very beneficial for the world. It is helpful for the world. May 2008

Speech filled with the energy of that which gives and sustains life The speech that this Dada speaks is heart-touching-Saraswati (Goddess of speech) and it touches the hearts of people. This is a very rare phenomenon. Heart touching speech, does not mean it comes out after touching my heart but it touches the heart of the other. It comes forth after ‘touching’ my Atma—Soul. The speech, which touches the heart, will have an effect on everybody. Such a speech is with vachansiddhi accomplished spiritual energy. Therefore this speech will give the energy of chaitanya the eternal life sustaining element. This speech will give the energy as much as chetan that in whose presence life is—does. It is because this is chitanyamaya filled with the eternal element—speech. Now chitanyamaya speech does not exist anywhere at all. But this speech comes out after touching chetan the Self that is why everything about it is felt as chitanyamaya. That speech which does not hurt, does not give pain to anybody is called samyakvani. And the speech which hurts others is kathorvani harsh speech. It is very important to admire and be devoted to attaining samyakvani, speech that does not hurt anyone and that is verily the greatest bhakti devotion of the God. Darshan of direct Saraswati The speech of a Gnani Purush is pratyaksh direct Saraswati and you can learn by listening to this speech. If you want to do darshan of the real presence of Saraswati, you can do so by listening to this speech. When speech becomes ‘Saraswati’ then it will touch people’s hearts and that is when people are blessed. It is difficult to find a speech May 2008

that will touch your heart. My speech will touch your heart and if only just one word of it is absorbed completely, it will take you all the way to moksha. The energy of conduct can be predicted through speech Gnani Purush’s speech is sweet and pleasant; it does not cause a negative reaction in anyone, it does not create any negative reactionary reaction in anyone who listens to it. Charitra—the conduct as the Self—is when the words that come forth do not hurt anyone to the slightest extent. One’s energy of charitra is recognized from his speech. There is no other way of recognizing charitrabud the energy of one’s conduct in the realm of the Self. If the intellect is syadvaad that which does not create a reaction in the other through hurting the ego of the other, it may appear to be syadvaad, but that is not sampoorna the ultimate and absolute. Whereas where there is a Gnan-syadvaad speech that flows in the State of Gnan then the charitra conduct of such a one is vitarag— without attachment or abhorrence. People of every religion accept Gnan-syadvaad as a standard. There is no insistence in such a speech. Questioner: What should one do to attain such a speech? Dadashri: Everyday you have to ask with bhaav hearty and prayerful intent that, ‘Let no one be hurt through my speech, and let it be such that it helps and pleases the other person.’ One attains it if one nurtures the causes of such speech. Speech, conduct and humility that wins everyone “Jena vani, vartan ne vinaya chhe manohar prem-atma.” “The One whose speech, conduct and humility wins everyone is the Soul of pure love.” 5

‘Our’ (referring to the Gnani Purush and the fully enlightened Lord within) speech is impartial, ‘our’ conduct is manohar (will win over minds of others) and vinay humility is very high. First, one must have the speech, then the conduct and then humility; all three must win over people’s minds. The conduct of the Gnani, his speech and his humility are such that they win your mind. Even though the Gnani is so elevated, his humility is matchless. So what is it that wins others’ minds? All these, the speech, the conduct and the humility, all are manohar they win over the minds of all. A person is appealing because of vinaya humility. And humility is a high state in spiritual and worldly evolution. Moksha is attained with absolute humility otherwise, one cannot attain moksha. There is no moksha without absolute humility—param vinaya. Speech must be thus. What is the use of speech that hurts others? So the speech should be such that will not hurt anyone in the family or out there in the relative world. If someone were to hurt one person in the family then can he not hurt more people? So he has the stock for sure. We do not need such stock at all. The Gnani Purush does not have such stock. The speech, conduct and humility of the Gnani Purush are manohar. People try to speak a lot but cannot speak right. They try to speak right but again they end up in a fiasco with the wrong speech. Questioner: Why does that happen? Dadashri: It is not under our control. It is a record. The way you had taped this record in your past life that is how it will play and the Gnani Purush is now here having cleansed that record over and over again in the past lives. The Gnani Purush has brought forth such a beautiful record that it accomplishes the 6

salvation of the world. The moksha is inevitable at the location where there is the one, whose speech, conduct and humility are manohar. One cannot attain moksha if there is the slightest himsa violence or partiality in speech. This unprecedented speech is amazing ‘Our’ speech is unique; it is speech that has never been heard before. If you keep listening to ‘our’ speech, and absorb and support (dharan) it within, and speak exact same words, then during that time the chit will begin to become amazingly focused. The speech that I speak breaks the veils of ignorance over You—the Self and that is why you begin to understand, otherwise you do not have capacity to understand even a word. The Gnani Purush has only talks that are of benefit to all. Even if you understand only two of His words, it is enough. If you understand just two of His words and if you take them to heart and digest only one of the two words, that word will not leave you until You attain liberation. That is how much energy there is behind the Gnani’s words (vachanbud). That is how effective these words are - vachan siddhi. The speech should be beneficial, brief, pleasant and truth It should have the following four qualities: It should be beneficial to others (hiit), it should be brief and to the point (miit), it should be pleasant to the listener (prit) and it should be the truth (satya). No matter how true what you say is, what good is it if it is not pleasant to the other person? This is a task for only the Gnani. Only a Gnani has speech with all four of these qualities. Whatever he says is always for the benefit of others; his speech is never uttered for his own self-gain. The Gnani has no ownership of any element of the non-Self May 2008

(potapanu). If there is even a hint of ownership, then he is not a Gnani. Gnani’s speech is dependent upon the wishes of the other person The speech of the Gnani is dependent upon the wishes of the other person. Gnani speaks depending on other person’s wish. Why would I have the need to speak? The Gnani’s speech emanates purely for fulfilling the wishes of others. Experiential ‘Gnan’ – ‘Vignan’ ‘Gnani Purush’ has ‘seen’ and experienced Atma—the Self, that is why when a ‘Gnani Purush’ speaks, from all angles and perspective, it is pure only. There is infinite scriptural knowledge in every word I speak. If a person understands these words and acts accordingly, he will achieve salvation. This science is such that you will have to take only one more birth before achieving liberation! You will forego hundreds of thousands of rebirths. With this science you will get rid of all your attachment and abhorrence and will become vitarag (void of attachment). When you achieve a state of aguru-laghu (balanced state of the Self ) there will be endless advantage of this science. Whatever I speak is Gnan. The one whose intellect has become samyak right a little, samyak means with fragrance, he can understand this Gnan immediately. Gnan is understood by intellect but Gnan cannot be spoken through intellect. One cannot speak this Vignan—science through intellect. Vignan means it is like chaitanya Gnan that by which life is evident, the Self. It works automatically. The one with a pure heart can understand the Gnani’s language Questioner: Some people cannot May 2008

