CURRICULUM VITAE DANIELA MELE

DANIELA MELE Architectural Designer

PRO F I L E I am a newly graduated student awarded my Master’s degree in Architecture with high honors at POLYTECHNIC SCHOOL OF MILAN. I also studied at the UTL in Lisbon during my bachelor. Driven by a constant desire to learn and improve, after enrolled in Master of science I have had my 2nd internship abroad, in Amsterdam. Here I interfaced for the 1st time with the ARCHITECTING INTERACTIONS VISION, thanks to the collaboration with AKKA Architects. I learned how to develop a STRATEGIC VISION, both on architecture and urbanism, and I increased my interest in designing CONTEXTS for innovation and for people to be used. Thanks to the knowledge acquired, I showed a propensity for SERVICE and DESIGN THINKING in architecture, while the school and the experiences with different languages and cultures have developed also my passion for SOCIAL ISSUES and HUMAN CAUSES and have increased my interest about how cities and architecture shape our behaviour. So I decided to concern my thesis on a relevant project of PUBLIC SPACES to discourage the school dispersion in the city where I live, Milan. During the research analysis, I also interfaced directly with sociologists and educators, a new experience for me which def initely increased my skills and my passion.

FALSE SQUARES The new market configuration and the urban garden

DANIELA MELE RAFFAELLA PARINI

The project wants to connect two parts of the cities, separated by the empty space of the ex-industrial area. The rehabilitation of this area combines the project of residential units for the private life of the citizens with the improvement of public spaces: - off ices for new workplaces - the re-use of the ancient fruit and vegetables market in relation with the new greenhouses - the huge green park in order to facilitate the prevalent f lows of people and the connection between residentials, off ices, and market. Our project focused on the market. It represents an indoor square, and its ref lection outside makes up the outdoor square. The two plazas follow the same rules construction and are made on the same internal module. Despite their likeness, in the end, one is the opposite of the other. Project teachers: P. Galliani, C. Gasparini, A. Colombo Team members: G. Caiti, G. Federico, D. Mele, G. Martini, R. Rota, F. Viganò

LIVING|FRAMEWORK Steel City - Skyscrapers competition

DANIELA MELE P R OJ E C T B Y A K KA A R C H I T E C TS

Living frame|work is a collection of skyscrapers designed to provide improved life conditions in urban environments, while preserving - and enhancing - the socio-economic dynamics of the local context, in Dharavi (Mumbai). Living frame|work is a solution for the rapid urbanisation of highly dense populated areas. Erected on top of existing slums, it is a 3D steel ‘scaffolding- like’ grid, where container units and open platforms can be plugged into place with a simple crane. Just as “Dharavi is a city within a city”, Living frame|work is not a residential building but a piece of the city, with complete socio- economical dynamics happening in a complex curation of different typology spaces. Like Schuiten and Peeters’ “Fièvre d’ Urbicande”, Living frame|work creates the context that fosters social interactions, in order to support the local economy of residents, and revitalise socially deprived areas. Project leaders: Stephanie Akkaoui + Paul Hughes Team members: E. Amoretti, T. Bouzakhm, D. Mele, T. M. Toguchi, R. Pernas, R. Schultz

RE-SOCIALIZING Architecture and Sport in a Youth Center

DANIELA MELE RAFFAELLA PARINI

The project is a social architecture that fosters interactions between local people, especially young and childrens, through the value of sport. The urban development doesn’t always take care about human causes, and in some part of the cities, it generates several disadvantages. In this contest, the anthropic infrastructure has enhanced diff iculties for the growing of public spaces. The most affected are young people who don’t have their own safety and public space where they can meet each other, and amongst of them increases the rate of school dispersion. The thesis has the goal to develop a public space that could allow new social life around young, in a safety and comfortable way. This is the reason we think that a youth center can be a great resource for cities, both as a reference for people and for their needs and both as a way to improve the suburbs of our cities. The main character of the project was the sport and its educational importance, and the re-use of the existing structure made on A.Rossi and Braghieri’s project. Master Thesis: 110/110 with honors Supervisor: Arch. E. Faroldi, Sociologist D. Anzani

POINTS OF VIEW Atmospheres, 1000 Human environments

DANIELA MELE

How can we be so sure we are looking at the world through the right way? And how much this question can affect cities when it comes out from architects? Points of View... There is no an answer, anyway, I tried to recreate that way of thinking with the main character of this project: - The man: it’s me or either you, that look at this box - The window: the point of view we decide to look at the world - The mirror: our ref lection - A sentence: the illusion that what we decide to see is always the reality As architects, we need to f ind so many windows as possible, but always throughout the same mirror, that make us happy and able to shape better cities. Exhibition’s curator: Arch. G. Postiglione

3D+MODELING Bends, Vaults, Columns, Capitals, Sketches and Maquetes

DANIELA MELE

The following drafts represent both architecture and natural elements. They are shots of 3D modeling. The program I used for is Rhinoceros, thanks to I developed the f inal drawings with different effects: rendered, shaded or by pencil. The elements represented are shaped trough bends and based on spiral construction. In this chapter, I would like to show also some of my handcraft models and some sketches. Amongst of them, there are both f inal and study models.
