Deployment Readiness Return & Reunion
SUPPORT CENTER
THE FLEET AND FAMILY
FLEET & FAMILY SUPPORT CENTER
Return and reunion can be just a trying time as deployment. Between family members and service members, the anxiousness of getting back to the way things were before deployment may take precedence or may be an expectation. How do we prepare for our partner’s return? A conversation is NEEDED before the service member comes back albeit by video, phone, email or postal mail. Ask the questions: “Are you ok with a party?” “Did you want to see your family (parents or extended family) right away?” “Would you want to plan a get-away?” “With or without the kids?” All of these may not be what you want to discuss and you may not like the answers, but it is a conversation needed to help ease the transition back into “family life.” Depending on where the service member has been deployed, a reintegration to family life may be more difficult to settle in. Fleet & Family Support Center has a Return & Reunion Brief that families may attend to get better ideas on how to better handle a service member returning to help them get back in the groove of family life. Let us help you and the whole family become one again.