understand the Gnani’s bhasha language. Dadashri: But how can they understand? One can understand only if moha illusion decreases. As long as the inner confusion due to the illusion, ‘I am Chandulal’ exists, one will not understand. He can understand after moha dissipates. One needs to have merit karma and a pure heart to understand the Gnani’s language. One can recognize and see it right away if the heart is pure. However people’s hearts are filled with ego laden impurities kashaya and therefore they cannot understand. To understand the Gnani’s language, one should have a pure heart. The one with impurities can understand everything else of the relative side, the language of the worldly life. One will attain salvation if he learns ‘our’ words and follows them accordingly. He will attain salvation if he learns even just one word of the Gnani Purush. Otherwise, when will you progress from the third standard to the fourth? Instead of that, Dada will place you in the first year after matriculation. Other people are in the fifth and the sixth standard. One will not pass even the third standard through his own effort. Instead, do what Dada tells you and your problems will be solved. The energy of the speech of the Gnani Purush There is tremendous energy in every word of a Gnani Purush. This energy of word is such that everyone will stand up if I say so. When everyone does what is being asked of them; that is vachanbud. With this vachanbud the sentences become siddha accomplish the intent. The energy of Dada’s speech is extraordinary. What are our words like? They are not words of the scriptures; words in the scriptures are inanimate, whereas ‘our’ words are living. The direct energy of the manifest Self within these words awakens the Self within 7

the listener, without fail. It will awaken the Self! Furthermore, they will not hurt in the least. Not a single word of the Gnani will be fruitless. There is tremendous and extraordinary energy in the Gnani’s speech. The world will leap with awe at every word of the Gnani. Even just one sentence of the Gnani will take you to moksha. Kavi has sung : 'Jagat udaya avatar, deshna tey shrutagnan, Syadvaad parman.'

Gnan-daan, sarvamaanya

When the world is ready to prosper, a Gnani will manifest. Gnani’s speech when heard is the gift of knowledge, which liberates and all accept this knowledge. A Gnani manifests when the time is good for the world. His words (deshna) liberate and represent the knowledge meant to be heard (shrutagnan). A single sentence of His encompasses volumes of scriptures. It is written in the scriptures that one must always speak the truth but people say they are not able to do so. People are looking for scriptures that are applicable to the era of this current time cycle of Kaliyug so that they can get their work done. New scriptures will be written that will prevent the deleterious effect of the current time cycle upon people and take them to moksha. The ‘medicine’ the scriptures preach to us, to speak the truth, to be kind, to keep peace etc., is outdated medicine. Now we will need new medicine. Your intent (bhaav) must be to speak only the truth, and if you make a mistake, you have to tell ‘Chandubhai’ to do pratikraman. ‘Our’ words will break all veils of ignorance; the energy of the Gnani’s speech is such that it gives complete clarification within. There is infinite energy in every word of ‘ours—the Gnani Purush’s’. That is why each 8

and every word grows—blossoms within. The rest of the speeches—of non Gnani spiritual masters—do not grow and blossom within. They have sown such seeds in the spiritual farm for endless lives, and yet not a single word yields any fruit. If a single word of the Gnani Purush is absorbed then it will eradicate all diseases within. Once it has taken hold, it will not leave the owner. This speech has tremendous energy! This is why all the work gets done without reading anything. It happens automatically, does it not? Questioner: Dada, how can one attain vachanbud? Dadashri: Speak as much truth as you understand. There is no problem if do not say anything when you do not understand. It will increase your vachanbud by that much. You should decide, ‘I do not want to speak in a manner that will hurt anyone’ and continue to ask for the energy of vachanbud from ‘Dada’ and you will attain it. There has to be a strong desire on your part and my vachanbud. My vachanbud will remove all your obstacles. You will be tested but you will come through. Misuse (durvyaya) of speech is when one uses it to frighten people, animals, tells lies and employs deceit. This is why the energy of speech deteriorates. Energy of speech can be attained if you speak only the truth and also if you do not insist on the truth. If one lies for selfish purpose the speech and mind will deteriorate. One may well speak the truth but there must be firm intentions for the benefit of others behind it. The energy of the speech should be like that of this ‘Dada’. The secret of the energy of the Gnani’s speech Each and every word of mine has chetan (life) in it. Speech is in the form of a record, it May 2008

is inanimate, but my speech first touches the fully manifested divine (pragat Parmatma) within me, before it comes out. That is why it is living speech that gives life to the non-living (nischetan – prior to Self-realization one is dead to the Self. This living speech awakens and brings to life that which had remained ‘dead’ for countless lives). All that is needed is your intent. If I were to ask a person to jump, he will jump even when there is a tenfoot deep hole. Many people tell me that I am doing shaktipat (transfer of energy). No, it is the energy behind my speech. If someone is depressed, I let him drink through my eyes. The Gnani Purush can awaken energies in any way he wants. The energy of the Gnani’s speech can completely solve all confusion within you. When you sit with me here, the whole world will drift into oblivion; that is called moksha! The Gnani’s Speech is beneficial because the intent is very deep ‘Our’ speech has such an energy that you may think that it is going to cause a loss, but it will not let that happen. ‘Our’ speech has such energy. The reason is that there is such deep and great inner intent in it that it will never hurt anyone at all. Every word has that deep inner intent. Even a wrong word will turn right and work for the benefit of the other. Questioner: You had said that if one were to understand one sentence of yours, his work will be done. Dadashri: If one sentence is swallowed—accepted as it is, then his work is done. That much medicine is there in that one sentence. He will be blessed if only one sentence is swallowed. So drinking it with joy and digesting it, gets the work done. When will the joy arise? The more one understands the essence and the more he understands its worth, the greater will be his joy. Tremendous energy in the Gnani’s speech ‘Our’ energy of words vachanbud and your unflinching determination, if these two multiply then, no one has the power to change it. Such is the energy of our words. What ‘we’ are saying to you is that be unflinchingly firm and never waver. Your decision must be firm that Dada’s Agna is verily the religion and Agna is verily the main thing. The energy of ‘our’ speech works in such a way that it will let you follow-do everything, and yet will destroy all karma. There is tremendous energy in this vachanbud it gets the work—beginning till ultimate liberation— done. If one does not flinch or blink even a fraction then there is no energy, which can move him! If a karma can shake-sway it then how can one call it vachanbud? The Vitarags—the fully enlightened ones who have liberated millions, have given topmost marks and praise to vachanbud and manobud energy of the mind, however they have held dehabud the energy of body beastly. There is no importance with dehabud, there is importance of, and meaning to vachanbud the energy of speech ! From bankruptcy to wealth It is possible to attain anything through the energy of ‘our’ speech. I help you to wash every fault that has happened until now. I help you to get rid of your debt. Is it not good? From now onwards, do not create any new debt again. Since I cleared your debt you had until now, all the troubles are gone, aren’t they? Otherwise, once you create a debt, it will increase more and more. And then with this huge burden one becomes callous and noncaring saying, ‘what does it matter?’ This then leads to bankruptcy and auction of the shop. Really speaking this science is such that ‘we’ cannot say, ‘you do this way or do that’, but this current time cycle of Kaliyug is such. 9

There is no telling what these people will do or where they will end up. He may even take the wrong path after taking this Gnan, and that is why ‘we’ have to speak and there is no problem because there is vachanbud in what I say. He does according to my speech and therefore he has no responsibility of the doer-ship. ‘We’ tell you, ‘do this way’ then you are not liable, and in this there is no liability on ‘us’ either.

of speech which can eradicate sexuality. When he is totally free from all impulses of sexuality in mind, speech and action then only he can purge the sexual passions through his words. The speech of the Gnani Purush is able to purge the sexual impulses and sexuality vishaya. The one who cannot purge sexuality in others is not a Gnani.

