San Francisco House of Music

Master of Architecture Thesis Design Project AWR Competition Entry (2nd Place) YEAR : 2016 SCHOOL: Griffith University The proposed design is located deep in the heart of the GOLDEN GATE park, surrounded by trees and unique heritage. A Garden of sorts, the site was likened to a lady courted with a triad of suitors making their proposal to receive her approval.

With a key aim of merging the old and the new, the performance spaces are upgraded through the use of innovative materials and technological advances to control sound reverberation for certain music types. The recreation zones through a series of movement become the most significant space within the building slightly displacing the theatre as seen in traditional opera houses. This space acts as both circulation and relaxation where different age groups interact. Relaxation zones are further equipped with musical stands and headsets for occupants to experience what I call “SHARED MUSIC. IWON DIDUN 01

SPITSTOP Cruise Ship Terminal

Master of Architecture Design Project YEAR : 2015

SCHOOL: Griffith University

The brief proposes a cruise ship terminal for the city of Gold Coast. Given three options to choose from and redeveloping the master plan of The Spit, the offshore option was selected after careful analysis of existing conditions on the site.

The building positioned off-shore is embeded in the sea. A rectilinear type structure acts in opposition to the sea currents.

A spherical / oval shaped building reduces impact against the structure and allows easy flow of the currents

Redeveloping the spit will see more activities and development move towards the north end of the site. This development will ensure better network of roads, bicycle and footpaths and give new value to the site. The design of the terminal is derived from a spintop and the nature of its balance. This is reflected in the form of the building. With luxury and tourism as key strategies for development, the terminal guarantees a destination that is both unique and vital to the gold coast.

For balane within the sea, an underside is added. The aim is to have an underwater observatory for the terminal.

The two poles / caps of the sphere are then elongated to give it a unique form. At the top, a look out spot, below an underwater observatory with a base that enriches coral life

People concentrate at the following locations on the site; Doug park to the north and north west of the site. To the East is the beach and south of the site is Sea World.

The major points of attraction is the beach to the north of the site and sea world to the south.

The terminal positioned off shore will increase increase activity at the beach front becoming a tourist attraction site as well as improving the horizon of the sea. IWON DIDUN 01

STEAM School of Engineering

Master of Architecture Group design Project TEAM MEMBERS : David L.|Freddie F.|James S. YEAR : 2016 SCHOOL: Griffith University The STEAM Project is more than just an arrangement of rooms that fill spatial demands. In a rapidly urbanising campus. It is a catalyst for the discussion between the increase of in-fill development and three identified challenges present in the context of site use. URBAN DENSITY, COHESION AND PROXIMITY. Derived from these three challenges comes the key architectural vision for the building; a celebration of vertical space. This is to be delivered with three key principles in mind; ACTIVE CIRCULATION, SPATIAL HIERACHY and INTERACTION. My team and I created an organized workflow with David acting as team leader. Freddie worked on the sections and elevations, James on the site layout and I was tasked with designing the elevations and visuals and creating a detailed model from which required drawings were obtained. David put the project together.

WUSE TERRACES

Professional Work

PARTNERS : Design Logic Limited, Nigeria YEAR : 2016 LOCATION: Abuja, Nigeria The Client wanted a unique set of terrace houses to be located in Abuja. Design Logic contracted part of the design out to me. Together we decided on a conceptual scheme after which I created full sets for the project which included the initial working drawings and visuals of both interior and exterior spaces.

GLOW FESTIVAL PAVILION

Volunteer Work TEAM : Dr. Ruwan F.|Dr. Karine D.|Nikki F. Teresa B.|Maddy C.|Virtamo D. YEAR : 2016 LOCATION: GoldCoast, Aus Together with mentors and architecture students from the Department of Architecture, Griffith University, we designed and built a pavilion for the yearly “GLOW” festival held on the GoldCoast. The design by Ruwan F. was inspired by the concept of coral and was designed to remind people about the beauty and fragility of the oceans – an issue that has since become even more topical after severe bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef. The Pavilion celebrates the magical colours found in the ocean. We developed a modular approach for its construction, inspired by the coral’s unique organic patterns and systems. The Pavilion, which was almost four metres high, was made almost entirely of recycled cardboard and was lit up with LED lights IWON DIDUN 01

ABSTRACTIONS Walkway | Hexagons

Art Work YEAR : 2016 TIME: 2 hours 43 Minutes The two places I’ve studied have a huge margin on how they relate to space. One is constrained by it, so design options are limited, the other not so much and so designs easily become bogus. This disparity between the two have inspired this piece I term “Walkway”. A pathway that points me in some direction as I seek a balance between my circumstances. I look at space, scale, color and light. I start with a rough sketch on paper, then transfer to a modelling application. In the app, I begin to build upon my sketch, trying new things, testing what works and what doesn’t. I then choose a view when I chance upon something I like then continue to build. This goes for roughly 1 hour. Once done, I create a clay render or transfer to photoshop for painting. I build on textures, color and depth of the scene. An hour or two later, I’m done. The rule is to spend no more than 3 hours in total on a piece.
