At the river, pool, or baptistery, we let ourselves be completely immersed in the water. When we are raised out of the water, we are symbolically resurrected—raised to our new life. The binary of the artificial and natural in terms of the evolution of technologies seem to no longer be app(t). The cross functionality, the flow of use, the differing mechanisms in practice are now all engulfing. There is a sense of submission and submersion to the cascade of the technological devices being administered to us. Imagine this movement, this vortex, this percolation, this of technology; and information as a stream which was gently flowing from the Holborn fountain in 1864. It was the first public water fountain introduced under the new laws for safe, public drinking water. To quench the thirst of the masses. Check ur phone, 2 missed calls and a text. It was advertised as having liquid crystal display. The public fountain set up for the need of the people. Within the space of 2 years over 80 other public fountains were introduced around the city. There was cleansing in the streets. The cholera epidemic is behind us, however in the later half of the 19th Century these fountains gradually ceased to be sources of drinking water and their water sources diverted. The use of aqueducts, artesian wells and steam pumps supplied drinking water directly to homes. Fountains became public monuments in city squares and parks, honoring national heroes and events. An eruption of spectacle. The initial functionality replaced by the spectacular. The community now held by diverted change. Our needs change and continuously fluctuate. What is our new lord savior ? We must drink from the cup of trust, from the fountain of knowledge. 5 mg of gold dust The monument as participatory. Water is a place for cleansing, for purity. The only escape from technology is to be submerged. The only escape from technology is to be drenched.