The words of the Gnani Purush are such that even a strong man will shit in his pants. But, as long as one has the capacity to absorb them, he is considered worthy of them, and later the change happens. The purging happens without a purgative. My words cleanse everything without a purgative; they purge not the bowels, but the mind. These words purge the ego, they purge vishaya sexual inclinations, and they purge mamata my-ness.

The Gnani Purush will show you whatever ‘disease’ there may be within. He will not show you any other faults (dosh). This is because He wants to cure you of the disease. Do doctors cure a patient’s disease or increase it? Besides, are ‘we’ saying all this for our own goal or benefit? ‘We’ are saying all this especially for you and that too with vitaragata—absolute and complete detachment. The disease will not be eradicated without stern words. What removes this disease? Vitaragata and stern words! The sternness in those words is such that it will break every joint in your body. And at the same time those words are filled with complete vitaragata.

The Gnanvani purges sexuality Questioner: How is it that the sentences of a Gnani Purush can purge the vishaya sexuality? Dadashri: One becomes free from sexuality day by day otherwise one will not accomplish anything in spite of reading the books for a hundred thousand life times. Questioner: Why is it possible that His speech has such an effect? Dadashri: His sentence is very powerful and energizing! Can we not understand how much energy lie in his words, on the mention of the purgative effect? Questioner: How would the Gnani have attained such vachanbud? Dadashri: When one is nirvishayi free from all impulses of sexuality in mind, speech and body, then only the energy of speech is attained, otherwise one cannot find the energy 10

Behold the compassion of the Gnani

Stern but vitarag speech Why are the words of the Gnani stern? It is because he speaks fearlessly whereas the whole world speaks out of fear. One fears a father-God above, or has fear of binding karma. However Gnani Purush does not have any fear at all. The one who binds karma has the fear. The Gnani will tell the world the fact as it is. He will tell it to anyone in the world, the fact, as it is. This is because he does not want anything in this world. Fear is for the one who has the unshakable greed and desire for anything worldly. The Gnani does not want anything in the world then will he feel the fear? He is the emperor-Lord of the universe. The only selfless one in the world You will find my words a little stern, but May 2008

if it is liberation that you seek, then I will have to deliver to you some heavy, well-measured, unyielding words. If you do not want liberation and want to remain in this worldly life, then I will offer you flowers. So only, you must decide what you want. You will never find anyone who will speak such truth and that is because I have no selfinterest. Only those who have nothing to gain can speak the naked truth. Others will flatter you with respectful gestures because of their self-interest. Otherwise, who will stick his hand in this stinking mud? But even if just one human being is helped, he can then help so many others. And when ‘we’ scold anyone, it is with the intention to liberate. Otherwise, who would scold in this way? Who would ruin the mind? This scolding is for the salvation (kalyan) of that person. A father scolds his son to exercise his fatherhood. More than the welfare of the son, he has the intense beggary to be the father. If a husband is scolding his wife, he does it for his beggary of maintaining his superiority as a husband (husband-hood; dhanipanu). But when the Gnani Purush scolds, He does it for the salvation of that person. Such stern speech is unusual and not becoming of ‘us’ who are vitarag absolutely detached, but what can ‘we’ do? The speech flows with a great vitaragata detached state, and absolute compassion to rid of their diseases. Their fault is not there either in this. They have strong desire to attain moksha, but the wrong thing happens because of lack of understanding. Such a strange time has arrived. People are trapped in its sandstorm. One cannot reprimand without purity Who has the authority to reprimand anyone in this world? Only Gnani Purush is May 2008

such who can reprimand everybody. Gnani Purush is not under anybody’s pressure or obligation in this world. There is no one who can influence or bear pressure on the Gnani Purush in this world. It is because the one who does not want any thing in this world, he does not have beggary of any thing, why someone will be able to impress or pressure him. If I want something from you then I will have the uneasiness and pressure that ‘you will not give me what I want’. Therefore, the one who can never be pressured is a Gnani Purush; he will say it as it is. ‘We’ do not want anything in this world from anybody. Yet I am saspruha completely inclined. I am nispruha-saspruha completely disinclined–completely inclined. I am without inclination in matters concerning the non-Self or worldly matters, and I am with full of inclination in matters concerning the Self. I do have inclination spruha towards you but in the matter of the Self, I do not have any other concern. Your pudgal the relative self may be thin or big I do not have any concern. What do I need to do with pudgal the non-self at all? I am bringing about closure of pudgal too. I am also bringing about the closure of that which exists. Besides what do I need to do with your pudgal? Only the words of the one who has no beggary, expectations or desire for any worldly thing will be effective. Otherwise the one with the beggary of respect, fame, money or sex will have ineffective words. It is only when one is completely liberated from all these things that God hands over his authority to such a Gnani Purush. The one who seeks something in return will not have effective speech. The one who does not want anything in return will have very effective speech. Exchange means he has desire 11

to gain something else in return. Here ‘I’ do not get anything in return, do I? My speech is not soft, is it? Do you feel that it is somewhat harsh? Questioner: If it is soft then it is useless. Dadashri: My talk is little hard to take, but it will purge everything within and cure all the disease. There is nothing but sheer disease within! If you go to some saint purush then he will welcome you, ‘welcome brother, welcome sir, welcome welcome.’ He will keep on flattering you for his selfish interest. Hey, why so much flattery and buttering? And thus again, he turns him on to the wrong path. Hey you, if you show him a straight path then he can look for a way further on. But he will keep on flattering. Do you like someone praising you or not? If you really want to attain moksha you will have to listen to ‘our’ harsh words. The disease from infinite life times has filled from the navel all the way up to the throat, now I will need to do operation and cure that disease by pulling with a pair of tongs. Therefore speak up from the start, I will not be able to leave operation half way once I put a pair of tongs inside, it will not work if you scream ‘oh, oh’ afterwards. So what do you want, moksha or the splendor of worldly life? Whatever you want, I am ready to give it to you. Questioner: We definitely want moksha. Dadashri: Then you will need to digest these words of ‘ours’. You will need to understand. Oneness with an opponent too I met a big officer yet I told him off, the truth. The reason is that I did not want anything from him. My approach to him was, if you want to listen the truth then listen and afterwards if you want to curse, go ahead and do it. If you 12

get mad then you can go ahead and hurl an abuse. But you listen at least once. What are we to do if he loses it—and becomes angry? Even if he is an opponent, I will not feel that he is separate from me. I will feel the oneness and he may experience separation but I will have oneness with him. If I experience separation with the opponent then I will have negative feeling, dislike towards him. I do not have dislike or negative feelings. At the time, stern words will come out from my mouth but I will not experience separateness. The words that come out is a relative thing, but I will have vitaragata absolutely unaffected state inside. The heat – energy of Dada There is so much grace on this Dada that no one can speak in his presence at all. Even if I were to use abusive words, he will not be able to talk back. So what a grace Dada has brought with him! What a splendor he has! Otherwise if you were to insult an opposing person, it will create a trouble. He will call the police and say, ‘he insulted me.’ Hey, ‘who are you that we bother to insult? Where do you exist? For me what is respect and what is insult? When you get a tail; jump as much is convenient to you!’ If we say like this then he will feel ashamed. Who can speak? Why are you not getting in to fight, bapji? No one can be provoked into a fight in front of vitarag speech. Yes, no matter how harshly I speak, even then it is a vitarag speech! If you try to speak some harsh words then he will call the police and ask him to arrest you. Questioner: No one will go up against vitarag speech. Dadashri: No one would say anything even if I were to abuse him verbally. See, how many people were sitting, was I not speaking in May 2008

front of him? But do you think people would have considered my fault? ‘What is this that Dada spoke? How can he speak like this?’ Would anyone feel that? Questioner: No, nobody. Dadashri: These words being spoken will create a lot of force. It will bite you at night. Besides these words are with vitaragata—there is no speaker. One will not feel bad; it will not make one angry. If you tell someone that ‘you have no sense’ then he will not speak with you for fifteen years. That is why vitaragata is to be brought in. You cannot say anything to anyone. And if you tell him then he will not listen to you. You can tell him with vitaragata. Vitarag speech means it is acceptable to even your opponent. That much is the energy of speech vachanbud! If it is acceptable to even your opponent then only a person will change otherwise he will not turn, will he? It is difficult to change a person. It is very difficult to bring a change in prakruti the innate nature of one’s relative self. Questioner: But the one who is new and comes here, may feel it rather harsh. The one who has not accepted this Dada’s Gnan yet and feels little uncomfortable here Dada, he will feel that Dada is very strict. Dadashri: Oh, he will think I am very strict! If he is sitting here aimlessly, even then he will feel the heat. By telling him that he is stupid, his stupidity left Once it happened. I told someone, ‘you are stupid.’ He later told me, that he had changed tremendously, and wanted me to say something more along this lines. I told him that I could not do that. Greed had taken hold of him. After his stupidity left, do I need to do May 2008

other things or not? And he was asking me to say something else. Do I have time for that? That word came out just because of his merit karma punya. Otherwise it will not come out. How is it possible for me to speak such insulting words? The stern words that come out from the Gnani’s speech will not cause any indigestion. Rebuke without contempt Questioner: Dada, I feel that your word ‘mooah’ (special exclamation used by Dadashri to shake up the listener), is very meaningful. Dadashri: I keep using the word ‘mooah’, what do I mean by it? Mooah—the one who is dying—is a very profound word. There is mild rebuke in it but no contempt. Even though I speak a rural dialect, it is very energizing. Each sentence incites one to start thinking. Because this speech comes from the heart of the Gnani, it is the direct living Saraswati (Goddess of Knowledge). Speech unfolds according to vyavahar between individuals With whatever vyavahar—back and forth interaction through thoughts, speech and action—the account was created or wound in the past life, with such a vyavahar it will unfold (unwind) in this life. When you ask me, “Dada why do you not tell me off when I make mistakes?”, ‘we’ will tell you, “You have not brought such a vyavahar with us. ‘We’ have already alerted you and cautioned you based on whatever extra vyavahar you had brought with you. You did not bring any more vyavahar than that.” Gnani Purush never has harsh speech and if His speech comes out harshly for others, ‘we’ do not like it. And despite this if ‘we’ ever speak harshly, ‘we’ immediately realize that such is the vyavahar ‘we’ have brought with that person. The words that come out are in accordance with the vyavahar of 13

the person one is dealing with. The speech of the Gnani Purush is nimit evidentiary instrument, dependent. The speech of the vitarag, or the Gnani who has no ambitions, no desires, no raag-dwesh, is nimit dependent. The speech of the Gnani can never be hurtful to others. The Gnani Purush does not have the time to insult anyone. Nevertheless, someone with tremendous punyas will have the rare occasion to be scolded by the Gnani. This person’s vyavahar is such that in order to rid him of his ‘disease’, the Gnani has to speak to him in a harsh manner. Otherwise, why would ‘we’ do so? The Gnani gives liberation in just one hour, why would he have a reason to insult anyone? But these harsh words come forth in order to rid the other person of all his ‘diseases’. What does Kavi say? ‘The one whom Dada calls ‘mooah’ (mortal)! becomes ajar amar (ageless and immortal). When dada ‘tells off’ someone by referring to him as a ‘mooah’, it will destroy many of his sins. Dada’s insult, on the contrary, is a blessing for him.’ Someone may ask, ‘Why is Dada speaking harshly with this man?’ What can Dada do when the man has brought such a vyavahar? Some people are worthless and yet Dada will not raise his voice at them. Does that not tell you how wonderful a vyavahar they have brought? Those who have brought harsh vyavahar with them will experience harsh words from ‘us’. Stern words, through vitaragata Questioner: What kind of speech comes out when chakravarti an emperor goes to Lord Tirthankara? Will the pride maan of the emperor king dissolve? Dadashri: Yes, his ego will dissolve. The speech of the vitarag Lord is so magnificent. 14

How can we say anything about the speech of vitarag! Questioner: Many people with huge ego-pride find their pride melting in front of Dada. Dadashri: Yes, everybody’s pride will melt here. Questioner: That man was here. At first he said he will not touch to your feet, but finally he did and then left. Dadashri: He touched the feet and furthermore he left after giving a glorious tribute saying, ‘dwandvatita—beyond the dualities’. This (speech) taped record can break your joints. Many times very energizing words come forth and the diseases of people are cured immediately too. One word is able to cure many kinds of diseases. Pratikraman after stern scolding Questioner: Dada, you had reprimanded that big businessman over there. At that time the speech was very stern, what do you have to do for that? Dadashri: ‘We’ have to do pratikraman—apology coupled with the remorse of any wrongdoing for that. It will not work without pratikraman. We do not have such authority. Questioner: Dada, when a Gnani Purush is rebuking someone, is pratikraman going on at the same time (simultaneously)? Dadashri: No, it cannot be done. Pratikraman can occur after a few minutes. If pratikraman occurred simultaneously then the scolding will stop; there would be no scolding. Doing pratikraman will not let me proceed further. On the contrary it will prevent me from achieving my goal (of purging his disease), I May 2008

would not allow that to happen before I have completed my task of the purging.

constantly in the state of bliss, constantly in the state of the Self, need to speak such stern words? Despite being a Gnani, I have to say this: ‘Beware! Keep studying.’ You can tell people, ‘I am studying the scriptures and let us all study together.’ But you must not preach in the presence of kashayas.

If a person were to create trouble in this whole satsang then I will say, ‘hey you unworthy fellow, you will not have authority over here.’ ‘We’ would speak with such vitaragata to stop harassment in satsang. Nevertheless the turmoil will arise within, ‘he is a worthless, he is a very bad person, he is like this and like that.’ So ‘we’ will say that, ‘he is a helpful one—helpful for awareness’, then everything will calm down. We said before that, if one becomes Chandulal and insults someone then ‘he – the non-self ego’ will prefer that, and those dogs—the jada bhaav, the wrong beliefs—will keep barking (jada bhaav—the belief of one’s existence in the matter—the non-Self, ‘I am eating, I am the doer.’). It is because all different kinds of bhaavs exist inside. The whole world is puzzled in these jada bhaavs. One is chetan the Self and is caught up in the puzzles of the non-Self, in jada bhaav wrong belief ‘I am Chandulal, I am the doer’ in the world. ‘We’ are making you free from that jada bhaav.

Currently all preachers carry a tremendous liability. But people do not know this or understand this and that is why they give sermons. You should check and test yourself to see whether you are an updeshak (a preacher). An updeshak should be free from artadhyan and raudradhyan (adverse internal meditation). It does not matter if one has not attained shukladhyan (the meditation as the Self) because his dharmadhyan (virtuous meditation, a state void of artadhyan and raudradhyan) is increasing. However, if he continues to experience artadhyan and raudradhyan, then the liability is his. The Lord has said that as long as there is anger, pride, deceit and greed within; do not preach to anyone.

Heed the Gnani’s warning about preaching

The speech flows without prior thoughts

This is the path of the vitarag Lords (the omniscient One, free from attachment). This path has many dangers for the preacher. To utter even a single word, carries tremendous liability.

The sentences that flow are filled with great responsibilities. No one can refute the sentences that are being uttered. No words go to waste; it is scriptures in the making. Are these words being spoken after a lot of thought?

This is why I say, you simply have the right to do swadhyaya (study of the Self); you do not have the right to give updesh (preach). If in spite of this you preach, then because you preach in the presence of kashayas within, you will go to hell. The one who listens to you will not go to hell. Despite being a Gnani, I have to speak sternly in this way. There is tremendous compassion behind what I am saying. What reason does a Gnani have to be stern? For which reason does the one who is

One woman says, ‘whatever this Dada speaks, he thinks too much before he speaks.’ Then I said to her, ‘you are the only one I found who knows how to appreciate my speech (!). I have not found any one else.’ She thought in her mind that ‘how is it possible to speak so promptly and without contradiction? So speech cannot come forth without prior thinking.’ Then I said, ‘I took a note of your content. However, really I do not think at all! I speak without thinking.’ Then she says, ‘oh, can such thing

happen in the world? You speak so beautifully, without any error! You do think a lot and then you are speaking.’ I said, ‘no, such speech comes forth because I do not think at all before I speak. I do not have to think. A person who thinks before he speaks would be confused all the time.’ Was I speaking this after thinking? No this was a taped record that is playing. If I speak after thinking then instead of ‘I wanted to do’, I would speak something similar carrying a different meaning, and again I would need to change the sentence, can you understand this? Thoughts have already occurred previously. In the past life, the karmic accounts and thoughts all happened before the current arrangement that is unfolding precisely. The eternal nature of the speech of The Gnani Purush Our Gnani’s experiments are such that ‘we’ ‘see’ every kriya-activity. That is why I call this speech, a record! As this record plays, I observe what is playing and what is not playing. The responsibility for each and every sentence spoken is on ‘us’. My sentences are eternally true. That is why they are being recorded on tapes and that is why books have been compiled and published from them. The speech has come forth after ‘seeing’ and ‘experiencing’, and that is why it liberates human beings. ‘We’ are ready to explain every word, which was spoken twenty years ago. ‘We’ carry the responsibility. Even then ‘we’ do not have kevalgnan absolute knowledge. ‘Our ’ kevalgnan is short by four degrees. Many scientists and critical thinkers asked me, ‘how do you speak all this?’ I said, ‘I speak as I see it. I do not speak from what I have read in a book. I am not giving answers from the book. Not even a word that I utter is 16

from a book.’ My speech is not based on any book. This is a fact, this is correct. Whatever I am saying has never been heard before. The Gnan is from the past and has remained exactly the same. There is no difference in the light it gives. The difference is only in the way the reality is explained. One can understand this talk exactly, that this is how the strategy of the world is. Wonder of Dadavani Questioner: Yes, that is right. But Dada some times exact words come out in your speech. Exact words come forth, which are written in the Gita or the Bhagwat. Dadashri: Yes, exact words come out. Questioner: At that time I think that when did you go to read this? I would not believe if someone were to tell me that Dada had read this. Dadashri: No, no, not like this. That is right. This speech does not exist in books that have been read before. This speech is the correct speech. Questioner: No not like that. The way your background is, in your old times, at that time this thing did not exist at all, not a chance. Dadashri: No, it has arisen without doing anything. It is possible to publish hundreds of thousands of books from this speech. Questioner: That is right. It is swayambhu self-existent. I saw that way. It takes minimum four hours to complete the whole Gnan Vidhi. We notice that for that long four hours other disturbance does not arise at the age of seventy-six whether it is winter, monsoon or summer season. Dadashri: That is a remarkable thing! Then only people can attain salvation. Otherwise salvation cannot occur. May 2008

Questioner: And your speech is experiential. So at what level does this speech touch the receiver-listener? Dadashri: Those who have taken our Gnan will have a direct adjustment for sure and the other person (the one who has not taken Gnan ) will also feel peace and calm, he will think that this talk is correct. The reason is that he has a soul too. Questioner: Does it awaken one after touching the very root, the very core? Dadashri: It will not remain without touching. That is why even without taking Gnan people take books with them. They proclaim ‘so wonderful, so wonderful’. What are you talking! That means the speech has touched him. Without this how can he say that this is so wonderful?

speech. This is a practical speech. That other speech says, ‘do this way’, that is gnan. It shows something else through gnan. And what I have experienced that is what I am telling you. Therefore, you will experience this. This is called anubhuti experience. He comes down to our level to explain the Gnan to us Questioner: Even after deep and minute thinking we are not able to grasp the totality of the Gnan that Dada has attained.

Questioner: True, Dada. I had that experience myself too.

Dadashri: You would not be able to do so; it is of a very high level. I have to come down to a lower level in order to talk to you about it. This Gnan is of such a high level that I have to bring it down to a lower level for people to understand it, but even then people are not able to understand it completely. People will not understand a word of what I say if I talked about Gnan at the higher level.

Dadashri: Yes, that is right. You people are the writers, literary people. You do get the experience, then what experience other people would be having? On the contrary the one who has lack of understanding will experience more, since he has no interference—intellectual doubts!

Questioner: Dada when I first came to you I learned that in order to explain things, you come down to the level of the person you are addressing whereas elsewhere people have to rise to the level of the Gnani if they want to understand anything.

Questioner: Yes, yes, right. We would create interference inside.

Dadashri: Yes, I have to come down to their level otherwise I will not succeed. They will not be able to understand me. I have to apply a ‘counter pulley’ and come down to their level.

Dadashri: Yes, you would. Those people are ignorant, so they will not create interference at all. He will feel peace and calm immediately. However you found out based on your interference that, ‘you have experience like this!’ Then how much truth will be in that matter? All this is unique and original. Everything is pure. Questioner: This is not a routine tradition. Dadashri: No, no. Every word of ‘our’ will take you moksha. This is an experiential May 2008

Solutions unfolded all the way to Kevalgnan Questioner: Dada, when we ask you questions, your answers are exact and instant, but they are not from any scriptures. So where do these answers come from? Dadashri: When I answer your questions, I do not think or read anything. I say what I see in kevalgnan absolute knowledge. 17

What you hear and see is the light of kevalgnan. All this speech is through kevalgnan. There are only few gneya (object to be known) of kevalgnan that I do not see— know. This is kevalgnan of dushamkaal—the time of strife. Solutions that address the state starting from ignorance all the way to kevalgnan have come up here; they can never be found in any scriptures; this is unprecedented. These talks are very subtle indeed. These are not talks at a gross level. These talks have surpassed the gross (sthool), subtle (sookshma), subtler (sookshmatar) levels and is the talk of the subtlest (sookshmatam) level. Therefore, get your work done. The one who has heard this directly is bound to have the words grow from within. Not a single word is going to go to waste. One will absorb them according to his ability and capacity to digest them. This speech is itself kevalgnan. Where the intellect comes to an end; matignan (knowledge attained through sense perceptions and the mind) comes to an end; that is where stands the kevalgnan. The light which has been produced, is verily from kevalgnan. Where there is Atmagnan there is silence of the sages This ‘record’ of ours (the speech of Dadashri) keeps playing all day long, but even then I am silent. Our speech has no other intent except for the salvation of the other person (atmartha). Such a silence is one of a muni. Whereas, these other munis while being silent are filled with inner conflicts. How can they be called munis? I am a ‘mahamuni’ (the great silent one). I am absolutely silent. This is the silence of the highest order (parmarth, for the Self). The speech for the Self is silence Questioner: Everyone believes that 18

silence is golden. And to speak is to dissipate energy. Dadashri: This 79 th year of life is starting and yet I speak for 10 hours a day. On the Diwali Day I speak even longer, and yet this is silence. Do you attempt to control the speech ever? Questioner: So with the excess speaking, one becomes a fraction of the whole. Dadashri: Do you know what the experts of scriptures have said regarding speech? They have said that all speech that has been said for the Self is silence. And the world defines silence differently. As long as any signal of communication continues, it is not silence, says the Lord. They do communicate through signals. That is not silence. Dada speaks all day and yet he is silent. Why? This is because there is no worldly aim in these talks. There are worldly talks but the aim is not of the world, but it is of the Self (atma lakshi). If there is any worldly talk, it is ultimately for the aim of salvation of the other and therefore it is silence. The Lord has said that this speech, which is constantly flowing all day, is silence, saiyam control over speech. Silence even when speaking. The Lord has said that where there is no worldly aim in speech, it is only about the Soul and Supreme Soul, it is silence. The worldly speech is called speech. How wise is the Lord. All that I say is the speech of silence. If one has taken the vow of silence, for a worldly aim, then even when there is silence, it is not silence (amaun). To speak for the Self, even all day long, is silence, total silence. Why have the writers of scriptures called this silence? This is because there is no effect on the body when one speaks exclusively for and of the Self. All this day long talking of mine, if it were to have any effect on the body, it would have finished me. May 2008

Beneficial to the self and others Questioner: In talks of the Self if one is present for even 48 minutes, he becomes light as a flower. Dadashri: In worldly speech and talks, a lot of energy is wasted and discharged. And this talk of, and for the Self, does not waste or discharge any energy and does not affect the body in any way. This is because there is no selfish intent in this. The speech is beneficial to the Self (swa, here) and others around (par). At the feet of the Gnani all speech and talk is useful for all. Such speech helps the Self and the relative self (Chandulal). Gnanvani in the form of the ultimate essence of knowledge Questioner: I have a question that some people give religious discourses, they preach, and if they preach on the topic related to the Soul and you talk about Atma—the Self too. So what is the difference between their preaching and your talks? Dadashri: ‘Ours’ is the message of experience—experience as the Self. This updesh spiritual message is kriyakari brings results. What you hear will come to fruition. The discourse and message of any one else (non- Gnani) will not come to fruition—work from within. The Lord has qualified this as kriyakari Gnan—knowledge that works from within. The Lord has also said that that knowledge which does not bring results is shushka gnan. The religious discourse-lecture is called a religion. The speech of a saint purush is called a marma deep meaning of dharma religion and when one attains hundred percent deep meaning of dharma then gnanark absolute essence of knowledge starts to rise. Whereas this ours is the absolute essence of knowledge gnanark. May 2008

Farther than this, nothing more remains to be known. The speech that I ‘speak’ is of a very peak level. This fact is of very high level. If people standing down at a lower level ask me a question about what is up there and if I want to give them information then they will not understand if I just speak from up there so I have to come down to a lower level in order to talk to them. So I have to talk to them in their language for them to understand. Gnanvani is verily the foundation Questioner: I have been so very gratefully impressed that this is the only such a Gnani Purush whose every sentence has a solid foundation. Those who had become saints in the past and those who exist now, there is no base any where in the sentences of their speech. Dadashri: In current times, there is no base in any speech at any place. He himself is support less. I would tell him that he himself is without any support. So how can his speech have any base? If he were to ask me how is he without support, then I would explain to him. What support he has? If you were to slap him or assault him then his reaction will show that he has reached the shore (!). After then will he stay without exploding or will you need to light with a matchstick? Questioner: continuously.

Wonderful speech of this current time cycle Questioner: When you are speaking at that time such a wonderful sentences come forth, that we just marvel and continue seeing the face of the Gnani… Dadashri: At that time you should do the darshan devotional viewing. You should do like this (by folding two hands) it is the absolute 19

state. When such sentence comes forth, at that time ‘we’ remain as gnata-drashta—knowerseer. The state may shift a little after the speech is out, but you should do the darshan. Compared to the darshan of the absolute state, this other is a little less. That is why the satsang now taking place is extraordinary like before because all is seen with purity. This purity gets clouded whenever there is any discussion about worldly matters and so you do not get the full benefit from it. I do not loose my own bliss but those around me do not get the full benefit. If you want people to get full benefit of this Gnan, you have to keep me pure—less involved in relative matters. Keep ‘us’ distant and separate from worldly matters. Nature took care of this for me by keeping me away from home when I fractured my leg. Even Hiraba told me, ‘You should stay wherever your health is best served.’ Then flow the words of the ultimate (absolute) speech. The speech that comes out is of the highest order. The speech that has come out so far has been extraordinary. Each sentence has been such that it will bring salvation to so many. One can never compare this speech Questioner: Dada, having experienced your compassion we feel that we need to have ananyapanu exclusive devotion to You only. Dadashri: Exclusive means when you feel this is the only absolute truth (eternalSelf) then you should get safely all the way through and get into the very depth of it. You should not compare with others. It is not easy to compare. One man came here with pure gold jewelry, another person came with rolled-gold jewelry and they say both are similar. So the 20

one who really knows the difference what will he say? Both will look alike, you can experience the same, but you cannot gain anything. And you cannot evaluate to that extent. Human beings do not have that ability. Who has the capacity and ability to compare and evaluate this Dada’s speech? At least find one person who has this energy. This is Saraswati (Goddess of speech). This speech here (Dada’s speech) is pratyaksh direct Saraswati. How can one evaluate or compare this speech with anything? I am saying all this my self. This speech is not mine. This speech is a taped record. I say this speech is true Saraswati. But you cannot compare even one sentence of anybody with this speech. You cannot find anything in the world to come close to it. This is a magnificent speech. You should not judge even one word here. The very effort of attempting to judge will get your intellect measured. To say, ‘this is just like that’, is the measurement and judgment. However, words are similar. Are we going to get words from other place? But every word of ‘ours’ has life (Chetan – the Self) in it. Chetan words do not exist in the world. This word has the energy of turning the nischetan into chetan i.e. the relative self into the real Self. So you should not compare one word of this with anybody. Therefore, do not compare. However, until one understands the difference between the rolled-gold and the pure gold, we cannot fight with him, can we? Akram Gnani – the living Upanishad Questioner: I have read the scriptures of Upanishad. I have also read the commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita. I have also read the Sankhya philosophy of Kapil Muni. However after attending these satsangs of Dadashri, I am finding some places where these scriptures have errors. This is because the May 2008

analysis of the scripture is presented through the medium of one’s intellect and individual view. Dadashri: It is all written according to ones individual intellect. This here, to listen to the fresh speech of the Gnani Purush constitutes new scriptures. I am considered the talking Upanishad (sacred Hindu text); the living Upanishad. The other is a book. So which is the true Upanishad? The one that is living is the true Upanishad. If you were to accept my words as true, then it will be of tremendous benefit to you. The others are merely words that have been written through the ego whereas these are words void of the ego. When the Gnani is present, one must not refer to or take the support of any scripture. The experts of scriptures (Shasta purush) have written the scriptures. When the Gnani is not around, then they may be used. There is no Gnan in the scriptures. The scriptures are gross. What is a word? A word is a gross thing. There is no subtle, no subtler or subtlest meaning in the scripture. The scripture is only gross food. Therefore, when the Gnani is present, these words are of no use. Be it the four Vedas of the Hindus or the four Anuyogas of the Jains, they are not of any use. The Gnani is superior to all these Vedas and Anuyogas. Each and every word of the Gnani is exact. The speech of the Gnani is natural (sahaj), is also called deshna (the speech that liberates) and is considered the living goddess of speech (pratyaksh Saraswati). Where Saraswati exists there is no error. That is why I do not mention any scriptures. Questioner: When the original is available what is the need to use a substitute? Dadashri: Yes. On the contrary we are doing damage. Therefore when The Gnani May 2008

Purush is around the books are of no use. There is no book which will be of any use in front of the Gnani. The Gnani Purush’s speech is for the purpose of improving the scriptures. Otherwise the original writers of these scriptures say, ‘I am saying what the all knowing One (sarvagnya) has said.’ But this will not work. To absorb (dharan) what the all knowing One has said once, is difficult. Further to understand it is even more difficult. So how would then the writer have understood anything? A man asked me whether one could compare the scripture of Manu-smruti with the Gnani’s words. I asked him if he knew how to read because Manu-smruti means, ‘Manu’s memory;’ whatever Manu remembered was given in his book. What were the contents of the book? Only what Manu remembered. It is to be used as ‘food’ only during a time of famine, when no other food is available, when a Gnani Purush is not around. Questioner: Here Dada, here you gave us all the solutions. Dadashri: When the Gnani Purush is there, all the scriptures should be corrected. Now someone comes to me and wants me to tell the meaning of scriptures! What can be done! If one tells me, ‘explain this,’ I will say that this is a mistake on your part. The scriptures have been written by the experts on scriptures and here The Gnani Purush is above all writers of scriptures. The Gnani Purush is lower than a tirthankara (the fully enlightened One) but above the writers of the scriptures. So there is a possibility of making an error in this. Even then it is very helpful for other people. The reason is that all those are scholars. When the direct light of the Sun is available, what is the need to light a candle? When there is no direct sunlight, the candle is necessary. 21

Questioner: Dada, today this speech of Yours has the energy to eradicate any insistence of any one of us who is stuck on any scripture. Dadashri: What? Questioner: This is because some of us have the tendency to repeatedly go back to referring the scriptures. Dadashri: Yes. That is why I had to tell you all this. When? When I know that this is going on (dependence on scriptures in the presence of the Gnani). Otherwise to insult the scripture is a fault. To insult a book is to insult the knowledge of the scripture (shruta gnan) and it is a fault. At a certain critical time, if I do not commit this fault then you would have gone a long time on the wrong path. That is why I have said that it is not necessary to read a single sentence of scriptures. However, if you are habituated to it, read it. Where is the need to read anything after meeting the Gnani Purush? All the scriptures, all the Vedas and all the Upanishads, all are encompassed in these five Agnas. Is this talk understandable? Questioner: Yes all is contained within the five Agnas. Dadashri: Otherwise, would I tell you not to read? Such beautiful words, and magnificent sentences, and speech! But why do you need to bother with it? All that has been deeply discussed and the end has been attained. If you have sucked of all the juice, what is left? If you drunk it what is left? Great munis like Kapil and others were very pure. I have read the scriptures. Kapil muni has clearly written, ‘I am saying what the all knowing One has said.’ And then he became free from any responsibility. ‘I am merely bringing the message.’ He was a very elevated soul, yet he does not take any responsibility. 22

Errors in this path, is a sure way to end up in hell. These words are not to be teased or messed with. Even I remain silent. What can be done? If you take wrong path after meeting me, I do not like it. I prefer to remain silent in these critical matters. Even I have to do pratikraman vidhi for 15 minutes for assaulting scriptures. The attacks done, call for the vidhi of pratikraman. I commit the fault to save you from going on the wrong path. The pure speech without any contamination Do you understand this discussion? I do not insist that what I say is correct. If you find it to be so, then accept it. I do not intend to make every discussion correct. If it suits you, then you should accept it and if you do not, it will not bother me. In any event, I have to tell the truth. Otherwise, people have just allowed all misrepresentations to continue. Questioner: But that is their viewpoint, is it not? Dadashri: Yes, that is true, but I must disclose this truth because there are people out there who are trying to conceal it. And nobody has the courage to speak this truth out loud. Do you now know that all this is wrong? Questioner: Yes, Dada. Dadashri: You should have knowledge of what is untrue. One man said to me, ‘I can now tell if something is untrue.’ That is what I wanted. Otherwise, uncertainty and doubts will remain; one may feel, ‘There is some truth here and some truth there.’ As long as this happens, you will not get the full taste of either one. Through your gnan (knowledge), you should be able to tell if something is untrue, then everything will work out fine. It is like this: if no one says anything, May 2008

people will carry on as is. A Gnani Purush, like me, states the facts clearly; I can speak frankly and I can say things exactly as they are.

True religion is one where there is no disagreement and poisonous effects. True religion has amrut the nectar of the eternal. Dispute or disagreement is poison.

Aptavani : The speech that works from within

This Aptavani for the purpose of Jagat Kalyan

Questioner: When we read your Aptavani, it is so effective, it brings such good results that we feel like reading it continuously.

This speech will continue to be helpful for eighteen thousand years, as long as the reign of Lord Mahavir lasts, it will be there.

Dadashri: These words are of the Gnani Purush and they are fresh. The phases—of the speech—are recent and therefore during the reading as you read it your phases change and you experience anand bliss. Someone may even become enlightened samkit just through the reading! This is because this speech is the speech of the vitarag. There is no solution for moksha without speech that is vitarag—without attachment or abhorrence.

The thousands of copies of Aptavanis that have been published will grow and blossom in the next fifty to one hundred years. At that time India will be a place of grandeur and prosperity. The words in these books will lead to something majestic and magnificent. As people become familiar with these books, they will come to understand how priceless they are.

The speech of the Lord was vitarag without attachment and abhorrence and its effect is still going on, even after 2500 years. Therefore, even the speech of the Gnani Purush is effective; it will be for at least two to four generations for sure. Questioner: We see Dada while reading Aptavani! Dadashri: Yes…. ‘You will see Dada’. You will see Dada exactly. It is possible to see Dada whenever you desire and this results in Your benefit. Questioner: I have read all parts of the Aptavani, nowhere did I see anyone’s criticism or refutation in the entire book. Dadashri: Self-realized beings do not oppose anyone. They do not begin or destroy anything. Why create and destroy? Why would I oppose anything? To oppose is an ego of a kind; it is a mad ego. May 2008

Questioner: There are a lot of people who have inner experiences while reading the Aptavani—the speech of the One who is eternally trusted. Are those experiences because of the presence of the Gnani Purush? And are people going to have the same experiences after You have departed? Dadashri: The experiences will happen even after I am gone, for sure. The gnan— knowledge, which is already out there, is merely just that; it is Kramic knowledge. There is no chetan—life in the Kramic knowledge, whereas this Gnan is a science (vignan) and it is alive and that is why there is experience in it. When one reads these books he can ‘see’ Dada, he can hear Dada speaking and then he experiences the Gnan. Questioner: Even those who have not taken this Gnan have the experience after reading the Aptavani. Dadashri: Yes, even then they will have the experience. The other is the knowledge of 23

the Kramic path. It is not a science and that is why they do not get the experience. That knowledge would have to be ‘done’ – in the Kramic path one has to ‘do’ everything whereas in this Akram path one only has to understand. If a person understands the book, he will attain the experience.

telling you that the words within are not meant to give you permanent peace. Whatever you read in the Aptavani, realize and understand its meaning and make your way to the main Purush, the Gnani. Ask the Gnani whatever you want. I am ready to give anyone whatever he or she wants in this world.

These are the words of the Gnani Purush, it is the energy of his speech and his intentions behind his speech that works. Also his compassion behind his words gives results. Behind these words is my compassion! What compassion! There is nothing to give or take there. I do not want any respect. I do not want any emotional gratification. I do not want anything worldly from you. So then what is the intention? It is purely from the intent of compassion.

This is the talk of the ultimate science

Questioner: Compassion would be without any effort, would it not? Dadashri: Yes, effortless. That is why it will become very beneficial to him. A lot has come out in the open about the nature of this world, let all the facts come out. For once let as much speech come out, as it will; let it completely come out. People will continue to ask questions and the speech will continue to come out. Do you understand? Everything that comes out everyday will be published one day. People will then analyze it and extract and establish the Gnan—total eternal liberating knowledge within. Questioner: When I read Dada’s Aptavani, I feel very much at peace and am able to stay in my Gnan but after I leave the book aside, once again everything becomes clouded. Dadashri: The words in the Aptavani are just sthool physical words. You feel peace when you read them. The book however, is 24

Questioner: This is very beautiful talk. The speech that comes forth from you, it seems as if it is the talk of the ultimate science of keeping the separation (between the self and the non-Self). Dadashri: Yes, it is the ultimate science. Questioner: The location of ego— ahamkar (‘I am Chandulal’ egoism ‘I am the doer’), its origin, how to create separation, what is the role of pragnya—the direct light of the Self, and now in addition to this Dada keeps giving more clarification. Dadashri: Have you understood? Questioner: Yes Dada, you are giving very clear clarification. Dada, if we do not understand now then nobody is as stupid as us in the world. Dadashri: No. Later on you will not find this at all! If this gem is lost in such a big ocean then you will not find it again. These words are the very same, but this is the ultimate talk! This systematic method is not possible to contain in only one sentence. And I am telling you exactly the way I have understood. I am talking to you from my vision sitting at ease. And I am telling you to understand that. I am telling you that which I have seen.
